  • Retired- United States Forest Service Wildland Firefighter- and songwriter, Patrick Michael Karnahan, wrote this songs melody in 2005 in honor of the 14 firefighters that died at the 1994 South Canyon Fire (Storm King Mountain). The song melody (tone poem)- was recorded by the Texas State Symphony Orchesra in 2007, in San Marcos, Texas, under the leadership of conductor and songs music arrangement, Howard Hudiburg.
    Patrick wrote the song in honor of the young lives that were lost on July 6th, 1994. When Patrick wrote the movement of cords, he felt the presents of the firefighters that were lost in every cord and key movement.     30th Anniversary News-
    On July 6, 1994, fourteen wildland firefighters gave their lives on Storm King Mountain during the South Canyon Fire. To honor the Storm King 14 and the surviving fire teams on the 30th Anniversary of this tragic fire, local, state and federal organizations are planning a commemoration July 6, 2024, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
