If you have it on a smart tv 4k 60 fps because the new smart tvs (2020 and beyond) upscaling the resolution you can have a 4k resolution with the series s.

Depends on the game, size of tv and how far you are from the TV on 55inch 4k tv 720p is stretched out and blurry, 1080p less so because 1080p scales up on a 4k tv better. For a series s I'd say best tv would be at max a 32inch 4k tv were you have more pixel density so lower resolution games will look crisper than a big tv.

I noticed a difference in clarity once it changed, but the times that the Series S was shown first, I thought it was the X! I think you may need to make sure Dolby Vision or HDR is enabled/calibrated on the S, because the biggest difference to me was saturation (Jedi Fallen Order was a little different and Plague Tale looked really washed out compared to the X), and that should be the same regardless of the game. Either way, the S looks surprisingly good in its games!

It depends on the game. If it's something like a Forza Horizon 5 or Halo Infinite then yes the difference is going to be massive as the Series S can't produce a 4k output for either of those games. My 4k tv has a very sharp picture so any blurriness produced by a lower resolution is immediately noticeable. It's one of the reasons I was so eager to upgrade my console experience as I was on PS4 last gen.
    This gen I'm rocking a Series X.

Let's be honest, for the money Series S looks gorgeous. It's only when you then see the X you realise there's a step-up. Both impress so much, S for the over-performance relative to it's price and the X for the shear power and future potential.

I have an X and an S and I can honestly say, yes, yes you can tell. Between the 4k and the smooth motion of the series X, totally worth it. At this point, I would say the series S is worth it if you're gaming on a smaller monitor and using it strictly as a Game Pass machine.
For example, I was playing Jedi fallen order the other night on both systems, the series S just seemed a little blurry and almost had a Vaseline smear look across the screen. Something that I personally can't overlook. The series X, on the other hand looks perfectly clear, and was so smooth.

I went from a Series S to a X recently. While in current gen/cross gen games the difference in graphical quality is not big, for retrocompatibility games the difference is huge. The Outer Worlds for instance(last gen version) looked too blurry on the Series S, with washed out textures and poor draw distance. On the Series X however, it looked incredibly sharp, 4k resolution , top-notch textures and amazing reflection and lighting effects. Wolfenstein 2 The New colossus has a big difference between the two versions as well.

I got both X and S... I have to say the series S impresses me the most... Yeah the series X is alot better but 9 out of 10 times when I play on the series S I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything and that's amazing for such a small console! Gears 5 runs like a dream and looks great, even in 120Hz! Ori runs and look great with 120Hz! Call of duty runs on 120Hz! Halo infinite runs on 120Hz even on the S after updates. 120fps is the gamechanger for me this Gen and the series S can do it with alot of games, that's impressed me the most. I am a little worried though, 60fps fine but newer games that are very demanding will runs on 30 again I'm afraid, that's sucks big time😅 Games that run on 30 is a deal breaker for me, it just plays like shit... 60 should be the minimum this Gen😁

I am lucky to have a series S and a series X and I use them for different things. I use the X for AAA games and my favorite COD games and I use the X as a gamepass beast and for indie titles and titles that I don’t think benefit that much from the massive power of the X. I also love that I can cross a game over and continue my progress, it’s really great. For the price, the S is insanely powerful. I also love it for playing backwards compatible games. It’s a tiny wonder. Like Tiny Tina, which I’m playing on the S! Great video, btw. I guessed right on everything but Halo. That’s an impressive game on the S. I have the master chief collection on the S and it rocks. Try it! Forza Horizon 5 is another one that rocks on the S. Really smooth. I also think devs have yet to fully push the S or the X to the fullest. Curious to see what comes in 2023 and how the consoles stack up. I really hope Microsoft keeps pushing and supporting the S, it’s a sleeper system that slaps hard. And it’s so small and well designed. It got me back into XBOX and it got me to find your channel, and both are wins. Keep up the great work.

Remember you don't see what you eyes "sees" but what your visual cortex "sees". Of course if you try to focus on differences you are more likely to notice them.
But when I'm into a game I really not counting the pixels or how amazing the blades of grass looks. I'm amazed how much I'm enjoying the Steam Deck with it's 7" screen which has less power than my gaming desktop and laptop.
The same with a movie. If I try to noticed how many times the scene changes from different shots especially with no sound I actually find the different camera shots a little annoying. But when I'm into a movie I don't notice how many times the camera shot changes.
I'm like you only recently started to play Halo with the Halo collection starting with Halo 1. Halo 1 still looks good enough for me to enjoy the game. At first I'm amazed at the superior graphics of modern games but for me a few hours into the game that amazement fades away especially if a game has a good story to draw me into the game.
The same with an OLED screen vs LCD screen with movies and games. If it's a good movie I can enjoy it on any decent screen but a bad movie or game still sucks on an OLED screen with surround sound. I didn't buy the Steam Deck to play game like Vampire Survivors yet when I start playing it I end up playing for hours.

Old games with optimizations for next gen consoles and games released for this gen of consoles and is shared between last and current gen consoles won't make much use of the x3 more powerful GPU on the XSX. It takes a "next-gen" game and a 4K screen to obtain any noticeable difference

Hard for the end user to really judge what is what. There are too many variables at play here like the end users panel, the compression on the video, the recording device used to record etc. Also, a better test would be to run the XBox Series X at 1080p and 4K, and get somebody else in person to give their opinion while not telling them what setting is what.

Im not the only one that thinks these are pretty easy to tell the difference between right? Other than Jedi fallen order because the shading difference made it harder to compare. I like the fact that the Series S makes a low entry point for people on a budget, but good lord does the Series X put it to shame in terms of overall clarity and resolution.

To answer your final question, I honestly don't really care about the graphics. My current console is the xbox 360 so anything and everything will be an upgrade.
The stuff that's making me doubt; are the storage, and the disc drive.
Storage can be managed and expanded in different ways, but there's no way to play discs on the S.
Since I've missed a whole generation I could pick up a lot of used xbone games on the cheap, physically. However I am mostly a cod and forza horizon fan. Other casual games I play on the switch.
So what would the series x give me? Some cheap cod games that I missed out on. Everything from black ops 3 until now. I don't think I want all of them, and some of them can be found cheapish digitally. But essentially being stuck with expensive digital games is the only thing holding me back.
If the xbox had more game sales and options to buy digital keys like the pc has, I'd pick the S without a doubt. Now I'm still a bit hesitant.

Unless you're blind, then yes you can tell a difference. I owned the series s for a year before upgrading to the series x. Everything is more crisp and detailed in the series x. It's been a great upgrade. I'd say if you are in the market for a budget friendly upgrade from an old gen. The series s will give you what you need. But the X is the best of the two. It's why it's so much more expensive.

Great video and channel! I just discovered you and I'm glad I did because I love the casual style of your videos. :) I actually just got a Series S myself as a secondary console/Game Pass machine (since I too am a PS5 player this generation), and this video confirms for me what I already noticed myself over the last few days - there IS a difference between (in my case) the visuals of games on PS5 vs Series S...BUT its so close that honestly it doesn't really matter? Sure games look just a tad better on PS5 (as I assume they would on Series X), but the 4k upscaling and optimization on Series S means things still look pretty incredible either way. The only reason I can tell on a game like Halo: Master Chief Collection is that I've also played it extensively in native 4K on my gaming PC. So I can tell, but its so close that I can just shrug and enjoy the experience. Microsoft has a real banger of a sleeper hit on its hands with the S, and I'm so glad to see the love spreading for the machine! The PS5/SX are consoles you EXPECT to be visually impressive - the Series S is one that blows you away with how visually impressive it actually is, especially considering the price!

Xbox Series S fun fact: you can increase the sharpness to the max and the super-resolution to high on your 4k TV plus a little bit of increase of color depth (by 10 numbers) and it will match the Series X perfectly. That small visual gap between the two (sharpness & color depth) will be fixed.

I failed miserably lol. The last game was very obvious. Jedi fallen order initially said A was the X but swapped my opinion after seeing B mainly due to the colour differences. The colour in A looked very cartoonish. Halo I couldn't tell apart both looked terrible.
My only issue for a series S is how much better the last game looked on the X. I'd hate to buy the S and 2 years later another game like cyberpunk comes out where it's just doesn't run well on the S version but the X console handle's it well
