I think there’s less tension in this one because we already know he is truly a killer, while in the first one the very last scene is so shocking it changes your opinion on everything that happened before, as a lot of it was actually very funny. This time the tension is still high because it’s always more disturbing when the victim is a woman (they actually address the gender thing) but it’s also less tense because Sarah is into it and invites the madness with open arms, until she understands she’s really in danger at the end.

idk sara was kind of smart for acting non chalant as possible you know besides her decision to stay for longer, her acting like that is kind of playing mind games with aaron too which in a way worked
I love this movie because it relies so much on the growing tension that leaves you on a knife's edge. There is the feeling for being too far down the hallway without being able to see the monster around the corner. Excellent directing and acting. This was the beginning of the end of the torture porn/jump scare trend from the early and mid 2000s and going back to the traditional horror. While I liked the first one, the second one had a much more interesting dynamic between the two characters. I’ve never seen a film where the killer straight up tells the lead they are a serial killer and have murdered 39 people, then shows them videos and the lead is just like, “oh wow, that’s interesting” and decides to make a documentary with him. I felt like this film was a little less scary, but a lot more deep and interesting. And as always, Mark Duplass is equal parts terrifying and hilarious.

Mark Duplass is one of my favorite directors of all time after seeing his film Blue Jay on Netflix (costarring THE Sarah THE Paulson 😌) and a few of his other HBO projects, but I've not been able to work up the guts to watch these movies on my own, so I'm so grateful for you doing this so I can watch them through you in relative peace LOL.

I love this movie because it relies so much on the growing tension that leaves you on a knife's edge. There is the feeling for being too far down the hallway without being able to see the monster around the corner. Excellent directing and acting. This was the beginning of the end of the torture porn/jump scare trend from the early and mid 2000s and going back to the traditional horror. Hopefully RUclips can pay for your therapy 🙏 As always, you make me live for Fridays!!! Wishing peace and love
While I liked the first one, the second one had a much more interesting dynamic between the two characters. I’ve never seen a film where the killer straight up tells the lead they are a serial killer and have murdered 39 people, then shows them videos and the lead is just like, “oh wow, that’s interesting” and decides to make a documentary with him. I felt like this film was a little less scary, but a lot more deep and interesting. And as always, Mark Duplass is equal parts terrifying and hilarious.

The thing about the Hell House trilogy is that it was planned as a trilogy from the beginning and not as a single movie and then they made the other two as a cash grab, so the story actually makes sense and resolves correctly as a trilogy.
