Togo was forgotten in the story of Nome Trail, that was his last run, Balto when down to the history as the hero dog, but time put things in the right place, Togo a 12 years old dog did the impossible, he did the must danger part of the trail with a record of miles and time. again "12 year old dog". I hope to see and tribute that he deserves, of course with out taking any credit for Balto (if he deserve the credit ), Leonard Seppola knew that him and his dogs have a dead tread on this trail, this task need it to be done by the best of the best, 362 miles only can be done by a super Alpha dog with his stamina, Togo was the "Must Hero Dog" of all the time. RIP in the "Glory".... Togo

There are actually three dogs of Seppala's that majorly contributed to many accomplishments. Togo, Fritz, and Balto. Togo was deemed unacceptable as a pup due to a painful throat condition which ultimately stunted his growth. After attempts of rehoming had failed, Seppala finally gave him a chance. Togo then went on to become the greatest racing dog of all time and deserves way more credit in the Serum Run. Togo helped found a breed, Seppala Siberian Sleddogs. Balto was actually neutered at six months of age due to his hefty confirmation, he wasn't of typical racing build. So the pups that he produces in the cartoon films never existed. Fritz is very unwhelmed. Fritz co-led with Togo during the Serum Run of 1925, and was a half brother to Togo. Fritz went on to become a major contributing factor to the modern Siberian Husky breed that we know today.

It's funny how both Togo and Balto were Seppela's dogs and he deemed both unable to be lead dogs early on, these dogs proved a very accomplished musher wrong...I am unclear of his thoughts on Fox but feel badly Fox rarely gets mentioned... At the end of the day, I am so impressed with ALL of the dogs and mushers that did this run, it shows what teamwork under horrid conditions can accomplish...

@@mlaiuppa but before that, Seppala rehomed Togo as a pet dog at 6 months of age, because he didn’t think he’d be suitable as a sled dog. After a few weeks as a pet dog, Togo jumped through a window to run back to Seppala, which convinced him to give Togo another chance.

I know some dogs did more and less, but I think all the dogs Fritz, Blackey, Balto, and Togo, deserve credit. They all contributed. If one dog had died or gotten injured time would waste. If one of those dogs had gotten tired and stopped time would waste. And people would die. All the dogs, all of them, did their best. Every dog tried their very hardest. All the dogs were the best they could be.

If anyone retains interest in this awesome topic, I recommend the book, "The Cruelest Miles". It offers a lot of biographical information and photographs as to Diphtheria, Alaskan weather, Sled dogs, and Eskimo culture. Thank you so much for this lovely and informative video!!

From one hand: I think all sled dogs were a hero one by one. From other hand I can say, that to raise up only Balto is not fair and real. By based on the run miles and performance, Togo was the only one real Hero of the Serum run.

There’s a statue of Balto in Central Park. If they haven’t made a statue for Togo, they need to. Balto finished the serum run and got the antitoxin to Nome, but Togo ran the longest and most dangerous trail. He should get just as much credit as Balto.

D@mn, this just about made me cry, remembering that as a child one of my heros was Balto. I had the cartoon movie and a book about him, filled with beautiful illustrations. I not only knew about this little-known piece of history, but would have defended Balto till the very end. Now that I am an adult and have a more in-depth picture, I intend to continue to defend Balto till the end, but to also add Togo and those worthy others to the list as well. It is heart-warming hearing these mushers speak of the dogs as though they are people. They get every bit of credit and they most certainly deserve it!

They did a movie, the name of the movie es TOGO. Togo was a 12 years old Alpha dog with super stamina, he did 362 miles in the must danger part of the trail in record time, to bring serum for diphtheria of the Town of Nome, no other dog when further a way on record time than Togo, broke all records that no other dog
until today there could be done, the sad part it was that Nome trail was the last Togo trail, he never again did another lead trail, his effort and sacrifice took its toll, the other sad part
it was that his heroic performance that safe the childrens of Nome was forgotten and another trail dog (Balto) who just run last 30 miles of the relay race took the credit.

Maybe there was some intention of not giving credit to a Norwegian immigrant and his small kennel business ... Who knows, the only thing that is certain is a distortion in the story and the truth. @@dabell12 Ah maybe you are rigjt. If you watched Togo movie (it's just released December 2019) at the end when the journalist asked what is the name of the dog, the owner said it was Fox (the sledge was lead by Fox and Bolton). But then the journalist said " Oh people will think it's lead by a real fox. What is the other dog name?" And he said "Bolton". Ah yeah. That's better.
Maybe in implicit it tells something why Togo didn't deserve the fame and reward at the first place. But now people all know the truth. Run Togo run! 💖
