BIO:
A pioneering figure of the Modbap community and movement, Corry Banks (aka BboyTech) coined the term Modbap as a representation of his experiments in blending hip-hop and boombap production styles with modular synthesis. As the founder of both BBoyTechReport.com (Music tech blog for Beatmakers) and Beatppl.com (Music and sound design label / brand), BboyTech focuses on assuring the voice of hip-hop is present in music technology by combining his passions for hip-hop music and his experience as an IT professional into a platform for like-minded individuals and peers. Since then, his innovative contributions in Modbap have nurtured a movement in experimental modular synth based hip-hop production.
With beginnings steeped in the Chicago hip-hop scene, Bboytech (formerly known as Phashara) has released several group and solo projects (Beatmonstas - Bomb Til We Hit Em, Phashara - Pathways) showcasing his talents as an Emcee and producer. Having performed as an Emcee in some of Chicago and Los Angeles’ best known venues, BboyTech now turns his attention to performing live Modbap beat sets where he blends bits of ambient modular synthesis and hard hitting boombap beats.
Recent instrumental beat tapes released on Beatppl.com includs “Synthbap Vol.1” and “Art of Intelligence”.
