- Whoa! Take a look at these stunning Power BI example reports built for the April 2021 BI Elite Power BI Contest. In this competition, participants connected to a live SQL database containing the BI Elite RUclips channel data and built their best report. Well, i have to say that every reports are giving me a lot of ideas to try on!! Had to say thaat i enjoyed watching the 2nd one with the tabs.

I've been using power BI for almost 3 weeks now and I have very quickly fallen in love with it. Seeing reports like these has deepened my interest in truly learning this software. This is pure art
I'm new to Power BI, it's amazing to see what can be done with it and the creativity of some users to really push it to it's limits and beyond where I thought it could go. There are some truly inspirational ideas which I hope to borrow :)

To be 100% honest, I was not expecting to make it to the top 3. It's the very first time I engage in this type of contest, especially when I haven't been using Power BI for too long! It came as an awesome surprise to me. And for sure it will inspire me to get even better at it :)

Looking at that first one made me feel like a complete amature, it is honestly gorgeous. I just wonder how much of it is fully dynamic. That's where the money is.

for sales reports to be fed directly from accounting books and some other sources would you go with Power Bi or Excel VBA?

Great video and examples! Is it possible to get pbix files? I'd like to find out how Vinicius was able to change the colour of a selected slicer.
The first one is my favorite. The other two hurt my eyes with the dark background. I think the first one also did a good job of making sure the charts had value for the user - whole reason we use data

@@BIElite Thanks. Another good challenge might be a "one tab" challenge. See how much insight could be given in just one tab. I've also been looking for creative uses with bookmarks, drill-throughs, and buttons recently

Would love to be able to get the pbix files for the winners. Great little tricks each is employing. Curious how each is handling the layering/button functionality. Seems like #1 and #2 actually made their own photoshopped images.
You're very right. The 1st report author has confirmed that the background was made via photoshop, reducing the number of visual elements by a lot!
Its been a month, are you planning to cover these dashboards in your tutorials or are you gonna share the pbix file? I would like to see how the filter pane was customized and those KPIs along with trend charts on the right-hand side of the dashboard.

For the first report, the one with the really sleek slicer pane, I’ve been mulling over for several days now how the author managed to make the slicer pane disappear by simply clicking anywhere outside of it. As the narrator said, it’s very much like a website.
I think I’ve finally figured it out! The author made a dark gray, semi-transparent, page-sized button to go behind the slicer pane. That way, anywhere that you click outside the slicer pane, you are clicking the page-sized button and returning to the report’s visuals layer.
Basically action buttons mixed with bookmarks. I use a similar technique myself. Ingenious.
yes it's quite simple. you are right, just create a blank page sized button with transparency that has a bookmark action. and make sure this button is part of the "filter open" "filter close" selection group
Very impressed with Vinícius submission. The report is very pleasing to look at, intuitive to navigate, and all with all keeps the peace.

I think that was done with Photoshop but I'm not 100% sure.

Anyone know how Vinicius added those shapes on the left of the screen and the far right?
Vinisius explained that he used photoshop. It’s part of the background image 😊

Really insightful love the slicer panel. Very clean
Incase anyone wonders about how the slicer panel was done it looks like he used a custom filter (chiclet) and used a button behind it although that's just what it looks like to me I've done something similar but for the back button I used the windows ; to get a red x to close the panel but prefer this by far! Great work

Book marks and actions buttons I believe thats all it is, but with lots and lots of buttons and layers and carefully thought out bookmarks. I suspect he made the entire BG a button as well to allow you to exit via clicking on the bg.
Please share the estimated time of development against some measure of the content created ... want to understand the presumably peak industry level productivity !

On report 1, Those spark lines are dymanic or snapshots? Also are those shapes photoshoped and brought in as imagines? I know how to make ovals/round edge rectangles but not that shape...

You cannot. These kinds of videos are usually intended as inspiration (and if you like as curriculum vitae or marketing) and unfortunately not as educational material. Detailed instructions are missing and a download of the pbix is not supported at all. Fortunately, other videos are more suitable for this.
