It’s always felt sad to me. It feels like an ode to old gangsters who wanted to be big fish but never got the respect. Al Pacino’s character is desperate to be bigger than he is and it’s pathetic. Pacino plays it brilliantly.
Very good acting by both co-stars. Great story, especially in depicting how both characters’ career choices devastated the very families they were trying to build & support. Touching film.
I think they always play broke even if they have millions. People who come from meager beginnings usually always play broke or genuinely don't realize they are good financially and even with millions they realize it can all go wrong in an instant.
