This video covers the pick slanting solution very well. So many people are inherently downward picks slanters, and wonder why they can't economy pick descending as well, and don't know it's because they're still downward pick slanting instead of upward pick slanting.
I fixed this problem for myself by at first by exaggerating the slanting and then slowly holding the pick more and more perpendicular to find that sweet spot.

I’ve always thought the hardest part about economy picking wasn’t the picking itself (which does take a bit of practice) but the left hand fingering with new shapes and patterns for familiar sounds.
