It is really fascinating, these lectures should be revisited for anyone who’s wanted to have a good grasp on what Hallaq is about.

Fascinating. Can someone ask Hallaq to simplify his arguments and speak in the idiom of the masses?

Correct me if I understood the statement mentioned by prof Anjum is wrong but the asharis or the ashariyyah in general do not believe God can act immoral. Asharis believe that God is not obliged by any reason to do things or makes thing morally right or wrong rather he does whatever he wills through His Iradah, Qudra and Hikmah. So whatever is moral can only be determined by what God says for example oppression in itself is not immoral but it is immoral because God deemed it immoral and His commands are not arbitrary because He is Good, Perfect and Wise. He is the source of all Good. It is in his nature to be Good and Perfect so whatever he commands is always Good. So I just wanted to say that the asharis do not claim that God can act immoral. Wael hallaq briefly touched upon this in his response but I still wanted to tell this. JazakAllahu khair for the lecture.
