It’s interesting to me how the characteristics that she uses to describe what makes someone a great director are the same characteristics that I find in myself. Not to say it in a coincident way, but as an Indigenous-Chicano theatre maker often times I have to make my own space to produce the art that I want to create. Because as an artist of color I know that white institutions are not going to give it to me without a fight. Even as an undergrad I had to go beyond my theatre department to learn about Chicano/Latinx Theatre. I recently submitted my application, and if all goes well I’ll be starting at Yale in the fall of ‘23🙏🏽
