@@ThatBadassLife yeah I meant it's not worth paying US$20 this two tier price structure is a very old discriminative practice since the state sector is run by baby boomers and regrettably still stuck in either welfare or old way of doing things and this is just a one example Majority rural folks still believe you can milk foreigners specially the once from the West Perhaps not new to you anymore
Yeah not worth it. I think it was more originally. Truthfully I don’t mind paying a bit more as a foreigner in general. Not crazy amounts more but a little because I know most locals don’t make anywhere near what I make as an American. So I’d love for locals to be able to afford the same things I get to do as a traveler. And foreigners get charged more everywhere. Like a said, a little more is okay. But these days here in Sri Lanka so many trying to rip me off. That’s a different story.
But the scamming and gouging has def been worse here than anywhere else. And I always like to give to those asking on the street but with so many scams you don’t know who is real. We had a guy who was actually dressed pretty nice walk up to us in Cargills Majestic City and ask my wife to buy him stuff. And was very specific like 5kg of rice, 3kg of dhal. It was wild. Then sometimes heads at a market will start speaking to my wife in Sinhalese telling her to get me to spend money with them thinking she’s some girl I met not realizing she’s my wife.
Awesome
Thanksss
