the entire musical is so beautiful. only a stone will not feel the emotions overflowing. great job to all actors and actresses who performed in this musical.
This is the penultimate piece of this whole thing IMO. My voice teacher assigned this to me to learn so i listened to the rest of it and was a little disappointed because I felt the musicality and theme was better in this than the rest of the show.

Role of a lifetime is all about internalized homophobia and how to overcome it and the battles gay/trans people fight on a day to day basis. Michael in the bathroom is about a sad dude griping because his friend called him a loser and left him behind.

hey, as long as your voice range is wide you can sing it. right now i play jason in a small production of bare. i am a female and so is my castmate who plays peter and she and i can hit all of the low notes and even lower (and belt them, ayy!). i'm gay myself, but chemistry isn't formed from sexual tension, as long as you know how it feels to love someone it's pretty easy to understand how to sing these songs with the right emotion. i can barely sing any female roles, so my range goes pretty low but if you try i'm sure it'll be fine lmao. just sing girl!

The fact that Eliza only has 3 words in this song and everytime she says them it hits me harder everytime and the more i mature the more i realise the genuine pain she felt.
I love this song, but one thing I loved about the musical version of this is that they had Jason sing it instead of Peter. I just felt it was more powerful that way.
but much more emotional to be sung by peter he knows his gender wheras jason is confused so peter then becomes insecure about where he stands with jason.... but none the less it almost brings me to tears every time i hear it...... and the line from 4th verse " So confused because I feel complete with him." is so warm!!
