Not only did she blatantly accuse two Hispanic women (which is one of the biggest community's who's kidnapping/missing cases often go without care or are delt wrongly) but she also harmed and stereotyped a whole community! I feel so horrible for her children and husband who had to go through that traumatic experience just because she wanted to go with another man. I find it disgusting that she blamed 2 Latina women for her abduction when that’s one of the groups whose cases are often neglected & not given resources. This is beyond egregious. As far as her children seeing her be arrested, after what she put them through that’s nothing.
Yeah, she very easily could have not made a scene. She had the choice to go quietly but didn't. She's at fault for them seeing her get arrested.

Knowing he’s divorcing her and trying to get full custody of the kids, makes it hard for me to believed he was involved in anyway. That was his endgame? He could’ve done that without the whole kidnap story. I just think she’s a special level of insane. He needs to get those kids as far away from her as he can as fast as possible.

After 40 years and so many true crime and strange true stories I've concluded that people are just totally crazy and I've stopped trying to make sense of it all.
You know what I find the most disgusting about all of this... the amount of man power, and police effort and air time this FAKE kidnapping took away from people who are ACTUALLY missing! There are so many people who genuinely need this attention to help them be found. I hope she's enjoying all the attention she's getting now...

I actually think the husband was skeptical from the beginning (hence the awkward 911 call) but not part of it. Living with and being in love with a narcissist had him confused and maybe even brainwashed to an extent. He knew deep down there was a possibility that she could have run off with someone else. I think the insincerity that people are seeing in the husband is that doubt in the back of his own mind that is telling him she is capable of hurting him and his children, but he doesn’t necessarily want to paint her in that light to the public. I also have a feeling that when he made that initial call, he had no idea how big this was going to get or how far she was going to let this go until it was too late.
The fact that you literally redid the story to add the ending…. That’s a lot of work girly. Thank you for all you do!

Sherri sounds like an absolute nightmare person. The way she made her husband worry, leaving her kids behind, and the liberties she took after the fact are all just staggering to me. It's hard for me to even conceptualize the thought process behind everything she's done.

Have you covered Sherri’s old classmate’s story? Her name is Tera Smith, there were articles that stated the kidnapping that Sherri described is similar to what people believe happened to Tera. It is still a cold case to this day. I want to add that they were attending the same high school at the same time back when Tera went missing. Another reason I hate that Sherri faked her own kidnapping because someone close to her home actually went though this and she reopened those wounds to that poor family.

This was in my hometown, so many people were suspicious when this happened, I can't believe the truth finally came out.
I figured she had faked it, but what pisses me off the most is that the prosecutors said they will ask for the minimum sentencing of maybe 8 - 14 months. That is insane. Even more insane is that her husband is still with her. FFS how crazy is that.

I live in the same town as her and is crazy and sad that she got all this attention yet many here in our local native community have gone actually missing with no widespread coverage or anything to help. Nick Patterson for example has been missing for two years now yet there’s been barely any action taken. So many people especially natives and other minorities are so underrepresented and it’s sad to see people like Papini just get away with this when there are actual cases here

And there was another women that went missing around the same time and there was minimal coverage. Sherri got all the attention. I don’t know whatever happened with the other woman.

This really makes me mad! When I was a teenager I was taken from my home and assaulted. I immediately ran to a neighbor’s home and asked for help. They called the police and bc my reaction was not “normal” the police instantly said I was lying. They didn’t have me to go the hospital or anything to be examined. They even convinced my parents I was lying! All because I couldn’t remember anything that happened, what the men looked like, where they took me or anything. It was so horrible! It wasn’t until I was an adult and sought counseling that someone finally believed me. So, it’s jerks like this that make the police question a victim when we are telling the truth. Twenty years later and I am still traumatized not only by my sexual assault but by how I was treated by the cops when I was at my most vulnerable. No one should have to go through that trauma.

I will never forget this case! It happened in Redding and my sister lived very close to them. I was an hour away at the time but would go to Redding regularly. It caused so much anxiety in so many people I know.

The moment her own parents doubted her story, I felt pretty confident Sherry was lying. I held back my harsh opinion on her, because everyone seemed to support her, and believe her story. I feel absolutely horrible mostly for her husband and kids, they are going to have to deal with for years to come. I hope Keith finds comfort in his loved ones and is able to move forward with his life.

I intially believed the kidnapping story, but I am absolutely hearbroken by this update. The damage this has done to the Mexican community is horrific, and inexscuseable. I feel bad for her children because of the stress that they went through when she was gone for those three weeks, having to watch their mother be arrested, and now there's a good chance that she's going to jail. My heart goes out to those children because of how much upheaval they're dealing with and all that stress. It can't be good for them mentally or physically.

I was working in a local salon at the time and everyone was so freaked out after she “went missing” no one was to work alone or walk to the car alone. Every person was on edge after this. I remember on thanksgiving when she was “found” that’s when I first thought it was faked. Seemed too good to be true. And once she never really wanted to talk about the situation to maybe protect other women a lot of people started calling her a faker. If I was kidnapped and by the grace of God returned I’d be shouting from the rooftops on women protecting themselves while running or out walking in secluded areas.

Her speaking out could potentially STOP her “attacker” Redding is a pretty small town in comparison so people tend to look out for eachother. If she gave her whole story and it was legit many would vigilante in keeping an eye out. And I’m not talking she should have spoken out the second she came back but even years later when asked she wouldn’t talk. It’s very sketchy coming from a smaller town. Every female was terrified they would be next because it seemed so random. I get it if her attacker was real and still out there. But it’s so hard to say. I’d want every single person to be aware of WHO did it so it didn’t happen to anyone else and maybe they were not so lucky to have made it out alive, personally I couldn’t sleep at night if that were the case. I’m from Redding, CA originally and I lived off Old Oregon Trail having just had my first baby shortly after the release of this story. I remember being so afraid and saw the search team. In fact, they came to my door and I was so scared. All this for a hoax - absolutely infuriating and insane!

I actually don’t think the husband knew about it. If he did it would be shocking because the whole thing was an affair with her ex. What husband would be ok with their wife staying at an ex boyfriends house to have an affair while they’re alone with the kids who are obviously gonna be distressed and worried for their mother who’s suddenly absent from the home. I don’t know much about what the situation was with their relationship but I don’t think he was abusive or anything. I think he truly does care for her and the kids. I think he’s supporting her right now because he still cares about her after all that and doesn’t want to believe that she would do something like that. It’s actually kind of sad. I think he’s gonna have a rude awakening soon and sympathize with him
