To the Thais, Songkran is much more than just the water fight. You video captures Songkran from a Thai perspective, and this is what makes it different from most other videos on Songkran. Well done.

Those structures are sand pagoda or พระเจดีย์ทราย (pronounce pra-jay-dee-sai)
This traditional is about people return sand (that might attach to feet or shoes from the temple) back to the temple to build something useful to Buddhism.

Great details that you shared, The first part is the one that tourist don't know.
Second we will do with monk, Third we give older the water to apology in the past,
After this we will go to play the water with friend. Most of tourist know only water play/fight (this part).

You know the real meaning of Songkran (Waterfight is for entertaining tourists and youngsters) These sand pagodas are often topped with colorful pennants or flags which may depict the animals of the Thai zodiac (horse, dog, monkey, snake etc.). (www.thaizer.com/thailand-photos/songkran-sand-pagodas).
