Just some feedback. Feel the video could have been done differently. You have everyone thinking that the Lowe's/Home Depot/Trader Joe's VFTs are the better options than some of the more expensive ones 🤦🏻 typicals are cool but there is so much more out there
I would say 99 dorror is the biggest difference between them.

It depends honestly. If you're just getting one because you only care about the bug eating part then that makes sense! If you're a collector/gardener (like me) then those others are the ones we want. They usually look the best and are very much worth the effort 😁 and as you saw there are some that look so cool and still eating bugs and whatnot fine!
Example - Dionaea m. "Witchy Baby" is $149.99 and gets HUGE traps and still catches bugs

Missed opportunity- EA SPORES- the plants aren't tame 😎
I have never before seen such an obvious example of cost not reflecting quality. People are essentially paying out the ass for a sickly flytrap that will struggle to survive vs a cool voracious and beautiful plant that will thrive. I see absolutely zero appeal in these "rare" variants who don't even really seem to have interesting colors. They literally just look sick.
So you’re basically trowing money on decoration if you buy the other Venus flytrap instead of the one dollar Venus flytrap 💀

Big scam, the cheapest one is literally the one who eats the most bugs
Jokes on you, most are actually 10 bucks
How is it a scam? You know what you’re buying. It’s not like it’s being hidden from you that it doesn’t eat bugs. And some people have them for decoration. Your the kind of person to call people who grow huge plants a total waste since most of the food isn’t edible but really their growing them to enter into competitions and such.
No it's not. The price point isn't for general consumers lol it's for hobbyists. Those of us who do this all the time, and collect this plants for our gardens and stuff are the ones buying these lol We know what we are doing and getting. Expensive ones are usually more rare, harder to take care of and usually look so much cooler than that typical VFT. Very much worth their price points
Example - Dionaea m. "Witchy Baby" is $149.99 and gets HUGE traps and still catches bugs
@@nathanpfirman625why would I waste valuable 100 dollars for a DECORATION?
Am not gonna spend money just to have a useless plant lying around and what if their not growing it for a competition?
✓
that just means you’re not the target consumer lol, no ones saying you have to want to buy it just bc its worth more. its just the same as in the reefkeeping hobby, the most expensive corals are usually the finicky, sensitive, slow growing animal, not in spite of - but *because* they’re difficult and rare, and collectors and enthusiasts want to try their hand at keeping them. all hobbies are a little useless, that’s the point of a hobby. it’s for your own enrichment
The $1 flytrap is better than any of them💀
How can i buy?
Ah yes, the 50 dollar one is basically the plant equivalent of a pug

Never thought about buying a Venus flytrap, but thank you for letting me know that the cheapest are the best.
What i learned from this video is that i should buy the 1 dollar flytrap for 2 reasons.
1, i don't have more than 3 dollars.
2, it's cool
3, it does what its name implies
Lesson of the day: more expensive doesn't mean better
Pay more for less apparently
Mr Plant back at it again!
The $1 is the better deal! It even comes with a sundew.
Usually the more expensive something is the higher the quality, but these just seem to get worse as the prices get worse
It's lile that with plants.
The more a plant costs, the rarer it is, meaning it's harder to care for and propagate.
For one buck you can get a flytrap that eats bugs
Fifty times that, and you get a venus flytrap that doesn't eat bugs. Unfortunately, any plant does that too
The 1 dollar one is the strongest lol
I've never seen a timelapse of a Venus fly trap before, so cool!😊

So essentially the cheap fly trap catches the most bugs, but the expensive ones look the best
Yep pretty much how it is with carnivorous plants. The cheap ones are usually easier to take care of and will actually catch bugs, while the expensive ones are hard to keep and will most likely never catch a bug naturally. Most of time they’re in special temperature controlled environments and are sealed away so bugs can’t enter, pests can easily eat plants worth $100-1000s
Never knew venus flytrap is like a tycoon game
To everyone saying the one dollar one is better. Yes, it catches bugs, but professional growers and collectors seek different flytraps. These flytraps are bred to have unique characteristics that others don’t. They are rare specimens that have genetic mutations that are then cloned so that the clones have the same genetics of the main plant. This is why they are expensive. They have to be cloned and make their way into cultivation before being sold to the public, and more clones or “cultivars” (cultivated varieties), are still being produced today.
Make sure you are buying ethically sourced Venus Fly traps (AKA Medow Clams). If you find someone selling them along the road side or at a farmers market ask them how they got them. If they are not propagated then they are illegally poached. Yes, these plants in the native environment are federally protected. If you have found someone illegally selling, report them to the local authorities. They are harming our native environment.
Naa daawg snitches get stitches

Basically: The more expensive ones are just decorative, which in some ways is typical for plants
They are iconic plants. No way a standard venus fly trap would be sold for 1 dollar. I find it doubtful the other prizes are right.
So expensive get useless
Bro proformed an domain expansion at the end 💀
So, the more you pay, the worse flytrap you get? Those higher price ones look like the plant version of a malnourished chihuahua.
Wow, I can't stop laughing at this... the plant version of a malnourished Chihuahua😂
This is a great example of how humans would rather have pets that look good and/or are rare than pets that are healthy.
So basically more expensive = a more crippling disabled Flytrap.
That Timelapse at the end was sick
"sometimes what's more expensive, is worse"
Tip for everyone buying these: the traps can only close a limited amount of times before they die. SOOO: never stick your finger in it just to 'see it close', that costs the plant so much energy while getting zero nutrition. Just some advice :)
I have the $1 VFT but it was actually $10. It has grown beautiful flowers (I usually cut them off so the leaves or traps can grow bigger) and is so red from the lights I use. They're great to have around because they actually catch the little window flies during the summer.
The $1 venus flytrap has a sundew just chilling with it
This backfired hard... I dont know who in the advertisement team thought it would be a good idea to make this comparison
The fly trap time lapse makes me feel things lol
1 dollar venus flytrap work for you, but for 50 dollar you work for venus flytrap
>buy a Venus flytrap >take a closer look >can't trap flies
Bro the $1 one actually seems like the best option😅
Everyone says cheaper is better, but thats not true. There are many different cultivars out there. Some are grown for their hardiness and massive growth. Some also grow 2 times the size and 2 times as quick as typicals.
Do $1 vs $100 of PCP next !
"i am not your plant, i am the ghost"🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥
I mean what is the fun of it if they’re not going to murder some bugs? lol
Recently I bought my first sundew and pitcher plants. The obsession has begun…
They all look good but the 1$ one is functional and fashionable so the choice is clear imo
That value scale is backward. "In my pocket. Here's a hand drawing for a thousand." 😂
Moral of the story: Somethings value doesn’t always equal it’s cost or, more expensive doesn’t always mean better
If you want a much easier to grow bug eating plant look at american pitcher plants (sarracenia). They come in all sorts of amazing hybrids (check out the variety called "judith hindle") and they are super easy to grow. They're basically the opposite of most plants and want to have their soil waterlogged at all times (they are swamp plants). The only thing you have to worry about is to NEVER fertilize them, make sure they are planted in a 100% peat/sand mix and keep the pot in a tray of of water. I find it's easiest to just put their pot in a larger container of water and keep the water close to the soil line so I only have to refill it once a week or so. They're can be left outside full time in most places (as long as the soil doesn't freeze they're even fine being snowed on) and they love full sun. They are one of the toughest hardiest plants so long as you always meet the basic requirement of waterlogged soil. (note that they die completely back in very cold climates and regrow the next year)
A timelapse of venus fly traps growing seriously looks like a devil emerging from hell using only mouths and nerves to travel. Terrifying as hell to me.
I can't be the only person who grew up thinking fly traps were a bigger problem than they actually are lol like, they are tiny compared to how i used to envision them
That's not a venus flytrap, That's a Dark Souls boss.
I live in NC they grow naturally on the coast
The 1$ ones are way cooler than the other ones
I would rather have the 1$ flytrap

Same thing as "designer dogs"; when you pay an exorbitant amount for a special version of something, it isnt always better than the cheap version. Rescue dogs/mutts are the better choice! In this case, unless you just want a collection of fancy plants, the cheap plant is the way to go!
