I’d like to hear two identical amps except one is Class A and one is Class A/B running into the same cab so we could really hear the difference.

It's plausible, but there's so many different design elements that would come into play. I had one guy swear he wanted class A, but then selected the SJv as his favorite amp of mine....... Class AB cathode bias (often mislabeled as class A)

@@DeadKoby I mean close as possible in terms of, EQ/preamp, tube types, watts etc. Tube vs solid state rectifier too.

DC is like water supply pressure tower. You put a hose in and if the other end is lower, "power" will leak and the battery goes empty. You only use the potential energy of height (voltage/electromotoric power). In fact battery discharging is a veeery slow ac current with only 1/2 of wave length from maximum to minimum.
With alternating current it is like waves in the oceans - water is only a medium - a tsunami wave is a work made by seismic power on water. Tsunami wave goes somewhere and uses this kinetic energy to hit ground obstacles, but the water goes back to ocean. If Your ship is going with a speed of tsunami wave it takes 0 damage because it is in phase with tsunami (a remote place connected with a cable and no load)... if it is connected to ground tsunami will use its energy on it = load.

There are loads of amps out there and learning about their workings is just fab on any level...I've had quite a few amps over the years and play a tele, but he best one ever for me was a Musicman I use to have before it died many moons ago.. Great tone and so controllable. I wish I still had it...Keep up the awesome work..!

Cool... I've not yet had a MusicMan to work on.... but hopefully one will come my way eventually. I enjoy seeing how different companies engineer their amps.

No offense man but on your fender sidekick video you said maybe gain was like overdrive or something, and you didn't understand why there was a master , gain and volume knob. Are you sure you should be giving amp advice?

    • @DeadKoby

Many amps (like the sidekick) are on the channel are 100% new to me when filming starts so I don't always know the controls for each model. I have a working knowledge of amp info, but sometimes getting it from the brain to the voice is easier said that done. In auction finds, and repair-a-thon videos, I'm seeing amps I've never seen/heard/used before.

Excellent explanation! Great for noobs to get their feet wet, as well as old-timers who might be a bit rusty on their theory.

Thank you. Once I "got it" I wasn't sure I could find a way to explain it to anyone else. I have the next topic picked out, and I think it'll be a little more fun.

I just rec'd a brand newHarmony H650 Tube amp. Do i need to acclimatized before plugging and playing? Thank you

Just make sure if it was cold outside, or something like that... that you allow it to get close to room temperature.

Class A one tube drives the power. 2 tubes share the power chores. One tube powers , the other idles.

    • @DeadKoby
      @DeadKoby  4 года назад

Actually, that'd be Class B.... With Two power tubes, One is idle in Class B. In AB, one makes it to idle only at max volume levels.

Cool Vid...Thanks for sharing your knowledge..I'm trying to get a handle on valve amps and their circitry, so I'm absorbing all kinds of stuff from you clever engineers here on You Tube..Ed..U.K.

So what does it actually mean to burn up to just give a giveaway it’s vacuum

    • @DeadKoby

Inside the tube, with too much current running through a given tube, several failure modes are possible. Emission loss, shorted/open elements due to overheat, internal arcing..... Under normal conditions, a tube's cathode has a limited number of electrons it can emit in its life. If it's expressed by the maker, it's usually in hours of operation under specified parameters. Metaphorically, tubes are like candles, too short a wick (low bias) and it doesn't provide much service. Too much wick (hot bias) and it provides a lot more, but only a very short time. Bias is the balance of getting the most power without spoiling the life.
