His style of reffing, especially the start, is the best I've seen
Devon would start to have a tantrum worse than he did about the contract if they put a legitimate real ref in. Devon cherry picks his matches and he has to have the refs he wants and the rules set so he can win with shenanigans. With a real ref Devon would not crack the top 10. But if you bring that up Devon’s fanboys go on full attack.

Why would John get tired of fighting for the fair start? Against Devon that's literally what you should do even if it means you lose a round due to fouls.
Because it is mentally and physically draining to fight against your opponent for position (especially against Devon, his stamina is off the chart, and John was 57 years old). At one point you give up and hope the referee will do his job.
A good example, Matt Mask vs Evgeny Prudnik during East vs West 3. Clearly Prudnik had the advantage in the set-up, and Matt Mask, as the wild horse he is, was screaming, shouting what his opponent was doing. At one point it worked, because both referees (up and down) were watching Prudnik during the set-up. Unfortunately, you could see Matt dripping in sweat because it took so much out of him just to have a fair start. He lost too much energy and at the end lost the match.
Travis could have cut off that last part but chose not to 😂 👌🏼
It is all in fun and to bring attention to the sport. I knew who John was thanks to Over the Top and an awesome documentary but Devon is what got me to start following arm wresting despite me having no interest in ever doing it. I like the John gets it and even played into it a bit.

I used to not like Travis, the more I watch his matches and him I think he’s actually a really good guy. He’s just like Devon in the fact that he will do and say anything at the table to get an advantage. Travis also has a big respect for John as well

John arguing the grip during the first round against Devon will always bother me considering he *CLEARLY* started waaaaay too early (probably a good second) & had the advantage. We saw what happened when he didn't get a false start with round two... which is basically, John couldn't do anything & Devon held him while laughing about it.
There's no question that Devon is the type of guy to "cheat" in every way he possibly can, especially when it comes to the grip but John isn't really that much better. Except that Devon has never made a single excuse after he lost. Whining about the reffing & grip is below John, especially when he should've gotten a foul to start with (and the only reason he didn't is b/c the ref was clearly sick of waiting & wanted the match to start).
What does John starting early have to do with Devon cheating for 6 minutes?
The match has to freakin start some time ,Devons bleeding John's hand & mind intentionally, which is breaking arnwrestling rule.
Why would Devon ever need to complain when he dictates every match in cheating fashion.

Let's face it Devon "cheats" all the time. He has been particularly miffed about the "Contract" with levan because he is worried that he won't get his way with the rules and the refs.
He doesn't cheat. He does whatever he can to get an advantage within the set rules, while not breaking any rules. If the speed limit is 65 mph, and the police will give a ticket for 70 mph or more, Devon will drive 69.9 mph. He will stretch it out to the last possible moment before the rule is actually broken, thereby being fully within the limits.
Every match he has ends up being a fiasco between the rules and refs. This sport will never make it big if they need a new ruleset every match.

@@Dmgolfer22 Based on what? Devon's dominance over MMT? After Genadi steamrolled an even bigger and stronger MMT, I don't know how much stock we can put in that. Other than that, all we have is Devon's dominating win over a recently returned and bloated John who was still recovering from an injury.
This match will finally give us some idea of where Devon actually is. If he wins, he's number one. If he takes a round or two, then we can say Devon is number two in the world for sure. If he gets swept like everyone else who has faced peak Levan, then he's going to have to start facing other Europeans so we can see where he places.

I was in a 215lb right match back in 88 that was reffed by Bruce Way ( the crazy huge guy that drank the motor oil in Over The Top) Bruce was telling everyone that pulling John was like trying to move the hydraulics of a D9 Cat..........Bruce also told us that the movie techs filled his oil can 2/3 of the way with honey and by the time he picked up the oil can the oil had risen to the surface so he actually drank the oil in the movie, and needed to go to emergency about 30 minutes after the take. Crazy.....

And yes, right now Devon is the GOAT, this is a new Devon that nobody has ever seen before, and even John said that Devon is just so good and strong, he also said that Devon has done so much for the sport, which John has also done so much for the sport. Devon is just Devon, he's a one-of-a-kind athlete, and on the outside he's a really good person, and he's funny as hell! If Levan stays on top for another 10 to 15 years he'd be the only one who could be considered as the GOAT. Brzenk has won over 500 titles spanning 40yrs and he's a true sportsman, he always played fair and never cheated anyone unlike Larratt.

Ninety seconds of rest between rounds is interesting. I wonder what the reasoning is for 90 seconds specifically? The reason I ask is because of ATP recovery times vary among strength athletes. The shortest ATP recovery times I have ever seen is 60 seconds but 2 minutes seems to be average for a highly trained strength athlete. Without measuring it's simply a guess but I would bet Devon's ATP recovery times are lower than average.
It would explain his crazy endurance levels compared to other people in similar weight classes. Less so that he can just keep going forever, but more that his tank fills back up faster than his opponents.

@@jason300c1 the clip after that was edited, when I was listening to it live and making clips, it was okay to me, there are different audio levels however with my setup I can listen to it all on one volume. After reading comments I edited the next video, and next few clips with John I’ll try to adjust it again
