I haven't been abroad much but when I have, it does make me realize how much bigger our portion sizes are here in the States and explains why we have a stereotype of everyone being obese. It also doesn't help that frying is a big thing and our regional foods like gumbo and jambalaya in Louisiana or Tex-Mex here in Texas tend to be pretty high-calorie.

The UK McDonald's small size drinks are the US McDonald's kids' size drink. With that said their (UK) medium and large are our (US) small and medium. The US large is simply an extra large anywhere else.
Lauren here 🇬🇧 I’m a slight McDonald’s addict oh no 😬 promise I’ll try to cut down 😂😂😂 are there any special McDonald’s menu items from your countries?
For anyone who doesn’t know. Fast food places in the US have to list ALL of their ingredients by their actual scientific names. So a lot of those "unnecessary" "weird" things are just the scientific names of "regular" ingredients. Also the drinks in the US are abt 75% ice 25% actual drink.
I was thinking about this. I'm curious about the laws in other countries when it comes to displaying food ingredients. I have no doubt that the US has more ingredients, and potentially more dangerous ones. However, I wonder if it's similar to the Florida-man phenomenon; in which Florida seems much crazier than other states because its laws require its crimes to be more "visible" compared to the rest of the US.
To be honest, they really aren't more strict. In the UK if you ask for a list of ingredients they must state every single one of them, including individual food colourings, preservatives, etc (they can't just say "mixed herbs" for example). The reason the list is shorter is because the UK (and EU) bans about 40% of the preservatives and colourings the US uses in foods as they are known health hazards. Hell US chicken (other meats are highly restricted) for example is banned in the UK & EU because the animals themselves don't meet the safety requirements for import (the use of most steroids in farming is banned), and if they were allowed in the UK, the steroids would need to be listed on the menu too (in the US they aren't).
A major factor in the differences in sizes of the drinks between the USA and UK is ice. We use ice in our drinks, which takes up space in the cup. I would bet the amount of the actual drink itself is more equal than the visual comparison.
In hawaii they serve spam or portuguese sausage w' egg, shoyu and rice & also saimin noodles w' kamaboku, char sui and nori. Some stores are really clean and the service is great, yet there are other locations that are filthy and the service sucks. Most locations are somewhere in the middle zone.

The "exclusivity" of the American McDonalds foods is only true IF you don't live in a rural area. The McDonalds where I live, basically where there are more cows than people in Texas, doesn't get any of the "special" promotions or items UNLESS it's SO successful that they can justify giving it to the rural places.
I’m American and I don’t like McDonald’s food in any country. I mainly associate it with kids because a lot of parents buy it for their kids. Adults tend to lean towards Chic Fil A and Popeyes are far as fast food places where I live. Plus people where I live eat at a lot at sit down restaurants because we eat a lot of our own cultural food.
Is there any research on whether preservatives actually Contribute to ill-health. There are strict regulations from the EU, which prevent GM foods and specific chemicals e.g. additives and preservatives, but If the preservatives, In particula don''t actually have proven ill effects, it's better in cost/benefit, to have them
I remember my uncle visited me from the US and when he ordered he was like tf, this is a rip off 😂 and I was like what do you mean? Do they add more food in the US? 😂
Without beef, there is no purpose in eating the food over there. (Yes, I am aware of India's cultural opinion of beef and pork, but it is absolutely wrong.) Beef and pork is the best are two of the best food sources on the world.
Everyone trying to be healthy be like Day 1: Today im only going to eat healthy foods from now on Day 2: I am trying to resist the urge on eating this 700 cal milkshake Day 3: Ok i am now eating a whole mcdonalds menu with burger pizza with tacos
you might think all those additives and preservatives are bad, but they're really not. and many of them actually boost the nutritional value of the food, but because those ingredient lists are written according to specific regulations, and the vast majority of people don't know how to read chemical names (by which I mean, break down the parts of a chemical name to understand the molecule described) or what "hydrogenated" means, let alone which of those are good, bad, or neutral.
As a chemist I encourage you to look up the common additives to understand their purpose and hazards. Most the hate is from people who don’t know what the components are but just because you don’t know doesn’t mean it’s bad. I could list the chemical composition of an animal or plant in words you wouldn’t understand. Of course some additives are bad for you as are some natural products, so you should educate yourself.
@@nixonmalasi8982 clearly there’s junk food out there, but a food isn’t junk just because you can’t pronounce an ingredient. That’s just faulty logic. Cholesterol is a naturally occurring chemical that can be bad for you if you eat too much, for example.Sodium lauryl sulfate is just soap, which most would agree is positive for human health. Look on a cereal label for the chemical name of the B vitamins. Lots of examples where some education before judgment is appropriate
@@chemquests sir, processed food..is poison. The rest of your statement is just filler. Obesity, diabetes and the rest is what you'd call observable evidence but your love for the stars & stripes probably won't let you see the fat people walking by you at Walmart. Don't take my statements personally & you won't feel offended.
It would help, especially as Americans, and I am one, tend to have a dismal science education for the most part, if the chemical names had a more common name people could understand.
I did not realize just how much exclusivity there was for US McDonalds goers. I will say that I agree that Vegan or meat alternative options are at more places nowadays
Maccas in Australia has so many options and are much healthier than the US. We even have a full café in our McDonald’s. That so called exclusively US McDonald’s stuff looks a lot less exclusive compared to what is in Australia so I am calling BS on that…
Exclusive in the video they’re watching doesn’t mean Exclusive in their country It just means “What the U.K. Doesn’t have that’s in the U.S. ” and vice versa
Me I don't do McDonald's, hell no and no way. And this is just my opinion. And for other people it's to each their own. Me I prefer healthy foods. Home grown. Home raised. As in: Meats, Milk, Cheese, Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts, Grains, Breads, and so on and so forth. But then again I prefer to raise, grow, and make my own. And I like a lot of Meat, Milk, and etc, also I don't do pork of any kind except for bacon and that's very very very rare. I prefer other types of bacon, like turkey. My family and I we just prefer doing our own thing, especially because most of us are allergic to a lot of the foods. There's one of us allergic to eggs, caffeine, chocolate, any types of corn, and that includes things like corn chips, corn meal, corn syrup and etc, also MSG. Then another is allergic to any type of melon, it doesn't matter which one they can't eat it. They are also allergic to most of the vaccines and shots that are out there. Then another one is allergic to Store bought Cows Milk, and Soy Milk, so we kind of have to raise, grow, and make our own things. So my sister that is allergic to the soy milk and store bought milk, can have goat's milk, and also home raised cow's milk, but not the processed or milk.
This episode is a touch out of date, since then the "Buttermilk chicken sandwich" isn't there, there's the "Mcchicken" and the "Crispy Chicken sandwich". Also there are multiple restaurants where the UK ingredients list has a bunch of additives, or some where the US size isn't that much larger.
Vegetarian and Vegan fast food isn't big in the US because of corporate greed. The prices are deliberately kept high, so its never economically viable. Even when the ingredients are significantly cheaper than meat, its more (sometimes a LOT more) expensive. Not just fast food, but supermarket food too. For example, recently Perdue, the biggest chicken manufacturer, introduced a half chicken half vegetable thing shaped into a tater tot shape and marketed as a healthier alternative to nuggets. The price of ingredients, because its half vegetables, should be WAY cheaper than an equal amount of chicken nuggets. But instead, it's almost double the price for the same weight. This is all intentional. The meat producers have huge power and lean on the rest of the food industry to demolish any chance of meatless or even meat-light foods being competitive.
Portion size, calories and most importantly so many chemicals. I watched that original video years ago. It literally felt like the ingredients in the fries are more in number than a shampoo's ingredients. Forget about coke size, even a small fries also contain lots lots lots of chemicals which I personally feel is worse than sugar. This is sad!

The veggie food in McDonald's is super industrial / lab-made and research shows that it's not healthier than meat consumption on a regular basis for information guys, the veggie steaks you'll find in supermarkets are the same. I do eat them on a non-regular basis though like a lot of people, for the environment. Just don't think it's healthier please.
I always think it's funny how people are so shocked in these videos because they're the exact, generally, kind of people who wouldn't eat as much as the stereotypical American does.

The McDonalds where I live, basically where there are more cows than people in Texas, doesn't get any of the "special" promotions or items UNLESS it's SO successful that they can justify giving it to the rural places.
Lauren make this team great.come on lauren 🏴
I was thinking "Ha ! I never eat Mc Donalds". Then i remember i just eat some KFC ...
I may have to stop that too ...
Where are these filmed?
These girls work for an acting studio in Seoul, South Korea. According their profiles.
You must be from the south
I recently went to the US for the first time and while US McD >>>> UK McD in terms of menu size but UK McD >>>>>> US McD in terms of taste.
Everytime they say hello I think of the teletubbies.
I'm rather surprised Apple pie is n/a in UK Mcdonalds, I thought that was a global thing haha
Uk do have apple pies am from the uk
Is there any research on whether preservatives actually Contribute to ill-health. There are strict regulations from the EU, which prevent GM foods and specific chemicals e.g. additives and preservatives, but If the preservatives, In particula don''t actually have proven ill effects, it's better in cost/benefit, to have them
840kc american milshake? I'm shocking
Amerika 😬
You're creative keep going✨✨✨✨✨..
Sender:your brother (Baraa) from Palestine
🇵🇸🇺🇲
In Canada we have double Big Macs.
I looooooved McDonald's when I lived in Spain. Perfect drunk food... But in the states, I will never eat it because I know about all that extra shit.
I remember my uncle visited me from the US and when he ordered he was like tf, this is a rip off 😂 and I was like what do you mean? Do they add more food in the US? 😂
It's just true that US portion sizes are much larger in general for food.
Good to see Lauren from the UK .
Indian McD is pretty good - no beef, veggie options
Without beef, there is no purpose in eating the food over there. (Yes, I am aware of India's cultural opinion of beef and pork, but it is absolutely wrong.) Beef and pork is the best are two of the best food sources on the world.
Everyone trying to be healthy be like
Day 1: Today im only going to eat healthy foods from now on
Day 2: I am trying to resist the urge on eating this 700 cal milkshake
Day 3: Ok i am now eating a whole mcdonalds menu with burger pizza with tacos
Awesome video ! McDonald’s in America is completely different compared to the rest of the world
1:10 Yes never disrespect Singapore mcdonalds. Dont forget the butter milk crispy chicken that is a staple Menu item in singapore
They should try Indian mcdonalds. I think they will find a veg option of many things.
The Indian Mac Ds have the highest number of vegetarian menu.
Awesome
You should try Mickey D's in Southeast Asia. They serve rice instead of bread with fried chicken.
no problem if we eat them a few times a year. 🍟😀
What abt the supersizing yall forgot that 😂😂
you might think all those additives and preservatives are bad, but they're really not. and many of them actually boost the nutritional value of the food, but because those ingredient lists are written according to specific regulations, and the vast majority of people don't know how to read chemical names (by which I mean, break down the parts of a chemical name to understand the molecule described) or what "hydrogenated" means, let alone which of those are good, bad, or neutral.
the issue is not only about if they are good or bad but are all those additives necessary ? Asking the question is already answering i guess
4:01 what does this even mean?
But does the US have Creme Egg McFlurrys?
As a chemist I encourage you to look up the common additives to understand their purpose and hazards. Most the hate is from people who don’t know what the components are but just because you don’t know doesn’t mean it’s bad. I could list the chemical composition of an animal or plant in words you wouldn’t understand. Of course some additives are bad for you as are some natural products, so you should educate yourself.
No education needed.. poison is poison, hence the term junk food.
The impossible whopper would make me throw up.
8:00 What! Vegan fried chicken? WTH 😂
Good thing i only eat fast food once a week
I did not realize just how much exclusivity there was for US McDonalds goers. I will say that I agree that Vegan or meat alternative options are at more places nowadays
Recall when McDonalds cooked fries in beef tallow .
Ahora entiendo porque en los estados unidos sufren de obesidad extrema 😧
In Canada, we have sizes of UK and ingredients of US. 😬
Maccas in Australia has so many options and are much healthier than the US. We even have a full café in our McDonald’s. That so called exclusively US McDonald’s stuff looks a lot less exclusive compared to what is in Australia so I am calling BS on that…
Exclusive in the video they’re watching doesn’t mean Exclusive in their country
It just means “What the U.K. Doesn’t have that’s in the U.S. ” and vice versa
American drinks are loaded with ice so you’re probably getting the same amount of soda.
Me I don't do McDonald's, hell no and no way. And this is just my opinion.
And for other people it's to each their own.
Me I prefer healthy foods.
Home grown.
Home raised.
As in:
Meats, Milk, Cheese, Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts, Grains, Breads, and so on and so forth.
You should do the same with kfc
I live in the UK but I've tried the McDonald's and KFCs from many different countries and I can say that the UK taste is the worst.
The US is the only first world nation where food that's healthy, and not necessarily vegan or organic, is more expensive than junk food.
Add Iran please
Do the Burger King next!
Christina is so beautiful
Unfortunately she's got boyfriend 😕
I don't like how you guys don't credit the creators of some videos.
For example, on the French accent video, you didn't credit Mr. Loic Suberville.
Now, in this, you didn't credit Food Insider.
Please do it or else you can get copyrighted.
Yeay
The veggie food in McDonald's is super industrial / lab-made and research shows that it's not healthier than meat consumption on a regular basis for information guys, the veggie steaks you'll find in supermarkets are the same. I do eat them on a non-regular basis though like a lot of people, for the environment. Just don't think it's healthier please.
When synthetic meat is perfected, that should fix it.
I always think it's funny how people are so shocked in these videos because they're the exact, generally, kind of people who wouldn't eat as much as the stereotypical American does.
Almost everyone lies about not eating fast food. At least Lauren was honest.
That's becoming less true with younger generations of people who are starting to not eat meat and push/fight for organic and vegan food in the US.
I don’t care if U.K is heathy. I want MERCA food
MURICA🇺🇲 😄 There is also healthy food in US
More Cali
did they do KFC yet? KFC America is terrible. I don't even know how they stay operational in the U.S.. In Iceland, at least, we have the Zinger tower burger (chicken burger with hashbrowns and spicy salsa) and its AMAZING. I tried asking for it the first time I went to a KFC in the U.S.(before I knew about regional menu´s) and they were like I don't know what that is, I asked for a chicken burger thing and I got chicken on a biscuit with honey.... it was bad. As a result, after 12 years in the U.S. I´ve been to KFC 2-3 times total.
Mickey Ds is a nickname for McDonalds we sometimes use in the US.
