Calcharo got nerfed anyways. So danjin and MC, chixia and some others got buffed while others got pretty hard nerfed. So whoever go for calcharo, just be aware they made him dirty. You have been warned.
I think most ccs are just gonna have a second account where they spend money but mainly show content from the f2p to be relatable and do testing on the spender account (hopefully) so kuro gets money
I'm willing to put money on this game no matter how F2P they are. If they continue to listen to feedbacks, be generous and give us a enjoyable experience, I will give them my money. I might spend to get battle passes or similar to Welkins. Also we might get paid skins in the future so I need to prepare for that.

It depends on skill or a bullshit mehanic. Wana know the new valhelm biome boss? Good luck doing it melle when it puts a fire circle under you 80% of time. If they add a boss that need specific character (lets say shield) to survive a un-avoidiable hit, then its already something wrong.

I've been a Traveler Main and Trailblazer Main for as long as both Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail have been on the scene since launch, and I seriously can't wait to flex my prowess as a Male Rover Main in WuWa in the near future. I didn't get into the Closed Beta, but with how well I've been performing in both Genshin and HSR as the Male MC, I expect myself to perform just as Godly in Wuwa as well. Strictly speaking, I'll be going the Weekly Pass/Month Pass for fun, not out of necessity, since obviously with Skill and interest in Exploration, you don't need to Pay2Win/Pay2Play for anything. This is the kind of game that favors/encourages Player Skill, to the point that even the "Power Scaling" of the other DPS units is meaningless if YOU can't draw out each character's full damage potential. I think this is the major "Fun Factor" when it comes to the MC, since despite their DPS numbers being lower that their 5-Star/4-Star Companions, they can put in the work as long as YOU are good. But regardless, that's my stance on how I am personally enjoying my journey in Wuthering Waves, but I do genuinely wish you the best on your journey as well, Smack. I can't wait for WuWa to be as hype, if not hype'ier than HSR and Genshin combined, as it has that much potential of being one of the Best Skilled Combat RPGs with Gacha Game Elements on the market. Problem is, In hsr and genshin Male and female don't really have much cosmetic difference. But, in wuwa female one looks so good the eye-shadow, hairstyle etc. I generally pick male, cause during main story, it always feel weird being the female protagonist. But I will pick female rover this time

It doesn't change anything for the devs. They are going to continue getting their average salary. The money will go to shareholders and CEOs. That's how the industry works.
Honestly drives me crazy when content creators go F2P. Just seems like its "I'm going to make my money off this game no matter what, why invest at all?". Not that it needs to be max dupes all weapons and stuff, but still. They say "its more fun", well, yeah, you're getting paid a ton to play the game! I want to see creators have all the characters, try them out, give me their input on them, etc. Like Smack here, I couldn't afford Aventurine, but was glad to see Smack get him and go through him and give some input.
It’s fun to see a whaled out account for like one video and see how overpowered it is, but doing this blocks them off from doing any content like “how to beat x” “beating x boss” you can always find somebody who’s whaled their account somewhere else but it gets boring watching them disintegrate anything they touch. It removes any and all difficulty from the game so if they try to make any type of content related to beating a boss it would be silly because they just one shot it, how would they know how a regular person can beat it? charachters take 40 days to build properly btw so they can’t really just get them to simply make a video on unless they wanna brick their account TL;DR locks them off from making content, makes the game unfun

I'm personally arranging my spending to go into WW instead if I actually enjoy the game. Kuro have gone above and beyond to listen to the players, so even if I can't single handedly finance the game, I'm giving 20-30 bucks for the first month.

Encouraging everyone to go f2p if everyone listens, then even if Wuwa is good, to the devs and investors, the game will be a flop. Both Jiyan and Calcharo will be powercrept rather sooner than later. On the other hand characters with a strong niche like Yinlin or with supportive value like Jianxin tend to age better.
Yeah, not much you can do. I will go with saving strategy as i do in genshin right now. Save up 120+ wishes before even trying to get something. My plan right now is to skip 2 banners and go for characters in next one. One being that i will lack resorces anyway to lvl them and second, new ones could just be more powerfull.

I'm really excited about the prospect of a monk style character. I am an absolute fiend for monk archetypes. My Baldurs Gate 3 playthrough I was a way of the open hand monk the whole way through and it was one of the best gaming experiences Ive had in recent years. Now I get a sick ass anime woman monk? I don't mind the change but the complains of others are valid because being F2P is not really a special thing to do, and viewers will feel like they are just watching the same ass characters they play. When whales and spenders have more space to conjure up off-meta and creative teams due to them being able to build characters 2x faster than a F2P, which can take months to fully even build a character

Great video Smack. I also had an odd/unpopular take on going f2p. I actually lowkey wish devs would put a donation option for f2p players that want to stay true to f2p experience, but still give support to their work. I've realized over the years of playing gacha games that when I've spent in games I've instantly felt remorse and would quickly drop game b/c it would become much less challenging as well as feel much less satisfying. I know Volkin has voiced this same paradox many times in the past. However I would still love the option to donate money to developers like Kuro (and Tourdog from Alchemy Stars in past) to support them for listening to player feedback and promote their game without reducing my f2p experience. Seems like a good solution to supporting devs while still maintaining "f2p btw.". Anyways thanks for the vid Smack, always love your off the beaten meta strats, cheers!
if you just wanna give money to the game and not get the advantages, just buy primos/gems or whatever the currency is in this game and not use it, buy 10,000 gigagems for example, then you get 1000 F2P gems, so you now got 11,000 gems, then just remember to always leave 10,000 in your account. just do that instead of having the devs implement a new feature just for you.
You can always buy in-game currency for other players. You'd make a ton of friends in the process too. A donation button would be seen as greedy anyway. A dev recently got blasted for suggesting people donate if they really liked their full price game.
You could literally just make another account and spend on it and not play. Boom, donation given. You could also support someone else who would want to spend but can't afford it for various reasons. If you're actually about what you claim...
F2P is a bait. Luck can remove the f2p feeling, and well as re-rolling. (and time) It is just painful as a viewer to see CC with the same teams for ages. The WORST thing is watching f2p players pass by multiple units because they're not "strong enough" or "sidegrades", or skipping good units because some extremely powerful unit is down the line. Someone like Mtash being the "combat guy" skipping so many units in Genshin was ironic, especially since he overdid vertical investment. Just stick to a copy of every limited unit and nothing else......like actually stick to it this time. Also remember Tectone has "executive farmers" and does not do much extracurricular HSR content himself. His f2p experience is not normal. He had so many extra resources and doesn't get burned out from the monotony of f2p.
Building a charachter in wuwa takes 40 days, unless they made this better they are directly harming themselves by making it so nobody will want to pull for characters, they also do not have a stamina overcap.

Tectone's only F2P file so far has been Star Rail, and he was successful in remaining FULLY F2P until Acheron's banner. Pulling for Acheron was the first time he ever used any of the paid currency that was gifted to his account by viewers.

I rerolled twice even If I had a good account because of the 20 limited pull, 40 standard and the selector and dam, it was worth it. I got Jyan in 20 pulls (15 pity), Now, hopefully I’ll get Yinlin!
If the game is good and keeps me engaged long term, the devs deserve some money from me. Would feel weird to play a game for years and not drop a dime.

I have seen alot of videos saying that u shud not be using ur corals(starglitter of Wuthering) and shud instead be saving them just to buy the cons of the limited 5 star characters. Instead what i believe is we shud be using them to get more limited wishes because that will allow us to get more characters and the more character we have that we like and enjoy playing with, the better the game experience going to be, so dont feel forced to buy cons just do what u think u will enjoy and have fun

I love the fact that 4 stars are how they are. First thing I saw about WUWA was all the characters and I couldn't distinguish the 5 stars except Jiyuan from the 4 stars.
I’m going with daily login and battlepass because is kind of a subscription and its appreciation for the game. Giving money to kuro is not bad folks. It helps them develop the game.

Like they can play however they want to play plus you can go to other cc’s who do whale to give you info about the characters. Another thing is that F2P players will have more in depth knowledge on “how to beat this boss/enemy as a F2P” or “F2P build on (x) character”
Yes! Too many people are sleeping on Yuanwu. He's the fischl of this game, AND you get him for free. In every video i see about this game people are always complaining about field time this and field time that yet are completely OVERLOOKING the dude who does great damage OFF FIELD. Not to mention you get him for free like Xiangling from clearing the tower. He's definitely getting 100% built and invested in my account.
I only discovered this game 2-3 days ago, and the first gameplay I saw was of Chixia...At that point i decided i wanted to main her....And then every single video and every single tier list tells me no. Now Im just torn lol.....She looks fun as hell, but now ya'll have me doubting my choices QQ :D. Shoulda just went in blind, like i did Genshin impact years ago!. The minmaxer in me is screaming at me, the Gamer in me is whispering that its all about fun. But the older i get the less the latter voice wins xD

Given my experience with Genshin, with WuWa I'll be F2P with the occasional Welkin purchase (Wuwa equivalent). Imo this the best way to enjoy the game.
Its not that shes a meta healer than can heal off field. She scales off attack, gives an attack buff and is the best support we're gonna have for a very long time.
Chixia & Sanhua are my favourites design wise so I'm just gonna go for them and figure out the rest later. As for spending, I'll probably buy the cheaper monthly/weekly deals if I feel like they're worth it, otherwise I'll just rock it F2P. I'll probably roll on Jiyan's banner because Chixia's on there; If I get him cool, if not no worries :)
Having been a forced F2P for most of my gaming life, these days, I'm pretty ok being a low spender at least, especially if the game's a lot of fun. Coming from both Star Rail and PGR, I'm down to support Wuther Waves if I enjoy it as much as those two.
For people complaining about CCs going free to play - wait till you find out studios are usually paying THEM through sponsorships, not the other way around. Thinking a handful of CCs not whaling would make any financial difference to Kuro is way too simplistic, while advertising the game heavily as f2p friendly is actually a good strategy for drawing in tons of new players, most of whom will eventually spend.
I’m usually f2p and what happens for me is that I end up 1 rerun behind the desired units I want. Like right now I’m saving for Ruan Mei and Acheron in HSR.
It's fine if CC's decide to become F2P. In a way, they're already helping the game by providing content, publicity and other promotional materials. On the other hand though, they earn money from doing this. They have a better financial capacity than most average players. And also, as CC's, it'd be great if they can get as many characters as they want, so they can have first hand experience with them, and then be able to provide more content like guides, for the community.
For me, Re-Rolling in gacha games like these is like cheating to yourself. (stupid analogy i know) I don't reroll because even if i don't get the character i specifically want, at some point it will most likely have a good ending after a few patches. Like i was fine as long as i didn't get Lingyang, and even if i did i would've just gone with it and see where fate brings me. I got Encore. Had no intentions to get her but in the end im still a happy man, and I can still call myself lucky with that because she will benefit from a future fusion support. Like i get that every Fusion character will benefit from a fusion support, but getting Encore means i can skip other fusion characters if I don't care about the meta too much. Having 3 Dps' is pretty important for endgame and optimally one dps of every element. Anyways just wanted to share my thoughts about rerolling, simply said: Just go with whatever you get because there will be a point in the future where you'll be glad to have gotten that character. (This reminds me very much of Himeko; on launch ass but got meta ever since pure fiction)

I must say, this video helped me a lot in making up my mind. I haven't really watched a lot of gameplay videos, and it was helpful to get an opinion about the way the characters are played, what their pros and cons are, etc. This being said, I think I have a very similiar way of thinking like Gacha Smack does when it comes to games like these. The only thing where I would noticeably differ, is the immediacy of my focus an glacial characters. I think this is a very enjoyable playstle, and while I do agree that the Ying-Yang girl, and the electro-teams are very much worth it, I must also say that I hate those loli-characters and I would only invest in our loli-healer with a lot of grudge. But I would feel that this becomes a "painful" necessity. Encore, or whatever this girl is called, is the only 5-star that might convince me to go for a reroll. But that is also the pleasure (and pain) of being a F2P: no risk, no fun.

That being said, they can also make a lot of money with skins, so I hope they will deliver as well in that regard. I love this list as it is so similar to mine, except I got Jiyan cause hes a powerful unit and goes with Mortifi, also Calcharo since Yinlin is coming and I wanna try them together & finally I absolutely love Aalto's kit and speed. So far my 5* are: Jianxin(Got her before the selector), Verina(Selector), Calcharo (Selector) and Jiyan(Limited). I think It's good for a starting point.
because of my Honkai star rail journey I'm not too sure who I really want to invest in. The worry that I'll never use em again and be resource drained later scares me. Though I whale fairly hard in Honkai and I don't intend to in this game. The only one i'm gonna for sure invest in is Encore and maybe the girl with the black and white outfit. I've been a Traveler Main and Trailblazer Main for as long as both Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail have been on the scene since launch, and I seriously can't wait to flex my prowess as a Male Rover Main in WuWa in the near future. I didn't get into the Closed Beta, but with how well I've been performing in both Genshin and HSR as the Male MC, I expect myself to perform just as Godly in Wuwa as well.
Strictly speaking, I'll be going the Weekly Pass/Month Pass for fun, not out of necessity, since obviously with Skill and interest in Exploration, you don't need to Pay2Win/Pay2Play for anything. This is the kind of game that favors/encourages Player Skill, to the point that even the "Power Scaling" of the other DPS units is meaningless if YOU can't draw out each character's full damage potential. I think this is the major "Fun Factor" when it comes to the MC, since despite their DPS numbers being lower that their 5-Star/4-Star Companions, they can put in the work as long as YOU are good.
But regardless, that's my stance on how I am personally enjoying my journey in Wuthering Waves, but I do genuinely wish you the best on your journey as well, Smack. I can't wait for WuWa to be as hype, if not hype'ier than HSR and Genshin combined, as it has that much potential of being one of the Best Skilled Combat RPGs with Gacha Game Elements on the market. Honestly drives me crazy when content creators go F2P. Just seems like its "I'm going to make my money off this game no matter what, why invest at all?". Not that it needs to be max dupes all weapons and stuff, but still.

It’s fun to see a whaled out account for like one video and see how overpowered it is, but doing this blocks them off from doing any content like “how to beat x” “beating x boss” you can always find somebody who’s whaled their account somewhere else but it gets boring watching them disintegrate anything they touch. It removes any and all difficulty from the game so if they try to make any type of content related to beating a boss it would be silly because they just one shot it, how would they know how a regular person can beat it?

As someone who has enough resources to waste in games... the best way to remain ftp is to have 1 ftp account and one paid account.
I heard rerolling is a pain in this game so I'll probably just stick to what I get. Also really want to use Kong Fu Panda and I heard she was getting buffed in the release version, so that makes me even more excited.
I'm personally arranging my spending to go into WW instead if I actually enjoy the game. Kuro have gone above and beyond to listen to the players, so even if I can't single handedly finance the game, I'm giving 20-30 bucks for the first month.

Yeah, not much you can do. I will go with saving strategy as i do in genshin right now. Save up 120+ wishes before even trying to get something. My plan right now is to skip 2 banners and go for characters in next one. One being that i will lack resorces anyway to lvl them and second, new ones could just be more powerfull.

Great video Smack. I also had an odd/unpopular take on going f2p. I actually lowkey wish devs would put a donation option for f2p players that want to stay true to f2p experience, but still give support to their work. I've realized over the years of playing gacha games that when I've spent in games I've instantly felt remorse and would quickly drop game b/c it would become much less challenging as well as feel much less satisfying. I know Volkin has voiced this same paradox many times in the past. However I would still love the option to donate money to developers like Kuro (and Tourdog from Alchemy Stars in past) to support them for listening to player feedback and promote their game without reducing my f2p experience. Seems like a good solution to supporting devs while still maintaining "f2p btw.". Anyways thanks for the vid Smack, always love your off the beaten meta strats, cheers!

if you just wanna give money to the game and not get the advantages, just buy primos/gems or whatever the currency is in this game and not use it, buy 10,000 gigagems for example, then you get 1000 F2P gems, so you now got 11,000 gems, then just remember to always leave 10,000 in your account. just do that instead of having the devs implement a new feature just for you.
You can always buy in-game currency for other players. You'd make a ton of friends in the process too. A donation button would be seen as greedy anyway. A dev recently got blasted for suggesting people donate if they really liked their full price game.
You could literally just make another account and spend on it and not play. Boom, donation given. You could also support someone else who would want to spend but can't afford it for various reasons. If you're actually about what you claim...

It is just painful as a viewer to see CC with the same teams for ages.
The WORST thing is watching f2p players pass by multiple units because they're not "strong enough" or "sidegrades", or skipping good units because some extremely powerful unit is down the line.
Someone like Mtash being the "combat guy" skipping so many units in Genshin was ironic, especially since he overdid vertical investment.
Just stick to a copy of every limited unit and nothing else......like actually stick to it this time.

Building a charachter in wuwa takes 40 days, unless they made this better they are directly harming themselves by making it so nobody will want to pull for characters, they also do not have a stamina overcap.

I have seen alot of videos saying that u shud not be using ur corals(starglitter of Wuthering) and shud instead be saving them just to buy the cons of the limited 5 star characters. Instead what i believe is we shud be using them to get more limited wishes because that will allow us to get more characters and the more character we have that we like and enjoy playing with, the better the game experience going to be, so dont feel forced to buy cons just do what u think u will enjoy and have fun

I love the fact that 4 stars are how they are. First thing I saw about WUWA was all the characters and I couldn't distinguish the 5 stars except Jiyuan from the 4 stars.

I’m going with daily login and battlepass because is kind of a subscription and its appreciation for the game. Giving money to kuro is not bad folks. It helps them develop the game.
Bro I’ve seen some of these comments/replies and why are ppl so pissed about cc’s going F2P? Like they can play however they want to play plus you can go to other cc’s who do whale to give you info about the characters. Another thing is that F2P players will have more in depth knowledge on “how to beat this boss/enemy as a F2P” or “F2P build on (x) character”

Yes! Too many people are sleeping on Yuanwu. He's the fischl of this game, AND you get him for free. In every video i see about this game people are always complaining about field time this and field time that yet are completely OVERLOOKING the dude who does great damage OFF FIELD. Not to mention you get him for free like Xiangling from clearing the tower. He's definitely getting 100% built and invested in my account.

I only discovered this game 2-3 days ago, and the first gameplay I saw was of Chixia...At that point i decided i wanted to main her....And then every single video and every single tier list tells me no.
Now Im just torn lol.....She looks fun as hell, but now ya'll have me doubting my choices QQ :D. Shoulda just went in blind, like i did Genshin impact years ago!.

Play who you want how you want and have fun, Chixia is still totally viable, just not tier list or creator friendly from what I've seen so far.

Given my experience with Genshin, with WuWa I'll be F2P with the occasional Welkin purchase (Wuwa equivalent). Imo this the best way to enjoy the game.
Its not that shes a meta healer than can heal off field. She scales off attack, gives an attack buff and is the best support we're gonna have for a very long time.

Chixia & Sanhua are my favourites design wise so I'm just gonna go for them and figure out the rest later. As for spending, I'll probably buy the cheaper monthly/weekly deals if I feel like they're worth it, otherwise I'll just rock it F2P. I'll probably roll on Jiyan's banner because Chixia's on there; If I get him cool, if not no worries :)

Having been a forced F2P for most of my gaming life, these days, I'm pretty ok being a low spender at least, especially if the game's a lot of fun.
Coming from both Star Rail and PGR, I'm down to support Wuther Waves if I enjoy it as much as those two.

For people complaining about CCs going free to play - wait till you find out studios are usually paying THEM through sponsorships, not the other way around. Thinking a handful of CCs not whaling would make any financial difference to Kuro is way too simplistic, while advertising the game heavily as f2p friendly is actually a good strategy for drawing in tons of new players, most of whom will eventually spend.
Well, these CCs also influence lots of other players to be f2p

I’m usually f2p and what happens for me is that I end up 1 rerun behind the desired units I want. Like right now I’m saving for Ruan Mei and Acheron in HSR.
It's fine if CC's decide to become F2P. In a way, they're already helping the game by providing content, publicity and other promotional materials. On the other hand though, they earn money from doing this. They have a better financial capacity than most average players. And also, as CC's, it'd be great if they can get as many characters as they want, so they can have first hand experience with them, and then be able to provide more content like guides, for the community.
For me, Re-Rolling in gacha games like these is like cheating to yourself. (stupid analogy i know)
I don't reroll because even if i don't get the character i specifically want, at some point it will most likely have a good ending after a few patches.
Like i was fine as long as i didn't get Lingyang, and even if i did i would've just gone with it and see where fate brings me.
I got Encore. Had no intentions to get her but in the end im still a happy man, and I can still call myself lucky with that because she will benefit from a future fusion support.
Like i get that every Fusion character will benefit from a fusion support, but getting Encore means i can skip other fusion characters if I don't care about the meta too much.
Having 3 Dps' is pretty important for endgame and optimally one dps of every element.
Anyways just wanted to share my thoughts about rerolling, simply said: Just go with whatever you get because there will be a point in the future where you'll be glad to have gotten that character.
(This reminds me very much of Himeko; on launch ass but got meta ever since pure fiction)

Also f2p players are the foundation that keeps the games "alive" thus more people will spend money on it knowning its going to have an active community. Hell even f2p will become low spenders in the future.

I must say, this video helped me a lot in making up my mind. I haven't really watched a lot of gameplay videos, and it was helpful to get an opinion about the way the characters are played, what their pros and cons are, etc.
This being said, I think I have a very similiar way of thinking like Gacha Smack does when it comes to games like these. The only thing where I would noticeably differ, is the immediacy of my focus an glacial characters. I think this is a very enjoyable playstle, and while I do agree that the Ying-Yang girl, and the electro-teams are very much worth it, I must also say that I hate those loli-characters and I would only invest in our loli-healer with a lot of grudge. But I would feel that this becomes a "painful" necessity.
Encore, or whatever this girl is called, is the only 5-star that might convince me to go for a reroll. But that is also the pleasure (and pain) of being a F2P: no risk, no fun.
Just wait until he get Calcharo + Yinlin and start animation canceling with them. The tech hits hard but also hard to learn.
F2P means not doing character reviews unless you have access to the content creator server.

Im very ftp in gacha games but the ones I spend a lot of time in I like to spend a bit of money. Not for the rewards, but to support the game. Ill be spending a bit of money in Wuwa thats for sure
I was absolutely avoiding limited and standard 5 star DPS characters. I only got the females from the standard.

Will probably be a dolphin, like in any gacha game I want to play and support seriously. That being said, they can also make a lot of money with skins, so I hope they will deliver as well in that regard.

I love this list as it is so similar to mine, except I got Jiyan cause hes a powerful unit and goes with Mortifi, also Calcharo since Yinlin is coming and I wanna try them together & finally I absolutely love Aalto's kit and speed.
So far my 5* are: Jianxin(Got her before the selector), Verina(Selector), Calcharo (Selector) and Jiyan(Limited). I think It's good for a starting point.
because of my Honkai star rail journey I'm not too sure who I really want to invest in. The worry that I'll never use em again and be resource drained later scares me. Though I whale fairly hard in Honkai and I don't intend to in this game. The only one i'm gonna for sure invest in is Encore and maybe the girl with the black and white outfit. Everyone else is a big blank idk for me. Just depends who I get on the free 40 -50 pulls banner
