I'm with you I remember being at Family toy Warehouse with my dad and he asked me if I would rather have the Mega Man 4 or my pick of five Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures with the pizza van for my 10th birthday i think and I got the Mega Man 4.
Such good memories of this game around Christmastime. I was 4 or 5 and my parents rented it for us. I remember getting to the next to last wily stage and they had to take it back to blockbuster. We were so distraught and cried as they made us turn it off while we almost beat wily
For me, this was one of the hardest of the early Megaman games. But it's still to this day, a solid and timeless game. This game really left an impression on me. An impression that is still felt to this day many years later.

Mega Man 4 is perhaps the last great 8-bit Mega Man game. While the series was starting to feel a bit stagnant at this point, 4 still retained the spark from the first three and added some worthwhile improvements. For me personally, it's the best overall game in the series after 3, though just slightly better than 2!
6 is good to me I consider 1 and 5 to have major flaws that keep them from being some of the best nes games... 1 really hasn't aged well, and 5's buster is broken and the weapons suck... 2, 3, 4 and 6 are all balanced in terms of quality, weapons and ALL their music is GREAT!!!
Mega Man 5 was the first of the series that I feel the box art lived up to the actual in game graphics. Everything else had felt disconnected from the art style that was used in the sprites.
Man, my dad bought me this game back in 89. Fast-forward 33 years, I just got it (got a nintendo switch with classic nes controllers) and the sweet memories playing this came back. I used to be an expert of this game but I am soooo rusty. I am so baffled how well you remember it. Thank you for the Playthrough. I assume you are also using a nintendo switch for this.

Mega Man 5 was solid and widely known as the most valuable, but 3, 4, and 6 to me are the best in regards to overall soundtrack, gameplay, and nostalgia. In order, 3, 4, 6, 5 (close behind six), 2, 1 IMO.
Mega Man 4 in my opinion is definitely the best of the 6. Physics, stage variety, Flip Top Eddie, the challenge, the weapons. This game really nailed everything that makes a good Mega Man game, except for the music, which I think is just okay. MM2 has the best music of the NES series imo, but that doesn't make it the best for me. MM1 definitely felt like a first game and was basic, MM2 feels overrated to me despite being a step up from 1. 2 had long stretches of land, and not enough happening to entirely captivate me, but had great music, a fun weapon, and memorable moments. 3 from the start is pretty enjoyable, I love the stages and music, but has its flaws (the lag and Doc Robots bloating the game, plus the easy Wily Castle stages), MM5 and 6 felt rather uninspired although they did have good qualities and are refined. I'd say I'd rank the games like this, 4, 3, 5, 2, 6, 1

You'd have a lot less trouble with Bright Man if you shoot him once with a regular buster shot, and then switch to the rain flush. It bypasses the hardcoded triggers for his flash stopper so the fight becomes much easier.

Megaman 4 was a fantastic game. Not insanely difficult but also not easy. It was the last game in the series to have good music and cool bad guys. The first 4 will always be "NES hall of fame status" in my book.
The robot masters' weaknesses for this game explained: Toad Man - Drill Bomb, because real life animals hate bombs and explosives making them run away. Bright Man - Rain Flush, splashing any electrical devices with water will short circuit it. Pharaoh Man - Flash Stopper, because he's shut for ages he cannot stand bright light. Ring Man - Pharaoh Shot. The Pharaoh Shot is powered by sun and intense heat will melt any metal. Dust Man - Ring Boomerang. The Ring Boomerang can jam Dust Man's vacuum head similar to the case of Air Man with Leaf Shield. Skull Man - Dust Crusher because bones turn into dust as time passes. Dive Man - Skull Barrier because submarines don't like getting sunk into the abyss. For him, skull means death. Another reason for that is, Skull is the symbol of pirates aka the mortal enemy of marines which Dive Man represents. Drill Man - Dive Missile because it's a heat sensing missile.
Don't know if anyone has already mentioned it, but you missed an E tank. In Cossack stage 1 at the very beginning, if you walk all the way to the left in the snow, there's an E tank.

Mega Man 4 is where Mega Man fights Doctor Cossack and eight new Robot Masters that Cossack created (Bright Man, Dive Man, Dust Man, Pharaoh Man, Ring Man, Toad Man, Drill Man, and Skull Man, numbered 25-32 because there are 24 others before them in the first game). It’s where Mega Man got the newly-improved Mega Buster, where he charges the Mega Buster to create a more powerful blast. It's also where we first meet that little red robot with two legs and an opening head named Eddie. I believe that after MM4’s Robot Masters were created, Wily stole and mind-controlled them. After Mega Man defeated all eight of these RMs, he freed them from Wily’s mind-control, and then Doctor Light adopted these new RMs as his new sons. They are doing jobs (I can say the same to the RMs from the first three games) while working for Cossack, who is not evil. He was just forced by Wily to do evil things. Boy, I want a remake that has the same graphics and bonus stuff as Mega Man 11. And/or, a 3-D action-adventure remake/version that does all this, and the 3-D part would be like Kirby and the Forgotten Land in 2022 rather than Mega Man X7 (that game was weird).🙏 Dive Man is my favorite in MM4.

In Megaman 4 they gave the game their all, it improves all the aspects and innovates on the previous games. After that the innovation ended.

My godmother bought this game for me when I was young. There are so many memories of playing it. It was the 1st Megaman game I owned.

I played MM4, but forgot that Drill Man was just Crash Man plus burrowing under rock during your fight with him. I liked Crash Man more. =/
