Hey! Thanks for this video it is helpful as I am trying to implement your template into my productions / mixing. A couple questions, do you think about all of the gain staging steps while you are in the idea creation stage? I am trying to figure out a way to keep in the flow but also not have my track be a mess so I can kind of mix as I go.
also do you try to leave the track volume of your bus groups untouched, and shoot for the -7 db on the master before adding plugins? I am working on a mix with your template and the levels are loud going into the master, wondering if it makes a difference if I just drag all the groups and stems down for gain staging, or if its better to bring down all the individual sounds and keep the bus groups hitting at the same level . Posted this on your patreon as well if its easier to respond there.

I tend to keep all vol faders at 0 and use a utility plugin to bring down to around -6db

Just set your volume levels in mono so your happy with the mix, then make sure them volumes stay the same no matter what plugins you add in the chain. For example if you add a saturation plugin to make the sound warmer, you will likely increase in volume, so make sure to turn the output gain down on that plugin so it stays where you set it initially. That’s gain staging peeps. Don’t over complicate it. 😊

Cheers Dilby, love these topics and your channel.
Been super helpful for me, ive been obsessed with gain staging since watching your other vidz.
I quite often have to go back and adjust staging if im not being methodical 🙂
As I feel its really important to have the project near club ready before any mastering, thanks again!

Why not keep all audio tracks db and master at 0db, and manage individual tracks loudness by adjusting the sample gain or using utility across multiple tracks to adjust volume?

adding 35db to a delay is extreme. Why not normalise the original sound sample to say -15db?

    Video review:
DILBY, I'm going to have to rewatch this video.
At first pass between the discombobulated formatting of your presentation and the bad editing, you make this video very confusing and incomplete.
Very unclear. Your examples very poor.
