    Great points! Check out the Jones interview post match. Slot was willing to cede posession and passes in certain areas in order to win it back in the right areas. Although Chelsea had more shots in and around the box it was against a loaded defensive structure, it needed a worldie or mistake. Conversely area 14 was where all Liverpools danger came from.

      Youre right. From my pov, it was zone 11 that gave Chelsea a misleading possession, make them believing they can control the game, but haha, it was a setup

  • @siempra78
    @siempra78 2 дня назад +5

    I noticed "let them possess" was Slot's solution for a battle between the team that Conceding The Least Goals (Liverpool) Vs the team Creating The Most Chances (Chelsea). Chelsea didn't get at us, as some think, they were allowed to run themselves ragged whilst LFC packed the central areas. The fact that Chelsea only created one chance (nearly offside) where they were through on goal testifies to that.
    The big difference between Slot and Klopp is that Slot is prepared to adjust his tactics from opponent to opponent, but I would expect him to employ similar tactics against Real Madrid (another openly attacking team) next month. Klopp's Ljinders-inspired 'intensity' approach against Chelsea would have lost us that game.

    • @AllRedShow

      @@AllRedShow I think earlier Klopp would have beaten the Chelsea side, but I think Klopp carrying on into 2024 wouldn't. We can differ in opinion on that. Wow, really nuanced analysis. If you were to sum up in a sentence why Slot chose this particular strategy against Chelsea, what made him be fine with it? I mean you could say it was reactive not pro-active, right? That's the counter-intuitive thing about it. I mean, he's deffo got more tools in his locker than Klopp did and if your analysis is right, he will be quite a challenge for oppo to find him out. I agree he just wants to win and couldn't give a shit about the beauty contest. You're doing a great job, mate, providing really thoughtful angles to it all.

    • @HetAppelMoesje
      @HetAppelMoesje 2 дня назад +1

      If you defend as a unit, with a plan, you can definitely defend pro-actively. By this I mean you control where the opponent attacks.
      You saw it against United as well, we control where you play the ball and give you one option, which is to play into the middle of the park where we'll pounce you. This game was different, but Liverpool decided that Chelsea will attack from the flanks where we were comfortable not to give away real chances. Chelsea is quite transitional and wants space to attack into while Liverpool is also deadly on counter attacks (thanks Jürgen!). Liverpool denied Chelsea the space they wanted and made them play another game.

  • @71775926
    @71775926 2 дня назад +2

    Gonna disagree and say that you're conflating "being willing to cede possession" with "that's the plan". That MIGHT be the plan in response, but I don't think it was intended that Chelsea have the majority of the possession. Given the disgusting amount of passes that went astray and the constant turnovers, I don't think it was that "CLEAR" that the plan was to cede possession and hit them on the break. There's already been plenty of analysis covering Slot's tactics regarding baiting the opponent's press to open up space. It's BAITING the PRESS for space, not sitting back and letting the opponent possess and attack for space.
    We were at home, playing a team that right up till the almost the end of the season was distinctly mid-table. Chelsea have been in transition and upheaval for seasons. For them to come and impose their game plan on us was rather shambolic. And this is not a knock on Slot's tactics, it's knocking on the players who can't carry out Slot's preferred approach.
    I have no doubt Slot is already privately thinking of upgrades in several positions with players that can keep the ball better and pass better.
    Just because Slot is adept at controlling a game without possession and is willing to win that way does not mean this is his preferred approach. I think you've missed the mark here like Lawrence McKenna did.

    • @AllRedShow
      @AllRedShow  2 дня назад +1

      Fair enough mate. See your point and well said. I don’t think slot wants this to be his long term approach by any means but he’s will to do what it takes NOW to win where other managers might be ok with a down first year as they impose their will on the team. I agree with you that Slot will look for upgrades if players can’t adapt and play at top levels in his systems.
      It was a shocking performance at Chelsea to be honest and yet we won and our defense was incredible minus one tiny mistake. Up the refs and thanks for the comment mate!

    Sorry, but the 'plan was to let Chelsea have the ball' is bollocks. They had better possession because they closed us down well and our passing was so sloppy. Your theory also goes against everything that Slot has said about the importance of keeping possession within his system. We weren't set up to work as a primarily counter-attacking team either. That was clear as day by the players positioning.

    • @AllRedShow
      @AllRedShow  2 дня назад

      Our passing was shockingly bad all game. I couldn’t believe it. Szobo, Salah (except for his assist), Trent, Kelleher. Obviously they were doing that on purpose but the plan was to defend at all cost and let jones run riot. It worked. Up the reds.

      @@AllRedShow Jones even said post match though that Slot wants them to have the ball all the time. Hardly tallies with "the plan was to let Chelsea have the ball" does it. There is a marked difference between wanting the opposition to have possession and controlling where they have possession when they have it. We did the latter, but you are suggesting the former, which is not the case.

    • @AllRedShow
      @AllRedShow  2 дня назад

      True mate. You’re right. I was trying to explain away how awful we were in possession, saying that our wing backs didn’t support the attack and a lot of times we just tried to dink it up to Mo who wasn’t really excited about doing that all game. It was clear slot wanted to defend first.
