You read some awesome books this year man! I love Lies of L L, I love Wheel of Time, and Dune is one of my all time fav books!!! Dracula is on my tbr!!!
Sounds like we have similar tastes! I will probably doing a read along of Dracula with a few people in October of this year, so you should read it then with us!
Also, I think literally today Scott Lynch announced he finally finished the draft to his latest novel and he is releasing I think 3 standalones too!!! Can't wait!
@@NICKREADSFANTASY I really enjoy the entire Lies of LL series even though I think book1 is my fav still. I haven't read any Dune books beyond book1. I'm scared to keep going with Dune because it's a top 5 fav book of all time for me and I have heard mixed things about the following books!
Nice list. Probably no real surprises here for anyone who's been keeping up with your videos. I definitely have a couple of these that I want to get to at some point.
I talk about my favorites so often! I probably need to spend a little extra time on the ones just under my S tier category. The solid A’s that deserve attention. Maybe an idea for a future video!
@@NICKREADSFANTASY that could be cool. List for "hidden gems," "biggest surprises," or "underrated books" are always fun. Nothing wrong with gushing over your favorites though!
Loved the vid and the passion you bring toward the books!!! 100% agree that the Shadow Rising was a mind blowing awesome book in the Wheel of Time-it expanded the scope of the storytelling and the world building so much and took it in a whole new direction that I loved. I also really liked Dune when I read it before the movie came out, think it holds up very well next to more modern stuff, and I’m very intrigued to see where the story goes in the next books. Awesome vid!
Thank you! Your support means a ton! I am thinking about devoting another month this year to the Wheel of Time to see if I can knock out another 3-4 books in the series, as well as the next two Dune books :)
I am loving it! I can’t wait to finish it. I might devote another whole month to it again this year. Last year I did it by accident, this year I will try to do it with purpose lol
Yay, I'm glad you enjoyed DUNE! I read it for the first time this year as well. I loved it so much that I finished, and then either that day or a couple later, I started it over again. That has never happened to me before! I had meant to only go back to read a bit of the beginning to get clarity on those earlier parts now that I knew the full story. Before I realized it, I was way into it and figured might as well finish! This is why I'm a big fan of giving books a second chance. Maybe even a third chance. I had tried DUNE before. Not sure how old I was. Maybe teens/early 20s. All I remember was... sand. So. Much. Sand. And something about giant worms. I couldn't follow any of it. This time, I pushed through and it "clicked." I think the key is to not try to understand everything, right off the bat. Just go with it. Be an observer. Think of it like being dropped in a foreign country where the culture, language, customs, interactions - everything is completely different than what you're used to. At first, you're lost. But if you give it time, eventually, you start picking up on things. You catch a word here and there. You see the patterns of how people interact. You learn what is acceptable and not acceptable. Etc. That's what I enjoyed about it. It was truly another world. I don't know the background, so I don't know if he patterned it after desert cultures in the real world. I wouldn't be surprised if he did. It felt real.
Both your comments today are totally on point! When I finish the first 3 books I am looking forward to learning more about herberts influences and messaging in the book (I pick up on some, but miss a TON). I want my first pass to be just about enjoyment, then I can deep dive. I am looking forward to reading books two and three this year :)
@@NICKREADSFANTASY If you don't already know the channel, Quinn's Ideas, he's got tons of excellent DUNE content. I credit him with having me give it a 2nd chance. I wanted to watch those videos but I didn't want to be spoiled!
I need to try DRACULA again. I had tried to clear my mind of any expectations and the pop culture stuff that you can't avoid absorbing if you live in America. My mistake was not learning that it's written in letters/journal entries. That is not a favorite format of mine. Maybe if I'd known that, I wouldn't have been constantly distracted by the thought, "Okay, but when does the STORY start?" I was just expecting it to be something else. As I said, I'm a fan of giving books a 2nd or 3rd chance. I am open to trying it again sometime.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your willingness to give books a 2nd and 3rd chance! I have been considering this with Poppy War because of how much people love that book. I HATED IT! But praise of the people means a lot in my book. Also, your Dracula experience mirror my experience with so many books. Expectations of a book influences the experience. Maybe we can buddy read in October! :)
