I've seen apologists pick and choose verses from different versions to back up their excuses, while ignoring all the stuff that's too inconvenient to explain away. If it's too obvious to explain away, like slavery, they pretend that slavery isn't really slavery, but merely a temporary inconvenience during which you can learn some new skills.
Translation is never an exact science. Different translators will make different choices when trying to translate the intent of the author, as a word for word literal translation would sound like nonsense. I assume that you are an American who only speaks one language, which is why you don’t understand how translation works.
Growing up in a very christian family I was always perplexed by how Christians can twist their scriptures to suit any world view, rationalize every contradiction and every horrific law, and randomly be like "God spoke to me so clearly during my devotions and I know that I have to do such and forth" only for such and forth to fail and they refuse to acknowledge it when it does.
I have worked in hospitals and have seen devout christians, one was even a catholic nun. Where somebodies child sadly passed away. These devout christians would whisper, they must have done something horrid. For god to punish them this way.
@@appresley4071 It's sad but true. Christians will say that they don't judge other people, but they do. If I had a nickel for every time I have seen a church member or even my family members look at something bad happen to another person and then say something like "Well they must have not had enough faith" or "I guess that they weren't living the right way" I would probably be a millionaire.

She said "I was lost and confused in my bible studies?!" I appreciate her honesty on that point and thought...a perfect God would/should not allow anyone to be lost and confused if the goals is to have "relationship" with him. That statement alone should give folks reason to pause and think. In the old days, I would blamed myself for not "getting" it. Whew, glad to be on the other side!
I might be wrong but I got a sort of red flag that she was questioning things and studying for specific answers, instead of just going off what was there. When I wanted to know more about the Bible, I simply Googled a reading plan based on chronology (because the Bible is set up based on genre). This way, the events would be more aligned. I checked off everything as I read it. (The Bible became a lot less valid to me when I did this because it then seemed more finite and less convoluted- not something broad and full of mysteries that could be held over me, if that makes sense.)
But don't you see, we're confused because of original sin and we all fall short. God has to let us work through our confusion with his gentle guidance because we have the free will to choose him and I think that's beautiful /S
Kind of like the Christian book The Jesus I Never Knew. A book that could not exist, or wouldn't be needed, if God was real and truly was in relationship with his people.

As a believer long ago, I read the bible in its entirety twice, and I also read chapters and isolated verses throughout my early life. But, I am blown away now by how much I overlooked, or misunderstood. Your presentations are so full of historical references, and nuances that I completely missed, that I feel like I never read any of the bible at all. What an education I am getting! And the craziest part is: you're making it FUN. It's a roller coaster, but sometimes I get irritated at how manipulated I was back then, how utterly clueless and willing to be a victim,.. and moments later I laugh at the folly of it all as you rhetorically poke your listeners in the ribs with a subtle joke about the content. But always I am intrigued and learning. I quit believing for a few very well founded reasons. But now, I have a million reasons! I can respond intelligently if challenged, and provide chapter and verse that supports my non-alliance with the god of the bible. I wish that your brilliant analyses of scripture had been available to me then. But, it's ok, I survived. And I have them now.
I've beeen trying to compose this exact sentiment for a reply to Brandon since I found MINDSHIFT. Well said! And another great video Brandon. Thanks to you both, 8Journey8 and Brandon.
I love this! Thanks so much for taking the time to say so. Thrilled to be of help and how i share your feelings of frustration at how it was all kept from us and manipulated us for so long!
It all comes back to indoctrination. I was a Catholic for 33 years. Some of my earliest memories as a kid were church every Sunday. Then CCD and CYC on Wednesdays. First communion. Confirmation. Etc. They had to drill it into your head or it simply will not stick. Keep in mind, I was born in 1987 so there was no social media or RUclips outlet for any kind of other voice. Back in the day, it was relatively straightforward to gate keep entire generations into one mindset. Why do you think your channel has so many members of the Christian excuse patrol descending in your comments every video. Because they know that in this era of ease of information, it astronomically harder to gate keep youth now. Can you imagine if you had to wait until your kid turned 18 before you even discussed your religion with your kids? Me thinks the vast majority of parents in the country would be VERY worried about the odds of their kids picking their flavor of religion today.
Of course, how feasibly could one practice a religion with young kids if Church/Synagogue/Temple attendance are a huge component of one's faith? Who watches the kids? I think a lot of churches would fall apart or be regulated to meeting in people's homes again while a couple of appointed people watch the kids in a different space.
ALL reLIEgions are about brainwashing indoctrinating hypnotizing... the kids. They are very receptive because they are in Theta, then Alpha till hormones hit. They will swallow everything shoveled by "authority" until they start CRITICALLY THINKING. That's why reLIEgions do everything they can to discouraged CRITICALLY THINKING SKILLS 🤔
When I first zoomed out, I discovered the countless numbers of denominations all claiming to be the correct version of Christianity despite what seemed to me to be inconsequential minute differences. That there are countless ways to interpret a Bible that has undergone so many revisions and translations. It planted the first seeds of doubt for me.
Have you ever watched a Christian sect form in real time? It's very telling. Literally just a power grab by a corrupt minister who needed a shelter for his crimes.
Brandon on that early morning grind, its always good to see! Being an atheist in a Christian family is extremely weird, as its easy to see how to zoom out, how to see why Christianity exists but also how clearly man-made it is, but hard to explain to those around me, and even try to converse with them without multiple excuses being made for the Bible or the religion as a whole! Great vid as always
It's funny. Well if Christianity is man-made then so are the rules we make for ourselves that we don't even uphold. Humans fucking blow plain and simple.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer; part of my treatment involved chemotherapy using paciltaxel, made from the Pacific Yew tree So, God must have created the Pacific Yew so that it could be used as a chemotherapeutic agent? The side effects of paciltaxel include: nausea, vomiting, bone and muscle aches, hair loss, tachycardia, neuropathy, blue-black nails, mouth sores, among others - seems an omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient Being could have created something that didn’t cause such side effects - OR, HOW ABOUT A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER????? Humans, being pattern-seeking beings, look to make sense of the world around them by finding (or creating) patterns. The laws regarding leaving some crops for the Israelite poor, as Brandon points out, didn’t provide for protection - Naomi says that Ruth should glean in Boaz’s fields where his servants could keep an eye on her, “lest others fall upon her in another field” Ruth 2:22 Thanks, Brandon!
Wow, I never really saw the obvious problem in Ruth 2:22, I just always skimmed over that. And to think, that in this Israelite Torah culture that a woman had to worry about being harmed / raped, is an eye opener, or at the very least be allowed to scrounge for leftovers so she and her family would not starve to death. And I also never thought that the uncovering of feet was just a euphemism for sex. But then again, I was raised in a very fundamentalist environment. And when I've studied the Tanakh (aka: the Septuagint) from the Jewish Orthodox perspective, the rabbis that I've listened to, and read, have never said that the uncovering of feet in this story meant Ruth initiated sex with Boaz. I started walking away from all religion about 9 years ago, boxed up my library of religious books (> 300), and haven't wanted to study the bible again until stumbling across this channel, and a few others like it. Now, I want to start reading / studying more carefully so that leaving all religion will even seem far more logical, than my original reasons for deconstructing my faith a few years ago.

Whenever I "zoom out" it leaves me wondering why 14 billion or so years in the past, "God" would "create" a universe of virtually infinite magnitude filled with trillions of planets scattered through billions of galaxies and yet still care deeply about the fate of one tribe of people in one region of one planet located in a remote corner at the end of the spiral arm of one galaxy several thousand years ago...
This God never claimed to create the world 14 billion years ago and have trillions of planets. He said he made a flat earth with a dome with lights in the firmament.
I never understood people who say this. Like it's some big epiphany. The rest of the stars are just a background painting for the real deal. The real action happens on earth. The world you live in is a combination of a story/play and an open world video game. They make "backgrounds" for those too. God's just a good bit better at the backgrounds he makes for his video game.
Sigh. It's not an epiphany. It's an attempt to describe the immense scale of the universe we occupy & point out how silly it is that a god who supposedly created everything at such a scale is so hyperfocused on one specific region of land on 1 specific planet. The fact god cares about real estate & has a fixation on foreskins tips the scale more towards a god created by man, who also cares about conquest & land & controlling others.

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” I like asking believers how they can possibly think their faith is respectable, given Jesus said faith is worthless, since you can't expect obedience when ordering mountains to move? I zoomed so far out that I saw the truth. That it was one human book of many. It has a place where it fits into reality, but it wasn't the core of reality, rather one piece of many.
I suspect this is what happened to her- she wasn't getting the answers she wanted and instead of deconstructing, she forced her own connections to fit. There are far simpler ways to study the Bible (in my case, going off of chronology) than what is basically pinning strands of yarn to random verses like a serial (k)iller.
@@MindShift-Brandon So many people don't want truth. Many people don't want to grow all the way up and be responsible. They want to hand it all to someone else or somewhere else and hope it all works out. It's really difficult examining our conditioning/programming and doing the necessary deconstruction. It can be brutal and painful but this inner work is the most important thing we can do.
I have never seen in the Bible why the Israelites were the chosen people? What makes them so special? Why didn’t God realize by making them so special he was creating a situation where they would be hated by the “rejected” people?
@EdFranklin-qv1bf How could they act as a "light to all nations" if God already knew they'd be rejected? Doesn't exactly sound like a very sensible plan.
@EdFranklin-qv1bf So - in what way were they a light? When they had to ransom themselves every census. And also later, got to enjoy bequeathable slaves, as basically property? Also - it seems the message varies, a lot. I think Romans 8:30, and 9:21 - are integral to it, maybe, though.
To me, "zooming out" means "considering the history going on as the books were being written and when they were compiled as well as what was done with them since." And speaking for myself, once I did that and saw what that history consisted of, let's just say that it is no surprise that most Christians do not "zoom out." And I say "most Christians" because those that do rarely, if ever, remain Christian after doing so, especially if they "zoom out" more than once.

Been waiting for the video today!! Thank you Brandon. Also, any material you could point me towards about the 'inbuilt age' argument for the Earth's age. I'm sure you've come across it but in summary it states that God created the universe with inbuilt like he did Adam, who for example would still be a fully grown man in his 30s or whatever yet he's A DAY old, if you were to check him. @@MindShift-Brandon Yh, I've had a look around and can't find anything particularly addressing it. What's funny is that some Christians don't even agree with it lol.(Surprise surprise 😂) But that's a point towards the right direction on how to look at it. It's honestly just so freeing going through this process, you've made a couple vids on nihilism but I'm finding it the complete opposite as there's so much beauty in the world to learn, do, explore without this limiting belief. Jesus said the truth sets free 😂 and the irony is that I've found the most freedom away from the faith . I'm still closeted to my family though.lol
You can of course assume an all-powerful God can do whatever he wants. However the question why he would do it is still valid. With Adam it makes sense as part of the narrative to create him as a grown-up because his supposed role requires a minimum of physical and cognitive abilities. This does not apply however to an earth that has remains of animals buried in the ground which never lived, and that shows signs of erosion and other geological activity that never happened. It gets worse with the universe because this whole idea assumes light was created in transit to show events like star formation or supernovae which never happened. Basically an endless number of mirages purposefully created to depict events that never were, and all of this would be entirely irrelevant to most generations until we had the means to study these events only within the last 100 or such years. If that was really what the Christian God did, then it's one huge deception directly performed at the point of creation (so don't blame Satan or original sin please) that makes the whole creation story look impossible. Not that this isn't in line with other malicious acts of the OT God, but hardly compatible with the character Christians normally claim he has.
Great video Brandon. Amazing how there’s only so far Christian will go with certain things in the Bible. Just far enough to try and prove their points.
"You need to zoom out" While I also agree that people should be able to see the big picture, this woman has obviously already missed the big picture by taking two completely different books and trying to connect invisible dots to make herself feel better about her faith. Yes, the Old Testament was *obviously* written as a pretext to Christ. God was a complete monster, and an asshole, to various people groups just so he could come down later and say "kek just a product of the times fam shit's different now" because that's what a perfect, all-knowing God would do. "I got lost in my bible studies until I did this one thing" That's odd. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing you'd need to "study the bible" would be a firm grip of whatever language you're reading it in. After all, this book was authored by a perfect being who knows everything. He should know how to be clear and concise not only to the local culture but also future ones, right? Oops, didn't mean to unravel the narrative. Says a lot when one of God's commandments is "don't kill each other" when he's genociding a fucking planet in the same book and then magic-hand-waves several millions of ecosystems back into place because fucking reasons, I guess. Also the slavery but we can apologetics that away with "Just turn your brain off".
I guess I zoomed out too much, up to the point where I realized how many other cultures and active religions exist today that make christianity look like just another one that happened to be popular where I live. If the afterlife depends on "believing" in "Jesus and god", good luck to any christian in choosing the correct version of them between the hundreds of denominations that portray them and what they expect from you so differently.
Thanks again! I like hearing stories that show people at least allowing others to survive. We have come a long way, and there is still so far to go, but we are heading in the right direction for the most part. As for the religious aspect, it seems as though these people would have come out much worse if they had followed their religion to the letter. Ironic!!
Great Tuesday Takedown! I learned things about this that I did not know, and things I did know clarified. Christians like to defend this by saying God can use anyone he wants (which included gentiles) to have his "plan" come to fruition. That's a rather cheap out.
Quick question: is gleaning the fields similar to dumpster-diving or scavenging? Obviously, gleaning sounds nicer, especially for modern day non-farmers. How would people react though to the law/accommodation if it was called scavaging or scrounging for scraps? Doesnt sound so kind and noble, especially for the widows and orphans.
The Bible continually pulls the "women and orphans" card but shows no real advances in establishing services such as women's homes or orphanages. This could sort-of-kind-of-ish be explained in nomadic societies but the people often lived in major cities.
My understanding is that yes, gleaning the fields is similar to scavenging. The gleaners get what the harvesters missed; stuff that's on the ground, stuff that was maybe too small to harvest. In my area there are people who glean orchards for food banks, what they get is the leftovers. I think Brandon is rarely wrong on facts, but the idea that gleaners are "unpaid labor" strikes me as inaccurate. Gleaners are gatherers of the leftovers, the scraps, the stuff that would have been left behind. Farm or orchard owners would never pay for that, it would just get plowed in and/or left to rot.
Hey Brandon, have you ever watched the Esoterica channel? There is a cool video where the host examines/dissects the origins of this Yahweh deity. I believe the video is titled Who Is Yahweh? I thought it was interesting. Keep up the good work!
There's communities of widowed 60-year-old women in Indonesia who collect rust scraps for 20 cents a day today in the ocean water without PPE. Gleaning seems pretty damn objectively generous given the time period.
I'm not sure she understands what gleaning entails. It's picking up the grain that has fallen to the ground during the harvest, the crumb after the feast. Backbreaking gruelling work to get some scraps. How very generous of God to allow them to be able to stave off starvation in this manner.
@pencilpauli9442 I wonder if those crumbs/scraps tie into Jesus and the woman at the well, with her telling him that even dogs eat pieces of food/crumbs that fall off the tables.
@MindShift I'd just like to point out that the state of affairs in the story of Ruth, where a woman has to prostitute herself, possibly nonconsensually, just in order to survive, and where she is treated as less than others due to her sex, her place of origin, and her not being a virgin, is not an acceptable situation in any society at any time. This being an old society does not make things any different. Please be better than that, Brandon.
My first clue was learning greek. The origin of the New Testament. Saying very different things than the English translations. Not only that. The split of orthodox and catholicism. Which further split. I thought under Jesus they are united 🤔.
I'm on my third read-through of the Bible this year, my first in at least 20 years. I had a similar reaction to Ruth, that it was a respite from the relentless bloodshed and divinely ordained atrocities surrounding it. And yet even this story was problematic, for the reasons you cited. Even when I was a kid, I couldn't take these stories at literal face value. I was always asking why. Why a God of love is so hateful and vengeful. Why he required a human sacrifice before he could forgive people for doing what he always knew they'd do. Why he manipulates situations to create his desired outcomes if we're supposed to have free will. Why there are so many contradictions that believers gloss over or rationalize away. Why the omni-God itself is so internally contradictory. And on and on. People like Faith are never able to take their religious blinders off. Me, I've never been able to put them on. I know you don't want people to comment on her in particular, but I just have to say I've seen her channel, and there's just something off about her. The way she speaks a mile a minute and never takes a breath, with such an overbearing intensity. And that Bible. It just screams OCD and a need for micromanaging control. There's some kind of psychological case study there waiting to be uncovered. Also, considering she seems to be a staunch complementarian, she's probably not bothered in the least that Ruth offers a picture of women as being less than.
BRO I saw you again on Paulogia's channel! Also I zoomed out and realized that religion is a claim made by people about the past, convinced they have certainty that it was magic.

When I stumbled upon some damaging Bible contradictions, it took me time to get to an emotional space where I was ready to deconstruct. Once I was open to it, deconstruction happened quickly.
So I guess the pre-marital sex was given an exception in this case! Seems there are a plethora of gray areas that organized religion did not want us to observe. Brandon you do bring light where truth was hidden. Thanks to you and others I have further seen things which were hidden below the surface and causes me to occasionally see further into that which was hidden from us. Great video.
Based on rabbinical explanations regarding sexual practices in the Tanakh (aka: the Septuagint), the modern idea of premarital sex was different back then in Israelite society, and according the rabbonim that I have listened to it breaks down like this: An adult Israelite male can have sex with any unmarried Israelite woman that he wants to with the understanding that in having sex with her, she becomes his wife. However, if any adult Israelite male has sex with another man's wife, then that is adultery, and they are both put to death. If an Israelite man rapes a virgin Israelite women; and she is not pledged to be married, then he must pay her father 50 silver shekels, and MUST offer to marry the woman he raped, (Deu 22:28-29).
I've always thought the book of Ruth was an interesting departure from other biblical texts and I've always appreciated the more human perspective from it was told.

Can’t question too much, can’t zoom out too much, can’t rely on your personal morals too much, otherwise this ‘holy’ book starts to look as bad as it is.
I see so many posts on atheist channels (tearing apart some apologist nitwit) proudly proclaiming 'Christain here, I too think this is nuts ...' which always makes me chuckle. The lack of self-awareness is staggering!
Brandon, do you think you could do a video on what William Lane Craig calls the "divine command theory"? I'd really like to see your take on it.But if not, that's okay too.
I can never understand how people get joyful over some messed up stories in the Bible especially when it comes to hell. When ever I read something messed up in the Bible I always come away thinking WTF!!
I have read The Story of Ruth many of times. My Father is an Amatuer Bible Scholar. I never knew that uncovering a sleeping man or woman's feet was symbolic of sexual relations in Jewish Culture. I think it even went over My Father's head because we've never discussed that aspect of The Story. Although my Father did point out that Naomi was not reciprocating Ruth's Loyalty because even he pointed out to me many times that Naomi was basically pimping Ruth out to Boaz to save her own skin.
@thing1thing2themediamaniac43 It's interesting, because other texts say that a man "went in (to his tent) and "knew' his wife, which was a King James polite way of saying he boinked his wife. Or concubine. Why would some verses mention 'knowing" a woman, but in others, the feet were uncovered or "He covered her with his cloak?" I suppose different writers/interpretations suffice.
I am doing some very surface level sleuthing and not seeing evidence to his claim about this being a euphemism. Some people say it is, but they don't have evidence.
ROFL I remember the first time I saw her video last year and I was like, "To 'zoom out' and find these connections, you'd already need to have a massive grasp on the Bible and where these verses are located." In other words, her statements come across as a little elitist ("look at me I know the Bible so well"), and as a sort of regimen that would be inaccessible to those who are new to the faith or less familiar with the Bible (which is most Christians lol). It's also incredibly subjective in nature. If I tried the same thing when I was still a Christian, I would have reached completely different conclusions.
Atheism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and all Religions are NOT about being considerate, kind, and respectful to others but all about hating GOD and Jesus Christ and filling the world with Satanic hatred, arrogance, hypocrisies, ungratefulness, cruelties, unkindness, deceits, and the Satanic LIES and false claims that - 1. GOD's Sovereignty, will, and commandments are worthless and useless, no value whatsoever 2. Jesus Christ is worthless, useless, and undeserving to be honored and respected as the Sovereign GOD's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth. Arrogant, cruel, hateful, and merciless Atheists, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and fanatics of all kinds of Religions do nothing in their lives and existence but raise, glorify, and exalt themselves as greater, powerful, glorious, higher and superior than the Most High and Sovereign GOD and his Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth. But nothing has changed, just the same.... the TRUTH that loving, kind, considerate, and respectful persons will live and exist on Earth forever remains as TRUTH GOD KNOWS that his favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence on earth without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death is NOT for arrogant, cruel, merciless, and hateful Atheists, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and all liars, slanderers, traitors, deceivers, and murderers but ONLY for loving, kind, considerate, and respectful persons on earth who honor and obey Jesus Christ as their loving, kind, and merciful Master and Heavenly King and obey his instructions and teachings too about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead". Jesus Christ KNOWS that loving, kind, considerate, and respectful persons on earth who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, King David, Daniel, his Followers and disciples, and many others will all be RESURRECTED back to life in the right and proper time so they can happily and abundantly live and exist forever on a safe and peaceful Earth without arrogant, cruel, hateful, merciless, and deceitful Atheists, Christians, and fanatics of Religions and just fully enjoy his and GOD's eternal love, kindness, goodness, generosities, compassions, favors, and blessings for eternity as submissive and obedient subjects and citizens of the "KINGDOM of GOD" under his loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection as his GOD and Father's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth.
She acts just like that woman who begged for Jeusu to heal her child. Jesus refuses at first, because " he is not there for gentiles" but gives in when she asks if she mat not hope for crumbs form the table of the rich. She is struggling to find ANY positive about women in that book, and any positive about gentiles.
Great points but what makes Moabites noteworthy is that they were one of the few people groups who were blacklisted from Israelite conversion. They were blacklisted for 10 generations which Ruth was still within.
I remember telling the story of Ruth in Sunday School. I had NO IDEA that there could be a hidden euphemism in there. Personally, I think its up for interpetation. But hot damn, I always loved this story, even as a kid. So to hear that there are more, ahem, adult ways to look at it is oddly crushing for me. Like finding out Santa is not real or something😂
I have been thinking about something for a long time. I want to make a rootbeer float with Mt. Dew and rasberry ice cream. Like a RasbeDew float! Thanks I just had to get that off my chest
Mindshift, have you seen the video "William Lane Craig Defends the Canaanite Slaughter" with Alex O'Connor? I would be genuinely interested in your take on it. For me it is one of the most repugnant thing I have seen a "mainstream" Christian say in a long time, while at the same time not being at all surprising in the grand scheme of things. It caused me to lose what little remaining respect I had for WLC, and really shows the corrupting nature of these beliefs.
You nailed it. I didnt make a response because thats really all there is to say. When one really believes in this god, these are the ideas one has to have after seriously considering the text to keep their faith. Its so very sad.
Talking about zooming out there was a pop song called zoom in the UK charts by a group called Fat Larry's Band back in the early 1980's. Judging by the size of him the Fat Larry in question must have been the drummer. He, unlike Ruth and Naomi and various other characters in the in the old testament clearly had plenty to eat. This means he was a really holy guy and God really really liked him.
Seeing her video is almost like experiencing PTSD because I am remembering back to my youth and the propaganda I heard all the time. I am glad I stepped away from that molding everything to make your faith fit instead of looking at reality. Children are taught little by little to accept this type of limited and directed thinking as the whole picture. It is sad. They pick a point in space (a place where god is the answer) and direct all thinking to that point.
zooming out works well when the bible says things like "you can beat your slaves as long as they don't die within a few days." Zoom out, he loves us! Ok good reminder, moving on....

I zoomed out and realized there were 600 english translations of the bible. That was my first clue that something wasn't right.
Just like there are 40,000 Christian denominations because none can agree on anything in the Bible.

I look back and see how terrible these people were/are to be around!
Its pretty astonishing
I have worked in hospitals and have seen devout christians, one was even a catholic nun. Where somebodies child sadly passed away.
These devout christians would whisper, they must have done something horrid. For god to punish them this way.
@@appresley4071 It's sad but true. Christians will say that they don't judge other people, but they do. If I had a nickel for every time I have seen a church member or even my family members look at something bad happen to another person and then say something like "Well they must have not had enough faith" or "I guess that they weren't living the right way" I would probably be a millionaire.
@@4dojoIt's how religion poisons. It lets believers preach one thing, do the opposite but allow them to maintain the belief that they're the good Christian.

Exactly! Well put
I hope Mr trillion dollar man sees your comment.
I also recall at every Catholic wedding I've attended, they lay it on really thick that you must raise your children to be Catholic.
So, God must have created the Pacific Yew so that it could be used as a chemotherapeutic agent? The side effects of paciltaxel include: nausea, vomiting, bone and muscle aches, hair loss, tachycardia, neuropathy, blue-black nails, mouth sores, among others - seems an omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient Being could have created something that didn’t cause such side effects - OR, HOW ABOUT A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER?????
Humans, being pattern-seeking beings, look to make sense of the world around them by finding (or creating) patterns. The laws regarding leaving some crops for the Israelite poor, as Brandon points out, didn’t provide for protection - Naomi says that Ruth should glean in Boaz’s fields where his servants could keep an eye on her, “lest others fall upon her in another field” Ruth 2:22

Spot on. Thanks for sharing

This God never claimed to create the world 14 billion years ago and have trillions of planets. He said he made a flat earth with a dome with lights in the firmament.
I never understood people who say this. Like it's some big epiphany. The rest of the stars are just a background painting for the real deal. The real action happens on earth. The fact god cares about real estate & has a fixation on foreskins tips the scale more towards a god created by man, who also cares about conquest & land & controlling others.

Oh, you of little faith, made illiterate by both church & state.
Oh, you should be so ashamed of yourself. Prophesy is unknown outside of fiction. If you were looking through job applications, you would put the prophets in the circular file. Your cult-faith depends on indoctrination of children with prophesy nonsense. Incompetence is your God. That is how you pretend to have faith & pray, knowing all the time, nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital. Oh, you of little faith. You can't expect mountains to move in obedience to your commands.

Jesus Christ has been failing to do the task for 2000 years.
Shame on you, & your God.

My comment is clear, straight, fact.
From
You ignore the fact, not all of us can pretend prophesy & God exist. That is why Jesus Christ says, "Think not I come with peace, but sword".
It is amusing to hear the profound arrogance of someone knowing of God, as if He were known outside of fiction. The believer & the literate are separated by the vocabulary of fiction: Blasphemy, God, faith, prayer, prophet, scripture etc. Matthew 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy".
"Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall". What is The Catholic faith? Organized crime, indoctrinating children with a fantasyland vocabulary? When men are free of religious notions they write, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy." "My sheep hear My voice" is the mindset of slavery. Once free of it, there are no suggestions we all travel better by having one foot in a stranger's fantasyland or Garden of Eden. A mind free of religious text is not tortured by pretending Divinity made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel, having pasted their books on to them both. Those looking for the sign of a resurrection, are a vile, "Wicked Generation" seeking signs, led by "wolves in sheep's clothing". "The only sign is that of Jonah"; a believer murdered by other believers. Chained to the slavery of faith, they write: "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13
One must be insanely arrogant to suggest knowing something of a God. It is by boldness, Moses became the world's worst navigator, by having one foot in some fantasyland. There is a fine line between fishing & standing on the shore, looking like an idiot. Fail to get the Jews to buy it for 2000 years & they should know who their Messiah is. Jesus is a fake, to immortalize the war against the Jews. Jesus Christ is crucified for all time in literature & the subjects of Rome are illiterate. Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy" & the joke is in the scriptures. "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13
An improvement on your God & faith; would outlaw indoctrination & abuse of the vocabulary of fiction on children.

@EdFranklin-qv1bf If the message makes no sense, then it makes sense to reject it.
He chose Abraham-the Jews came from him. Through them-we got the Bible and Jesus. The hatred is demonic.
I appreciate your tangents.❤
To me, "zooming out" means "considering the history going on as the books were being written and when they were compiled as well as what was done with them since." And speaking for myself, once I did that and saw what that history consisted of, let's just say that it is no surprise that most Christians do not "zoom out."
And I say "most Christians" because those that do rarely, if ever, remain Christian after doing so, especially if they "zoom out" more than once.
Yes layers for sure!
@@MindShift-Brandon Brandon let's zoom out to Jonah and Gentile's repentance outside of the Temple and Israel.
Remember when he calls Peter the son of Jonah, can we zoom out to that fact.

@sbnwnc What about the elephant god, Ganesha? Did it speak?
@@johntiggleman4686
In many Hindu texts Ganesha is referred to as the firstborn son of God (Siva) and his name literally means “Lord of hosts” - leader of Siva's attendants.
The Hindu Siva became Ham (summer) a son of Noah. The followers of Siva were phallus worshipers. See Isaiah 9.14-15, where the four sons of Ham are four constellations.
Israel is two words of Isra (phallus) + el (god).
@@johntiggleman4686 No such entity exists. No God, no Ganesha
zooming out is necessary in getting proper context. Unfortunately, some people zoom out so they can draw on irrelevant things and tie them in to fill in blanks and form justifications.
Yes exactly
Been waiting for the video today!! Thank you Brandon.
Also, any material you could point me towards about the 'inbuilt age' argument for the Earth's age. I'm sure you've come across it but in summary it states that God created the universe with inbuilt like he did Adam, who for example would still be a fully grown man in his 30s or whatever yet he's A DAY old, if you were to check him. Hope this makes sense.
Appreciate your work once again as I'm on my deconstruction journey and, the video on how to get over the fear of hell has been of such great help!!
Thanks once again.
My pleasure. Hope you enjoy!
I'm sure I will..also just edited my comment, hope u get a sec and have a look 😅
@@aak2931i am familiar with it. Not sure where i can point you except to get a better understanding of the earths history and a true grasp of evolution. I get the argument, but it would make no sense to have these fossil records going back millions of years that god would have had to create and bury etc just to make the earth cone into existence at one point in the future. I’ll just do a video lol
@@MindShift-Brandon
Yh, I've had a look around and can't find anything particularly addressing it. What's funny is that some Christians don't even agree with it lol.(Surprise surprise 😂)
But that's a point towards the right direction on how to look at it.
I don't understand how someone can say we humans are dirt! How? We are amazing and could do so much wonderful things! 🥰
Christians like to give their kids biblical names, but no one ever has the guts to name their son Boaz.
"You need to zoom out"
While I also agree that people should be able to see the big picture, this woman has obviously already missed the big picture by taking two completely different books and trying to connect invisible dots to make herself feel better about her faith. Yes, the Old Testament was *obviously* written as a pretext to Christ. God was a complete monster, and an asshole, to various people groups just so he could come down later and say "kek just a product of the times fam shit's different now" because that's what a perfect, all-knowing God would do.
"I got lost in my bible studies until I did this one thing"
That's odd.
Hearing her entire little diatribe at the beginning reminded me of marvel fan boys debating the Thanos snap. Just a bunch of fantasy bs
Zooming out brought the true evils of this religion in to focus & obliterated my faith. The freedom & relief knowing I'm not crazy is immense. ❤❤
Joshua Judges Ruth by Lyle Lovett and church of the poison mind by Culture Club, 2 of my favorite songs.
Biblical Ruth is the constellation Virgo.
One of my favorite Bhuddist practices is zooming out...about a few trillion light years and looking at the big picture.
Hey Brandon, have you ever watched the Esoterica channel? There is a cool video where the host examines/dissects the origins of this Yahweh deity. I believe the video is titled Who Is Yahweh? I thought it was interesting. Keep up the good work!
Will check it out. Thanks

See....Career of Jesus Christ by Milton Woolley.
Cherry picking and contextual manipulation is a critical skill for the religious.
BRO I saw you again on Paulogia's channel! Also I zoomed out and realized that religion is a claim made by people about the past, convinced they have certainty that it was magic.

@@harveywabbit9541 I've heard Orthodox rabbis say that Moab means, "of my father", which reflects the reality of the story that the older daughter was not ashamed of the incestuous sexual relation with her father, while the younger daughter hid that reality by naming her son, Ben-Ammi (son of our people).

'How to Faith a Life' just called me a dirty Gentile, and personally... I am offended.
Many thanks!
Based on rabbinical explanations regarding sexual practices in the Tanakh (aka: the Septuagint), the modern idea of premarital sex was different back then in Israelite society, and according the rabbonim that I have listened to it breaks down like this:
An adult Israelite male can have sex with any unmarried Israelite woman that he wants to with the understanding that in having sex with her, she becomes his wife.
"Zooming out" = context, insight, understanding. One can only do it with strong knowledge of the text. Can you please compile/write a book?
Not much point in zooming out though, if you keep your tunnel vision.
Indeed!
I've always thought the book of Ruth was an interesting departure from other biblical texts and I've always appreciated the more human perspective from it was told.
I look at this and I wonder about all the other Ruths and Naomis who weren't in the bloodline of Christ and didn't have this spiritual economic safety net.
Also why did Naomi move to Moab anyway?
I watch her channel all the time! The amount of time and money she spends on all her bible journaling crap just fascinates me. How does someone base their whole life around a journal??
You need to collaborate with Dan McClellan and talk about the univocality of the Bible!
It does say in Ruth that she left without “knowing” him. I don’t think there was any um… “knowing” yet at the point of exposing the um… “feet”
Subconsciously choosing to avoid seeing the whole picture allowed me to remain a Christian for years when I observed the moral atrocities of God and his people. Can’t question too much, can’t zoom out too much, can’t rely on your personal morals too much, otherwise this ‘holy’ book starts to look as bad as it is.

It would have been nice of Brandon to provide a source for that assertion. Maybe it was in the other video and I missed it.
