Hi Friends, I am Anshul Tiwari and welcome to our youtube channel ITkFunde.
About this video -
In this video, we will understand what is a Data Vault and difference between 3NF
VS
Dimensional Model
VS
Data Vault.
Data Vault 2.0 is a data modeling technique that takes a hybrid approach towards designing a data warehouse by integrating good things of a 3NF (3rd Normal Form) and a Dimensional model. Data Vault is highly flexible, scalable and auditable which is required to build an agile data warehouse.
The pace at which business processes are evolving today, companies need a data warehouse that can easily absorb these changes while maintaining the data consistency. Data Vault with the help its 3 main components HUBS, LINKS and SATELLITES
provide a data model that can easily absorb these changes into an enterprise data warehouse.
3 components of Data Vault -
1) Hubs - Business keys which can be uniquely identified
2) Links - Relationship defined between 2 hubs
3) Satellite - Descriptor attached to a Hub which provides the business context
Data Vault offers an exciting option to be explored while designing an agile data warehouse. While you will still need dimensional models and data marts for Business Intelligence reporting. Data Vault can easily act as a middleman between source systems (3NF) and Data marts (Dimensional) as an enterprise data store or enterprise data warehouse.

Anshul, thanks for such noble work you are doing training the world articulating complex technological concepts, products, services, and solutions in a way a non-techy can understand. I have been in the IT industry for 35 years now seen and done everything including programing, managing, C-level, etc. Your articulation skills are so impressive creating me a student again to listen to your lecture series. Your thinking, understanding, and explaining technologies are crystal clear and accurate. Again, thanks and keep up the great work. I started listing to your videos just a week or two back and I already see so much of gratitude pouring in. God Bless my dear!

Amazing explanation! Thank you very much!
Simply yet brilliantly explained..
I visit this video again and again when I have doubts.. Thanks 👍
Thank you for the presentation. I just realized that i am using similar technique in our EDW and I call it as my Normalized Data Store (NDS), without realizing it is some sort of Data Vault modeling. For every major concept (like Hub here), we create 2 surrogate keys, one we call it as object key and second one - object version key and all the child tables of the concept only use object key as the FK.
Is this the most common method these days?
Thank you so much for such detailed explanation!
Thanks
Thanks for the explanation of the data vault this really made me understand the concept in one go
