Have I still got it ? I got two drum machines. Is it worth me getting it I still like it I try at the shop sometime but I’m more guitar and mixing ,, but I really need someone’s option that’s owned 1
I'm a dumb guitar player, and always wanted to add keys/synth of some type. I have zero knowledge on these things, but got a Korg Monologue anyway. Your series on it has been a great jumping off point, so thanks for that.
Thank you so much for making these videos. I went through all of them with my monologue, recreating every step you made and I learned so much from it! A really great place to learn when you just unboxed the monologue. Again, thanks!
Thank you very much for your message, and for watching the videos. It is for people like you that I do these videos, and I am grateful and happy that they are helpful!
2:49 in the global menu under the first button there is a global transpose -12 to +12 that won't transpose all presets but will allow you to go lower or higher on the keyboard. And in the Program Edit menu under the third button is an additional -12 to +12 transpose that is tied to the preset. That's -24 to +24 already that already takes us to clicks on all waveforms and then there's pitch bend if you would need to take the range to -36 to +36. And yet there's the pitch knob for VCO 2, so it's not limited in range at all :)
Wow, so glad I discovered this series. An amateur newbie who "played" GarageBand synths on a laptop, I decided to go out the door into the real world with a Monologue and upon plugging it in thought, where am I and what have I gotten myself into? Your vids are helping to make shapes and sense out of the white noise haze of confusion! Many, many thanks!
Hi Marc, Thanks so much for putting this together. You did a masterful job in the parts I've seen and as a new owner of a Monologue, I really appreciate this. I own a LOT of synths...and this is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites. I have questions, but will watch each part before asking.[ Thanks again
Good 'ole WM from high school. Thank you for taking this all the-right-amount-of seriously. SO much easier when I have a synth that you've gone thru. Really get a huge head start learning it.
I almost bought the Minilogue but since I have the Deepmind 12 I decided that a mono synth would contrast better. The monologue is a challenge for me but it's good to know that vids like this can help me understand it's capabilities quicker. Thanks! I subscribed too.
I just noticed the oscilloscope window does not reflect the octave changes on the shape of the waves. The width of the wave stay the same rather that getting wider when you lower and closer when you go higher. Does the minilogue do that? I guess it doesn't actively monitor the wave shape? At any rate it's a cool little mini synth.
I bought mine used because I didn't want to wait for backorder. I've reset the factory settings (all) but it still doesn't sound exactly like this, even though I'm matching the settings as I see them here. Any ideas? (apart from user error?)
When knob Master Volume in my Monologue is in position "zero", I still hear silent sounds in headphones (in output too) when I play on keys. Is it normal thing? Can I do something with it? I'd rather hear total silence when Master knob is off.
It's not an absolute zero/off. Depends on what settings you have. You shouldn't hear anything if both of oscillator volumes are all the way down and no resonance
Any idea how to save favorites? I see you can recall them using the shift key plus step sequencer buttons but I cant find how to save patches to favorites? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great in depth reveiw of the synth, very cool features for a small package. To me it sounded like the Saw and Triangle were being wavefolded , maybe im wrong ???. Great timbral possibilities and wonderful video demo Marc ;-).
For Nine Inch Nails type synth, would this or the Arturia Microbrute be better overall? I love the look of the Monologue, looks like a much better interface than the Microbrute but the Micro does have the "brute" setting which might distort it a bit which seems like a good addition. What are the pros and cons of each?
Hi, im 14 and i got the korg monologue, volca samble and the volca bass. Can you please tell me where can I learn to use them together. Is there a course? Thank you
I'm curious Marc as to whether you've ever spoken with Tatsuya himself, maybe at NAMM? I imagine he'd be thrilled to know that somebody so enthusiastic and capable is demonstrating the full breadth of capabilities his synths offer. I bought a minilogue in large part because of your demos, and I doubt I'm the only one. thanks for your hard work :)
Just purchased a monologue and have a problem with the lowest E key. It plays normally and then for no reason it cuts out or appears to play like the sequencer is running completely randomly! Everything else appears to be working fine. Anyone else noticed?
Depends what your LFO is set to and if you have both oscillators on that cause them to phase over. Try an init patch and it should't do that and then it's just getting to know what effects what from there
Thank you! And shouldn't you be more concerned about whether Korg paid me for about 80 hours of my substantial experience, my educational skill, my creation of a curriculum for this device, my planning about how shooting the video should occur, my actual shooting of hours of video whilst employing my presentational skill and plan for demonstration, the editing of hours of footage to create these videos, the still photography of the unit, the hours of editing video and animation for the bumpers, the composition of a theme that is comprised entirely of multitracking a monophonic instrument against drums, and then the promotion of this product on an Internet platform that has demonstrated substantial success in promoting, educating people about, and literally selling synthesizers (which is to say that posting these things on Automatic Gainsay has substantial value for companies)? After all that, you're worried about whether I got to keep a synthesizer that it probably cost Korg about $150.00 to make? Even if I charged $15 an hour (minimum wage in some places in the US), the amount of money, time, and value invested in this series of videos so vastly exceeds the cost of a Monologue (wholesale OR retail) that whether or not I got to keep the unit should be immaterial. But I'll say what I've always said... which I don't even have to say... I get NO FINANCIAL RECOMPENSE for any of my efforts on Automatic Gainsay. I am not a paid employee of these companies. I do not work for these companies. I am not paid by these companies. Increasingly often, though, as a token gift of gratitude from these companies, I am given the unit that I demonstrated. So, for those who think "he's just saying nice things about these units so that the company will give them to him," you don't know shit about how much time, effort, and expertise goes into making these videos... and shame on you for your ignorance. I don't need to spend the amount of effort I do for series like this JUST TO GET A $300 SYNTH for the love of God. I'm an adult with a full time job, and forking out that relatively small amount of money is about a BILLION TIMES easier than making these videos for people. So, you (all of you, not vitaklon specifically) will forgive me if I don't waste any time at all making sure you know whether or not a company gave me a synth or not.
I wouldn't, because they both do different things. I love the MicroBrute for its unique sound and functionality. The Monologue does have two oscillators, but what it comes down to is your connection to the sound of functionality of both. I'd say you should test drive them!
Chuck Rios I know less than Marc Doty but I’ve owned both synths and he’s right. Each have different features and their own unique sound. I prefer the Microbrute for sound by a very thin margin, but I kept the Monologue for the waveshaping, 2nd oscillator, the awesome sequencer, and it’s connect-ability to my other gear.
You can transpose all waveshapes -24 to +24 and an additional -12 to +12 with pitch bend and even more on VCO 2 with the pitch knob so it's definately not limited in range.
i really don`t get why it doesn`t have CV out and things like that. I mean even the Microbrute has some kind of patching functionality. Can you sequence-trigger an analog synth without using Midi? Such as Dreadbox Erebus, Doepfer Dark Energy ? ps: and for Gods sake Korg. Put a freaking Hold-Key-Latch whatever button somewhere!
1) The Latch only works for the Arpeggiator i am talking about HOLD or LATCH of any key you push as found on the Bass Station 2 for example. 2) Minilogue doesn`t have CV out. Only "Volca signal" out
Gordon Bennett it still is nit a Key Hold function. So if i want to leave a chord playing i always need my computer or an external sequencer with that option
Only i think - why most of hardware companies do a bet on Mono sounds? When everyone trying to find something new, mix all and etc..software synths doing a really new cool products but hardware synths like rested do a bet on Mono) For whom? I think it's a big mistake of them that will finally crash a hardware bussnes in a soon time.
Why is it so important to you that a synthesizer play multiple iterations of the same waveform at the same octave when you play multiple notes? Monophonic synthesizers behave differently than polyphonic synthesizers. If you think monophonics are "limited" by not playing multiple notes simultaneously, you're missing the point of monophonics.
@@automaticgainsay i am just tired of personal feelings about a function or what else on this tool... I like to here short and good explanained technical functions. Learning how to use this from these videos, I ended up doing a Monologue solo on my metal bands latest album. A lot of fun, love this thing!
I'd be interested to hear that!

Merci beaucoup! Vos vidéos pour expliquer toutes les fonctions du monologue sont les meilleurs sur RUclips. Thank you

Conblurgh lol same, got some tips for a starting synth user? (After 3 years)
Bought mine super fast just really feel it's the mono synth korg have been working towards since the monotribe. Going to LOVE your videos on this one!

Good introduction video! I already discovered something I didn't about the Monologue. Surprised that Korg never lent one out to Sonicstate for review.
Awesome! It's also a rather beautiful looking little synth.

Love the theme song and your integration of the very synth we are speaking of!! Very cool.
Superb assistant. Excellent work . Thanks for doing these. 🤘
Excellent video series, really helped me to make my decision on buying this synth and getting to grips with it!
I love my Monologue. Korg smacked it right out of the park with this one.

great reveiw. love your upbeat personality. makes it fun to learn.
Thank you so much! I'm glad to help.
Love this. I was looking at a few mono synths. And this is going to be the one.
As an engineer, I will yell at you but only for doubting yourself! Analog does hold infinite values, so there are infinite options to choose from.
Great video, thanks. Just got mine in the mail today. Hoo boy, fun times ahead.
🙏🏻 thank you for this tutorial! I’ll jump straight to the next one.. I hope you have plenty enough!! :)
Love your videos mate entertaining and very informative I was going to sell my monologue but now I'm keeping it!!👍👍
Thank you, and good idea!
Please make a full song of the intro its amazing!
What a cool lil' synth ! Thanks for sharing Mark !

SteeVtheRipper Try setting portamento time to a value other than "off" and then play legato.
pseen I don't have the synth. Just making an observation on the video. Thanks though!
wow do you get rid of the klick sound?
Watch the video in this series that talks extensively about it
Brilliant series of videos, thanks
Brilliant video, sold me on this as my first synth!
A fine choice!
Very good work mate. Much appriciated !

3:15 I think you could get higher frequencies by detuning as well as bending the sound
I think mine has a fault. If the mixer has box VCO dials turned all the way anti-clockwise there is still sound. Is this right?
When knob Master Volume in my Monologue is in position "zero", I still hear silent sounds in headphones (in output too) when I play on keys. Is it normal thing? Can I do something with it? I'd rather hear total silence when Master knob is off.

Can you play chords in this thing? Srry but i didnt see anybody playing chords/ambient stuff
No, it's monophonic

"The triangle is actually an octave lower than the sawtooth..."
I bet that there are triangle core oscillators.
The pulse wave is the same octave as the triangle, btw.
thanks for this great video!

I really appreciate this. Really.
Can I use a talkbox with this
sick intro tune!
Thank you! It's among my favorites! And, it always delights me that the tiny Monologue is responsible for such a big sound.
Really good! A thought tho. Arnt you suppose to be more clear about if you got this from Korg? Like in the description?

Korg Monologue vs Moog Sub 25: who wins?
Is the sound / tone any different from the minilogue?
Yes it's different,Monologue has deeper fatter sounds.
which synth are you on? like what program
Also GREAT video. super engaging, and I have trouble staying engaged! thanks ill be watching them all
What? It's a hardware synth
Maybe Korg will release a Monologue XD soon...we will see.
Korg heard yah and released the NTS-1 ;-)
All i need to know thanks 👍👍
Every time i hear that tune i think of Chemical Brothers, Let Forever Be, superb ;)
Me too! :D
Makes sense to me that triangle and square are lower than saw because saw is made from the other 2

its monophonic, so you wouldn't be leaving any chords even if it did have a key hold function

Mono synths are great. And popular. And Korg doesn't bet on mono, they also sell the Minilogue, Minilogue XD, Prologue 8, Prologue 16, even Volca Keys
