This is the perfect representation of a tabletop RPG group.
You have the Metagamer (Nathan) choosing the most efficient skills.
There's the Roleplayer (Julia) constantly in character.
There's the long suffering DM (Jacob) just trying to keep everything on the rails.
And then there's Karina, the type of player I like to call the Fuckbeast, who's only action when meeting a new NPC is "I roll to kiss them"
My last DM killed off his sister's character because she kept trying to befriend or train the animals/small enemies we met along the way. The final straw was when she decided to transform into a giant kobold and got fifteen small kobolds to defect from raiding the town to helping us fight the raiders. DM was not happy
Baylee Allred Honestly though, that's just a clever solution to get out of a very traditional setup for a fight. Sounds like the DM was just being stubborn.
@@cyndrift she originally had five on her side, and then got one of them to get the other ten to follow them. And she's done things similar to this in other campaigns. Like trying to tame wolves because she wanted dogs

They never did roll to forget, but I guess that's appropriate.

We had... an erotic zombie romcom mystery thing. It's sort of a general, exaggerated, southern US accent typically found in the Louisiana/Alabama/Georgia/Mississippi area. Probably closest to the southern "bayou" regions of Louisiana, which is the region where you find the Cajun english and french accents, as Sammie mentioned (FYI, "Cajun" refers to an ethnic group that was formed by the descendants of French-Canadians that colonized the southern region of Louisiana).

I would love to see this game played weekly or bi weekly or something, what a fun time! Good job jacob
nathan's character voice is simply delightful
I love this game! One suggestion I think you should have them roll a d12. Since it was 2d6 a lot of 6’s got rolled. A d12 could lead to more worse fails and more bigger successes
I think a big part of the reason they use d6 dice is to keep the game simple and easy to play for any group. Not everyone will have a d12, unless they already play a tabletop RPG, but pretty much everyone will have two six-sided dice laying around!
@@zigorously That being said, it's 2020 and everyone has access to a smartphone they can load an arbitrary-dice-rolling app on.
@@allankcrain Yeah, good point! Guess I kinda forgot that.

Petition for The Cute One's full name to be Damian WeebWolf.
As for game design feedback I feel the Five Tources Deep-esque abstract resources might be a bit unnecessary as the game is so freeform, collabrative and short already. Tho since it's used at the GM's discretion it won't hurt to keep the rules as is either, maybe for more dungeon-crawly/survival type plots.
Alternativly to get more use out of this rule you could give every PC a pool of them from the start as a limit of "stuff they have on them" to fill out as they play. So the gun, the deck of cards, the chloroform rag, etc. would use resources the first time they are used. But imo the game worked fine without such restrictions.
Idk, I kinda liked this whole setup, as seen in the stream. I think it's fun, as is. And it added to the chaos. Can't have chaos without order. Just so happens that they have chaotically employed the little order there was lol. No changes needed, imo.
@@jf2801 They never used the abstract resource mechanic in the stream tho. Jacob informed everyone about it, but didn't end up giving anyone any.
I've always been too nervous to DM, but I legit think I'm gonna try doing this. This was a really cool and fun idea.
This was the most amazing chaotic shit ever and I need more immediately. The whole time I was waiting for that cute one kiss and Karina gave me exactly what I wanted.
I HAVE to draw these characters... I love them all. I’m literally obsessed with this.
Game Design Opinion (non professional): The Roll system you are working with biases heavily to mixed success. If I heard right it goes 2-4 fail, 5-9 mixed, 10-12 success. That breaks down to 1/6 (about 17%) chance of failure. Same for success. And a 4/6 (67%) of mixed. There's nothing wrong with that, but it got a little monotonous, with very few successes and failures.
You could help with this by making successes and failures even more special. Or you could adjust the numbers. 2-5 fail (27% chance), 6-8 mixed (44% chance), 9-12 success (27% chance) might be a little spicier. Or use a different rolling system.
On the issue of remember/forget type mechanics, because the current system is symmetrical, there is no difference between a +1 to a skill and a -1 to its opposite. If you want to avoid this, but want to allow for improv silliness, just rule that you can't have skill opposites in the same game. Like you can have a sneaking skill in the game, or you could have a being unsneaky skill, but not both (because it just takes up a skill slot and doesn't actually do anything.
However, this could result in a situation where every player chooses positive skills for things they are good at, and negative skills for things they are bad at, skirting the system. So you could also rule that all skills must be phrased positively.
Self-defined skills: Julia's character has +2 to perform magic. This should mean that she is great at it, and other people are bad at in. In practicality, she has a 97% chance of mixed success or better, which is good, but the other two have an 83% chance of mixed success or better, making Julia's key feature a little less special.
My suggestion: Each character has one special skill and one special weakness. Essentially skills that only they have and which have a more high-risk-high-reward structure (like 2-7 fail, 8-11 mixed success, 12 success - no modifiers) . The players would also pick a general skill that they have +2 in that everyone else has -2 in, a +1 skill (neutral for everyone else) and -1 skill (neutal for everyone else). That's a bit convoluted so you could streamline it to 1 special skill, 1 +2 general skill, -2 general skill, and one special weekness. General skills go to all players.
GM then adds 4 general skills and the DM can assign bonuses to these skills to the group or individually as desired by the GM.
Those are my thoughts, maybe something in that mess will spark an actual good idea.
So like 3 skills and a "something only you can do"?
This was great. I’d love to see them do an episode off the back of these doing artwork, like the kissing scene or the final shot. Would look col
"whats something you're good at?"
"remembering"
"ok and whats something you're bad at?"
"...forgetting"

Also, I feel like this system works really well on its simplicity especially. I would love to see things like the resources and improving in skills come up more often, but I feel like we need to see more than one game to really get a feel for that.
I just noticed, Jacob runs his encounters so quickly! Everything new gets introduced, engaged, and resolved within 15 minutes or so, it's a really impressive pace for a roleplaying game!
Jacob's GMing is just really good in general imo
I'm not over it. I'm not over it. "You have my hat." "AND MY RAG." The finale
This team is good at improv AND bookending
As for design input I think the creation should be more like: genre->truth about the world->characters->truth about the world->location->truth about the world->world descriptor (spicy). This way the characters don't end up already knowing the "strange place they wake up in".
Example: Stage magician, a janitor, and a space marshal of the Space Titanic
It would still be possible for the strange place they awoke in be the Space Titanic if they were still a magician, janitor, and space marshal but wouldn't start with possible advantages like knowing the layout of the Ship, having their entire magicians kit in the green room, or having documents/keys to allow the free roaming of pretty much all areas.
It might be intentional though, along with having a "small" setting to allow them to quickly get into the game without the characters being completely lost when they wake up.
Nathan's character voice is an actual gem, and Im so delighted
this was so entertaining and cute. love the full commitment to animal people
Me and my friends did this, the character I came up with for this was Ætromal: The Darkened Vanguard, he was great at PUNCHING, good at carrying heavy stuff, bad at talking, horrible at dodging, he just stood there punching people getting stabbed over and over, and he was the only one to ever survive fights at over half health
