- Poverty in India: Lack of official data since 2011 has meant that there is a raging debate about what happened to India’s poverty levels in the past decade. Different economists have found very different results. Some find that India has almost eliminated extreme poverty. Others argue that poverty levels have actually gone up. What is the truth? In this week’s Express Economist, professor Maitreesh Ghatak of the London School of Economics explains the central arguments of the “great Indian poverty debate”.

Great discussion. Thanks a lot.
Lovely discussion & eye opener. Unfortunately Politics is taking over this critical issue
Objective and very clear. The use of CSO data idoes not seem compatible with assumptions that decide the result anyway but on the other hand sometimes public date compilation is poorly handled in which case it's findings make little sense unless corrected in time.
Good discussion
V know that you need not sermon. It is not so bad as some decades ago.
