Something that I REALLY appreciate with this show is that they never disclose the names of the child actors, so they can have private lives.
Right? I wish every show would do that....
Only a select few have come out with it, like the actress for Judo (I think it was partially because she's in other things, too).
Also, I think a good chunk of them are the kids of the crew!
Too bad that also means they lose power renegotiating contracts, cause they don't have any celebrity with the anonymity. Seems worth it though.

I love how the attributes that define "true dog" also define babies. Crawl on all fours, nonverbal, requires attention an obnoxious amount, unable to care for themselves, etc. Tiny humans are just puppies😂

Just for some context on "BBQ"... That is Bluey's extended family from Bandit's side of the family. Those two pups are her cousins Muffin and Socks who are 3 and 1 respectively. One warning... Muffin is the most chaotic pup in the entire show and delivers some great lines. Then we have Muffin and Sock's parents: Stripe, Bandit's younger brother, and Trixie, Stripe's wife.

aussie here! they were very much having sausages not hotdogs at the barbecue. sausages and hotdogs are distinctly separate here, and referring to a sausage in bread as a hotdog will get you a lot of weird looks
I really want a game show where “The Floor is Lava” and “Shadow-Lands” are part of the obstacle course. It would be so cool to see competitors go into a Labyrinth, and than the walls start to change, and statues talk to you with clues…You can tell I miss legends of the hidden temple.

I can confirm that Socks is a baby (around one year old), and the intended lore of the Bluey universe was that they start as dog-dogs and then become more human-like as they age. There is one very famous and popular episode though that doesn't follow the established rules.
YAY!!! So happy you are continuing this!! And you finally met Muffin! She is pure chaos. So, Muffin and Socks are Bluey & Bingo's cousins. They are also sisters, Muffin is approx 3 yrs old, kind of a spoiled toddler, and Socks is more of a baby. She walks on all fours and barks & bites for most of the first 2 seasons, but she does eventually start walking upright and talking. Can't wait for you guys to get to the Grannies episodes, Janet and Rita are amazing

Here in New Zealand as well as Australia, a hotdog is either a frankfurter inside a hotdog bun with mustard and tomato sauce, or a sausage that has been battered and deep fried, usually with a fish and chips order. A sausage to us is what you stick on a barbie, fry/cook in a pan on a stove top.

@@IceMetalPunk We also have Ketchup, but it's different to Tomato Sauce. Ketchup is the same as what's in America, thick and quite sugary. Tomato Sauce (the condiment) is a bit thinner than ketchup and has a bit more vinegar and tang to it, but still sugary. Tomato Sauce is the tradition. Ketchup is still definitely considered an American condiment and anyone putting ketchup on their sausage in public would get an earful about respecting Australian tradition and stop being Americanised (IMO)

(Australian speaking) Hot dogs and sausages are very different, fam. Hot dogs are those tubes of questionable pork meat, usually wrapped in a red skin, usually eaten in a long bun, and considered more of a junk food. I'd never put a hot dog on a bbq. Sausages are less questionable meat, can be beef, pork, chicken (anything you can grind up) and whilst still not very healthy is considered healthier than a hot dog. A Sausage Sizzle, usually a fundraising event where people cook sausages on a bbq and serve them in sliced bread with grilled onion and tomato sauce, is an Australian tradition. You can find them at any Bunnings (a national hardware store, Bluey calls it Hammerbarn) on a weekend or on Federal Election Day. Gotta get have a democracy sausage while you vote.
(Hearing "pepper" on Bluey makes me sad. Capsicum supremacy. But I guess you gotta give Americans some concessions).

There are a lot of Australian idioms and cultural touchstones that this show touches on. Cricket and footy are two of them, as well as the sacred barbecue. And yes, there is a world of difference between a hot dog and a traditional Aussie barbecue sausage. For example, they wouldn’t be caught dead selling fundraising hot dogs outside of Hammerbarn on a weekend 😂

When we were setting off on a three week trip to the UK a couple months ago I used the term 'tactical wee' before leaving for the airport. It is now a regular part of my sister's lexicon. We are both in our late 40s.
Watching "BBQ" I got to notice you are watching the Disney+ and BBC version, which censors some episodes... sometimes even altogether. It's easy to see because in the original version the girls say "capsicum" instead of "pepper". You have to be watchful, because Disney+ and BBC cut some scenes or change a few lines for finding them innapropriate, have imitable sequences or simply because of Australian vocabulary and expressions that may have complete different meanings on US. There's even an entire episode that has been banned from Disney+ and Disney Channel up until this day because... Well, you'll see if you ever get to watch it. I strongly suggest to start watching the original version instead.

My nine-year old was just horrified that I was watching Bluey, but when he realized it was Jay and Adam watching and they think it's great he went right in his room to watch it for the first time since 1st grade. He's starting to learn that little kid shows aren't just for little kids.

My son is 16 months old and he loves Bluey! He calls her "good girl" or "good girl dog dog" because they call her a good girl in the show a lot. And of course Bingo is still Bingo, but it sounds more like Biko 😂❤️
Muffin used to say "Caspicum" in the original, now they changed it to "Peppers", probably so kids aren't confused.
Socks is meant to be on the autism spectrum apparently. She represents a child whose development is a little bit different from other kids, this time shown through her seeming to take on more doggy traits and taking longer to take on the more anthro traits. Most of the kids in this show seem to be neurodivergent in some way. For example, there's a kid named Jacks who seems to have ADHD, and it is hinted at the Bingo and Bluey have either ADHD or autism too. Bluey even seems to go to a special needs school, as we hear her dad talk about it in the background once as if it is.
Socks is 1, not autistic. Jack is implied to have ADHD, but the school they go to is a Montessori school, not a specialist school. Montessori prioritises learning through independent or child-led play. Specialist schools also have more than one teacher because extra support is needed. Bluey and Bingo are not hinted to be neurodiverse, they're young kids and they act like it. The show does a good job of introducing and representing neurodiversity here and there but it's not the focus.
I think that they confirmed that when the dogs are really really young they act like dog dogs but once they hit like toddler age they start to act like human toddlers, so yes socks was acting like that because she’s so young.

For future reference, socks is intended to be a baby, but in other episodes other babies are shown to be like human babies, and the creator has come out and said that they just fucking forgot they had established the puppy-baby thing before.

When I was a kid (7-ish?) I was the one in charge of lawn mowing my grandparents' garden. Don't worry, it wasn't an electric one, it was a manual one. After that getting to play with the sprinkler was the best! And I was very much a girl who preferred fantasy play. If realistic it was things like playing circus, never something like mom or hospital. Tho I did have a kids post office.

Funnily enough, there is another instance of Bluey appearing in another character’s dream (much later on, mid season 2), as well as one character appearing in another character’s waking vision of sorts. Realistically it’s all symbolic, but it’s fun to think that dream sharing exists in Bluey.
So I actually lived Adam’s parents nightmare. 2 years old and my Dad was mowing the lawn on a riding mower. I got away from my mom and ran out in front of him, and fell down. He jumped off and grabbed the mower and yanked the front up, but the angle I fell the blade still tore up my right hip and cracked open my head. Still got a scar above my right eye and a piece missing above my hip 33 years later. It really was something that could happen to kids.
In Australia, hot dogs have to be in a long bun and typically they are those red franfurts or they could be German sausages, but in long buns. Whereas a normal sausage, like you might cook in a BBQ, is not a hot dog sausage and you wouldn't eat it with a long bun, typically just in a slice of bread.

Alot of the dog names are breed specific common names. Chilli, bandit, bluey and bingo are all very popular cattle dog (heeler) names, coco is very popular for poodle or oodle breeds, pom pom for pommeranians etc

My take on the whole Socks thing is that she's "developing differently" and hinting at neuro-divergence since it's shown that the kids as infants can develop normally and take their first steps on two legs.
