When you say that PSU offense would be half as good without Tyler Warren you expose the salient point about PSU. The WR and RB room are not that dominant. Ducks 5 Deep at WR. 3 Deep at TE with Sadiq beginning to dominate. When you exalt the PSU DE when Oregon has two of them every bit as good and much bigger and also 2 great big DTs you expose the depth difference. PSU is well coached but probably 20% less talented than Oregon.
Its clear that PSU is getting the most out of their talent. This team is just shorter on talent. Compete and play hard and hope you get bounces is the only chance PSU has in this one.

Dude had a REALLY rough start though. We were in the stand practically begging them to put James back in after that ugly 3 and out when Gabriel handed the ball off for practically no gain then kept throwing incomplete passes to him. Thank God he got it together in the second half but man, he had us worried early on.

Basa is a converted safety who is very good in coverage. Boettcher is one the highest graded LB's according to PFF and also good in coverage. The 2 qualities Lanning looks for in LB's is coverage skills and sideline speed, they don't set edges and the front 4 keeps them clean
Penn st fans have a lot more knowledge when it comes to analyzing our ducks. I was just baffled how they all believed they’d easily run through the ducks if they saw them again when they clearly have a o line issue and couldn’t even generate pressure the last two times they met! Ryan Day also abandoned the run in the second half I get the ducks stopped them but as a duck fan you’d expect more runs in a Kelly system. He’s not that great of a coach, I really don’t think Michigan was that much better than them I just think the arrogance of trying to power run vs Michigan and sticking to it is crazy was the dumbest play calling I’ve seen in awhile. It reminds me of how Mario Cristobal coaches run run pass offense 😂

I actually really liked that wisconsin game. We played six plays over and over and kept our cards to our chest. We were also missing key personnel... Yesterday we really didn't play any real unique plays against UW. Lanning has a lot of up sleaves for the playoffs
For alot of us long time Duck fans, the Rose Bowl 95 was the 1st massive game we ever went to. Danny O'Neil set a Rose Bowl passing record & Ki-Jana Carter showed why he was the soon to be #1 pick. Great game. Ducks have waited a long time for this rematch!

@kych2008 relying on stats alone isn't a great indicator. The intangibles like disciplined, aggressive play and great coverage arent factored in there. Id argue that Oregons defense may be better than OSUs on several fronts that are on tape and on game film.

Unfortunately we got clapped by a vulnerable OSU team at home (top 5 teams are franklins kryptonite). No surprise there. Duck fan here, watched every snap this season, was at the game last night and we are healthy and gelling. If Penn State can slow the game down. Force a turnover early and get momentum it could be a dog fight. Oregon has struggled in the 3rd quarter all season and I can’t quite put my finger on that but if they can keep it close anything can happen. The dome will favor the Ducks speed.

Penn States red zone defense will be very important. Oregon has no problem driving to the red zone, but they’ve struggled finishing and getting points. They looked great against Washington though.
I see the line favors Oregon by 3.5. I have to admit, that is a lower number than I would have guessed. I would have though it would be more toward a TD spread given Ducks look healthy and fresh coming off a bye a week ago. Should be a good game.
Any Oregon linebacker can handle singleton. Especially #26 Devon Jackson. The guy is the fastest player on the team as a middle linebacker. He is not getting beat by a back.

As glad as I am that Mario Cristobal moved on and we hired Dan Lanning to be our coach, I can't in good conscious credit Lanning with turning Oregon into a physical team. Mario Cristobal should 100% get the credit for turning Oregon from finesse to physical. Lanning was able to take that to the next level and sustain it, but Cristobal certainly gets the credit for making the cha ge during his tenure as Oregons head coach.
I'm looking forward to the game, but the extended college playoff calls into question the need or even point of "conference" championship games. If Penn State loses a close game to Oregon, then it's just extra game in an already long season heading into a 12 team playoff. If Oregon has a convincing win over Penn State (2 or more touchdowns), will that (unfairly) knock PSU out of the playoffs altogether? Of course, if PSU wins, they'll earn a playoff bye. Still... As for the game itself, Penn State and Oregon are surprisingly similar in terms of their overall seasons and common opponents. Penn State ave. score: 33-14; Oregon, 35-16. Oregon does appear to have more talent from top to bottom but Penn State usually keeps games real close when facing comparable or superior talent. Oregon likely may win but Oregon players and fans shouldn’t be overconfident especially when facing arguably the best pass rusher in college football in Abdul Carter and an offensive weapon that can do anything in Tyler Warren and who is extremely difficult to be contained.
overconfidence is never good but i doubt Lanning will let his players get there. an Carter is a beast for sur, but i wouldn't overlook who we got on the edge in Matayo Uiagalelie (10.5 sacks) an Jordan Burch (8.5 sacks). Jordan would most likely be the leader in sacks if he hadn't missed 4 games with an injury. an back to Carter, both our offensive tackles are all conference level guys, so it should be a great matchup to watch thru out the game. as for Warren.. another great player/athlete. but if your best weapon that we need to worry about is a TE I'm not sur that's a great recipe to win. i might be wrong but we'll just have to see when it happens

Oregon started out slow because they were adjusting to new offensive system, new QB, and figure out Oline. The Wisconsin game was the Ducks eighth straight conference game. Before their bye

I actually really liked that wisconsin game. We played six plays over and over and kept our cards to our chest. We were also missing key personnel... Yesterday we really didn't play any real unique plays against UW. Lanning has a lot of up sleaves for the playoffs
For alot of us long time Duck fans, the Rose Bowl 95 was the 1st massive game we ever went to. Danny O'Neil set a Rose Bowl passing record & Ki-Jana Carter showed why he was the soon to be #1 pick. Great game.

Oregon is likely to have guard Marcus Harper back on the line. Oregon's O-line is noticably better with him in there.
And of course they have Tez Johnson and Jordan Burch back. A healthy Oregon will indeed be a handful.

Long shot to beat Oregon but crazy things happen every week.
JF did great this season beating itt tech, south harmony institute of technology and the university of phoenix online! Unfortunately we got clapped by a vulnerable OSU team at home (top 5 teams are franklins kryptonite). No surprise there.
The good news is we may be locked in regardless of the outcome of the B1G championship.
Duck fan here, watched every snap this season, was at the game last night and we are healthy and gelling. If Penn State can slow the game down. Force a turnover early and get momentum it could be a dog fight. Oregon has struggled in the 3rd quarter all season and I can’t quite put my finger on that but if they can keep it close anything can happen. The dome will favor the Ducks speed.
I too am worried about Dillion in the cold. But in AC he is fantastic

Went to the 1995 Rose Bowl (where Penn State handled the Ducks), and the Penn State fans were great! Nice people, respectful and friendly, so I hold Penn State in high regard...but this is the year of the Duck (not in the Chinese calendar, it's the Mayan calendar) and Penn State will learn that what 12 other teams have learned, that the Ducks are damn good.
Last time the Ducks and Nittany Lions played, Bill Clinton was a first term president. "Dumb and Dumber" and "The Lion King" were playing in theaters. I was renting a two bedroom house in the Hawthorne neighborhood, SE Portland, for $785 per month.
Penn State can't sleepwalk through the first quarter or first half as they have done this season. They will get buried deeper than they can escape. Oregon plays with high energy right from the start. This is an opportunity for Penn State to win the B1G and get a first-round bye. They have to come ready to play from the opening kickoff.

Penn States red zone defense will be very important. Oregon has no problem driving to the red zone, but they’ve struggled finishing and getting points. They looked great against Washington though.

I see the line favors Oregon by 3.5. I have to admit, that is a lower number than I would have guessed. I would have though it would be more toward a TD spread given Ducks look healthy and fresh coming off a bye a week ago. Should be a good game.

As glad as I am that Mario Cristobal moved on and we hired Dan Lanning to be our coach, I can't in good conscious credit Lanning with turning Oregon into a physical team. Mario Cristobal should 100% get the credit for turning Oregon from finesse to physical. Lanning was able to take that to the next level and sustain it, but Cristobal certainly gets the credit for making the cha ge during his tenure as Oregons head coach.

I'm looking forward to the game, but the extended college playoff calls into question the need or even point of "conference" championship games. If Penn State loses a close game to Oregon, then it's just extra game in an already long season heading into a 12 team playoff. If Oregon has a convincing win over Penn State (2 or more touchdowns), will that (unfairly) knock PSU out of the playoffs altogether? Of course, if PSU wins, they'll earn a playoff bye. Still...

Hats off to Penn State. Duck fan here so happy that our teams get to play each other this year. I expect a very competitive game. Can you imagine the winner of this game might have to play Ohio State in the playoffs. Yikes, it doesn’t get any easier.
Oregon does appear to have more talent from top to bottom but Penn State usually keeps games real close when facing comparable or superior talent. Oregon likely may win but Oregon players and fans shouldn’t be overconfident especially when facing arguably the best pass rusher in college football in Abdul Carter and an offensive weapon that can do anything in Tyler Warren and who is extremely difficult to be contained.
Oregon is far superior! They will blow Penn State out! Maybe. The refs will try to keep it close for Vegas, like they did OSU.

overconfidence is never good but i doubt Lanning will let his players get there. an Carter is a beast for sur, but i wouldn't overlook who we got on the edge in Matayo Uiagalelie (10.5 sacks) an Jordan Burch (8.5 sacks). Jordan would most likely be the leader in sacks if he hadn't missed 4 games with an injury. an back to Carter, both our offensive tackles are all conference level guys, so it should be a great matchup to watch thru out the game. as for Warren.. another great player/athlete. but if your best weapon that we need to worry about is a TE I'm not sur that's a great recipe to win. i might be wrong but we'll just have to see when it happens
