      Cory really could have beat him if he just mixed more shots up and was more aggressive on the feet. He should have at least been trying his best to outstrike Umar every round with ranged kicks and jabs then he could have started working in mixups and setting up certain killshots with good feints. Cory is obviously a very top level fighter and has so much potential, he just needs to get more aggressive in these situations.

      I think theyre often so caught up on being defensive, they forget to win they need to actually fight back. Dont get me wrong he fought back but its kind of like fighting Khabib, many fighters later in his career, his opponents would be so defensive, like focused on not getting taken down, that they would forgo opportunities to do damage back.
      I think this Is most prevalent and shown via as to why volk had such a good fight against Islam in their first fight, yes he was very good obviously but he didnt sit back and just play defensive and try not to lose. He still fought back and as we saw in round 5, didnt stop trying to win. Likewise, in the second fight, he was much more defensive (other factors too) but the overly defensive nature let Islam do what he wanted and could be argued lead to his finish with all the kick set ups.

      The same logic could be applied to any coach who is specialized in one area. If said fighter isn’t the proper fit, it will not benefit them and potentially ‘ruin’ them
      The weight of TW’s ability to refine elite fighters into champions, far outweighs the risk that he poses by not meshing with a fighter.

But at the same time, this was Umar's first 5 rounder. I do think there were some issues with his strategy against Umar but I don't want to blame Trevor Whitman for that fight especially because I think that he put up a great performance against TJ and should have won. I really do think it was the wrong guy winning that fight. I don't know why he doesn't do well with the judges but look at how badly the scoring was with him against Chito. He controlled that fight and destroyed Vera and one of the judges had it going the other way. He seems to only get the call if he gets a finish. When it comes to Usman I do think you have to take into consideration the fact that his knees are completely shot and so he's having a hard time using his wrestling and physicality like you once did. I do agree though that all of his fighters seem like they're stagnating a bit or other coaching staffs have sort of figured out what you need to do against a Trevor whitman fighter.

    Didn't Trevor kinda step down on Rose and let Pat Barry do the coaching before that horribe loss? As for Sandhagen it's way early to make a proper judgement. The fight with Umar was always going to be hard no matter who was gonna be on this team. He possibly would've been more aggresive with Wittman, but maybe that just would've turned out worse who knows. I get what you mean, for example in the Gaethje Holloway fight, I think it would've benefit him to fight like the original chaotic Gaethje, instead for trying to match Max technically.

    This video highlights the problem with MMA fans. Wait for the inevitable slip up then rail on guys with recency bias. Rose chose her grooming husband to corner and lead her camp. Once she distanced herself from Whitman she started losing. Gaethje was coming off a master class v Fiziev and a KO against Poirier in his peak and got beat fair and square by Max Holloway, a future HoFer. You may forget but Usman was dominating Leon before the head kick. Age and wear and tear on his knees has caught up with him. A wrestler who can no longer wrestle won’t ever stay in his prime. You’re really reaching here. Whitman is perhaps the best coach in MMA. Def best striking coach and his cornering advice is always excellent.

      @VampiricLegz  Месяц назад

      I acknowledge that Wittman is a phenomenal coach, but sometimes, his fighter end up being too defensive and sometimes a bit passive. Maybe it’s not entirely his fault. But I believe that him and Cory just aren’t a good fit. Maybe ‘Ruin’ was an overreaction.

    Wrong. Trevor Wittman is the proper coach to turn a blade into a scalpel. He gives fighters that last 10 percent they need to go from good to dominant. You cannot blame him for occasional losses and stylistic issues. He creates the best versions of those fighters, however again styles make fights and sometimes even the pinnacle of a certain style can lose to a lesser form of a different style. Age, motivation and injuries also contribute to losses.

    • @VampiricLegz
      @VampiricLegz  Месяц назад

      I don’t think Cory needed to be a scalpel, if you want to be successful against a Nurmagomedov, you can’t just be a blade. You have to be a shank, you have to really press forward and try to do damage.

      i believe wittman trains his fighters at the same facility as the alttitude guys like overeem, blaydes etc. wittmans fighters spar against those guys too reportedly. you can assume the two already interacted quite a bit based on that. gotta do your homework lol.

    • @VampiricLegz
      @VampiricLegz  Месяц назад +1

      Just did homework, elevation, altitude, and onx are all 20-30 minutes away from each other, they form a triangle.
      The Colorado mma scene is all pretty interconnected.
      I wasn’t saying that Cory got poached or anything but in his last 3-4 fights there has been a steady increase in the amount of coaching done by Wittman.
      As for the steroids stuff, it does look like Carwin, Marquardt, and a couple of others at Grudge were implicated in TRT and other steroids.
      That’s not the official reason for the disbandment but it’s likely that it was a factor.

    I actually commented on this after the last UFC card. I'm not sure if it's his strategy that is failing right now I think that there are always teams that seemed to rise up and have their time and then other teams start figuring out how to fight their fighter styles and those guys go up for a while. Also Rose is the most overlooked UFC champion. People forget that she beat the best two women in her previous weight classes history twice. She had one badly coached fight against Carla esparza and everybody forgets how great she was.
