It's the reason I wanted a NES as a kid more than any other Nintendo game, Super Mario interested me as I played the arcade version once and in a few store booths, But Turtles was the game that made me buy a NES. Albeit second hand from a kid at school.
I was one of later kids from my group of friends to get an NES, they all got the action sets. I walked past my local Dixons on a Saturday morning and saw this in the window and had to have it. With my birthday being the following month, I begged my Mum into submission. Once the SNES was on the horizon I sold this on down the road without giving it a second thought. Had to be done, but man I wish I still had it.
America missed out on a cool bundle. Its awesome that it helped Nintendo sales in Europe. I find it weird that Mattel had something to do with it. Nice review Ed!
I remember the nes games being mind-blowingly expensive at the time in the U.K. I got the game for my Amstrad CPC464 computer that year for £10. Never have seen a real life nes to this day. The world being less connected back then ensured that the various regions had significant differences. Nintendo didn’t register in the national consciousness until Streetfighter 2 arrived bundled with the SNES.
We had that set in 1991 and it came with a boxed copy included. I remember my dad breaking down the box Christmas morning and feeling "that ain't right" lol
Back in the Autumn of 1990 in London, I remember seeing stacks of the TMNT pack without the TMNT sleeve. Instead of the sleeve, it was the standard SMB Control Deck box with a TMNT game sticker positioned over the photograph of the SMB game.
Wish we wldve had that bundle in USA but still remember when we got our first NES, my dad surprised us n brought it home one day n it was bundle w Mike Tyson punch out n remember was little upset cause it only one player game, but didn't last long cause we had a nes n loves going to place called video connection n renting games n movie n getting McDonald's or Wendy's every Friday, that was like our family night on Friday after School the weekend coming up n watching a new release lol n then staying up all night playing whatever.game we rented, ahh the good ole days, sucks getting old
the TMHT set def. came with a CIB copy of the game IN the box. the Smurfs set, seems really rare, only seen a few of them offered, and most prices were around the 1500 euros.
Wow I had no idea this even existed! That's awesome as hell! Even though I'm from the United States I would love to have one of those. I'm sure it's thousands of dollars though.
The NES had another problem in the UK aside from being marketed atrociously: it’s games were 20 times the price of the average home computer game. Now I think we can all agree NES games look and play a lot better than the average £1.99 game for the Spectrum, for example, but are they 20 times better? Most parents decided they weren’t.
Indeed some of those games were really expensive got the belgian franks prices on some of them it was like 4-5000 bef. Which is like what a new game costs now 60€!
Didn’t have a NES as a kid as when they first came out they were very expensive (ROB the robot set), most people I knew got them a few years later. However by that time I got a Atari ST and the Amiga was out so it made the NES look like a naff kids toy graphically, I don’t think the same thing happened in the USA where the NES was more popular.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut It wasnt as good as the Amiga 500 but that was £100 more and my family couldnt afford that. Mostly the same games as Amiga 500 though with only mildly weaker ports
Hello that’s amazing sleeve for the control deck! I’m a nes collector been doing collecting since the 80’s I’m making a site on Facebook where I scan everything in to preserve the boxes and manuals I already have a scan of a control deck, would you be interested in scanning the turtles sleeve to add to the preservation of nes stuff?
I picked this bundle up by chance in a cash converters in January for just 150pound its in fantastic condition couldnt believe my luck..... But watch out there is some fake sleeves being made in france so be careful cardboard ages so check.. My was legit so happy days.
I still find it funny how the BBC censored the TMNT for being "too violent" yet another animated kids show airing around the same time called "The animals of farthing woods" had blood and a few pretty nasty character death's,way worse than anything in the 87 tmnt show. Then again that's BBC for you, hypocritical and ass backwards.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut in America the ntsc version is it 60 frames per second so it's a lot faster ( or rather because it's the pal version at 50 fps it slower what I'm used to) ( just to be clear I love this game very much. Just got my copy signed by Kevin Eastman which is pretty sweet)
The bundle of the ninja turtles is so cool I have the game on nes but I didn't check out the game play of it I'm gonna have to when my little kid brother goes back to school and also I have two more video games of the ninja turtles one on ps2 and one on nintendo ds or nintendo 3ds I need to get more tmnt video games for my collection especially the arcade game of the ninja turtles man I love being a turtles fan so much #SHELLSHOCKED 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐀🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
If they did this today, it would be all green or something with some kind of fake turtle shell. I hated the first Turtles game. Just could not get into it, the second one was obviously amazing.

Tmnt did look so good and totally worked and was representative of the cartoon and toys 🤓🤘

Great info. I never knew any of this. Thanks Ed!
This bundle was the only time I ever knew anyone with a NES. A friend got this bundle. I got a master system.
Yes!!! I’ve seen one but never picked it up! One day I would love to have this.
I guess its harder to find i. The usa 🤓
Aren't we all just human sleeves... put over our miserable little bodies to try and suppress this depression we call life?
I think the lead character in Texas Chain Saw massacre had the same view on life 😅
Congratulation to the NES Bundle... 💪 and thx for showing 🐢🐢🐢🐢💪
Thanks buddy 🤠
My two favorite things combined lol. Definitely need one. Had no idea that the box was just a sleeve. Great informative video as always Ed!

As somebody from the UK,I'd love to own one of these!! Bundeling the NES with TMNT or TMHT as it eas called here! 😹👍
Hero ninja turtles 🤣 so confusing

That's very cool, thanks for sharing! I wish we would have gotten neat sleeves like that here in the states.
It is a really cool bundle indeed, I personally find it one of the coolest 'console/game' bundles of all time
Agreed 🤘
Wow your box is in real good condition not bad 👌🏼didn’t even know it existed!
Thanks buddy 🤠
Ed my dude, your videos just keep getting better and better. Rock on 🤘
Thanks buddy 🤓👌
Interesting...🤔...it's neat to see that way back then they were doing special game consoles bundle deals and whatnot...👌🏼💯✔
Indeed 🤓🤘 thanks buddy

Got this bundle with both the first and 2nd TMNT games for christmas when I was a kid. Still got the console but wish I had kept the box.
Great video.....What an awesome piece to have so cool.
Thanks buddy 🤓
A great console & 8K subscribers! Awesome. Congratz. I love your history videos

Cool Aussie ad.
Loved it had to put it in there 🤩
Bro I fucking had that when I was a kid... long gone now
One of my prime pieces of the collection
Aw yeaaah 😍
I wish America would have gotten this. Very cool box.
Yeah so colorful😍🎉
I been wanting to play the old school tmnt games latley!
They’re awesome 🤩
I almost just want to get the 1 up cabinet

Ed's Retro Geek Out It’s horrifying when you think about it. Back in the NES era, £60 was worth a lot more than it is now!
Wow that was awesome games
Nice. A fan must have.
Im a fan 😍
Turtle II bundle would have been amazing. An actual box, not just a sleeve.
I’d buy that! 🤩

Wish they did a box version and not a sleeve. It would of been more awesome if the styrofoam was green!
They just made the easiest cost effective choice to rebrand these 😅 i kinda wanted to see a special edition console!
Loved the commercial for it haaha
So good 🤣 such dry humor in that commercial

Over $200 for a sleeve? It's a turd party alright!
Had this!
I knew I was getting it and had to listen to my brother ‘testing it out’ for about a week before. Torture for a ten year old

That's a bit of an urban legend, the BBC rebranded TMNT as they believed Ninjitsu and nunchucks were illegal in the UK.
As an Australian that commercial made me cringe so hard.
🤣
Picked a mint one for 180 pound last year
Awesome 🤓 what’s ur favorite games for the nes?
@@EdsRetroGeekOut TMHT ,DD2 batman,
Mario 1and 3 ,burai fighter ,Megaman 2 the list is endless.
"Ninja was a forbidden word in the UK"
Then why does the announcer in the commercial say it?
The commercial is australian
that pal version... sounds so strange as a NA
🤔 how do you mean?

It’s pretty true to the cartoon so a very well representation of tmnt 🤓👌
hate to say it but thats not a complete UK set (if it is supposed to be a uk set)
