Ten years, 2.5 campaigns, endless specials, oneshots and events later... I don't know if this is the biggest career move any of these guys have ever made or not, but i never heard of any of them before CR.
A friend of mine is really big on anime and he knows them and thinks they're rockstars... and he's not watched a single episode of CR. So, maybe they were big, regardless. 🤷🏻♀️ But, yeah, me too. I'd never heard of them before I started watching.
@@eran5005 You’ve never heard of them because they’re voice actors and no one knows voice actors. Doesn’t mean they’re not still super good at what they do but yeah
Funny enough, I was just reading CritRole Stats because we are off this Thursday and I was thinking about Fresh Cut Grass's origin. Did Liam play a role in FCG design? Then this classic video appeared. What are the odds.
Also his name: Scanlan. He did not come up with that himself, that came from a random D&D name generator. So Sam, or Samuel Brent Oscar Riegel, as is his real Percy´esk name. Did virtually nothing to build the Scanlan character that came to be a legend...
And it shows how Scanlan made Sam grow as a player... From starting with the "worst" character to exploring some really serious issues and being totally clutch in so many important moments!
Awesome. I've heard them talking about this before, but I didn't realize it was this loose. Sam and Liam was just spitballing and two minutes later, Sam's already decided to be a gnome bard. :D
Wow, through campaign 1, caught up on 2 (End of 2022) and about 9 episodes in campaign 2. I heard Sam was told gnome bard was the worst combo and ran with it but didn’t know how deep this ran. Thanks for posting this “story”.
absolutely incredible that this would be the campaign to come would be animated into a fucking awesome show that's finally getting its' second season. just, wow.

I first thought this was a joke and they were being sarcastic, then it started going on way too long and I looked at the date. Was this actually what happened? I know Liam picked Sam's class and race for him, but I didn't think the podcast had been going on this long I thought they started it after critical role. Are they joking?
Nope! This is 100% true. The silly podcast where they aimed to do something fun each episode is a massive contributing factor to why Liam finally said Yes and allowed Mat to run a game for his birthday 10 years ago!
@@bmas44 the original podcast was very old, but there wasn't too many episodes as they ended up being quite infrequent/inconsistent with recording it and uploading it. once critical role became it's own company the two of them decided to revive it and turned it into an actual show for the platform which might be what you've heard of, but yeah the original version of it was pre-cr!

When innocent suggestions become law
12 years later.
"I wanna be the worst, what's the worst?" Little did he know...
The irony is that being "the worst" led to Scanlan's insecurities about being taken for granted and the infamous "What's my mother's name" scene.
"I feel like we're in a fight right now."
"We *are* bitch!"
