    8th place finish. well done. this looked like a really technical course. hard to get an appreciation for the grade % of the courses you film. got to go by the amount of huffing and puffing you hear or the speed of the rear cassette when you are not peddling. fine work.

    1st time watcher and enjoyed the ride along. Had my stationary bike set up in front of the wide screen and rode with you on u-tube. 1:26.00. I didn't know if we were going to pass that last rider at the finish, way to go kicked his butt. My mileage only showed 15mils I know you did a lot more. Good luck in 2018.

    I'm so glad I followed your video. Excellent by the way. I just got into mountain biking. I exercised to your video on my wall climber for 15 minutes then jumped on my exercise bike. Listening to you changing gears I followed with the level. I did about 28 minutes and enjoyed the workout. Hopefully you didn't get hurt when you hit. I'm glad I didn't feel it. See you on my next day to exercise....

    I have never done an XC race but after watching this video if I was to do it I would make sure my dieting was on point as well as my cardio obviously can't miss leg day but I would also spend a few previous months before race day in high altitude training for the race that way when the inclines come and the Relentless constant pressure of the terrain and other racers wouldn't affect my body as much as it would already be acclimated to the high altitude which would help my muscles to perform better under low oxygen but you can live your entire life in high altitude but if your diet isn't correct it won't do much good. I just got into the sport of MTB I was looking for a bike that was DH or Enduro and what I ended up purchasing was it devinci Jack RC hardtail 29er which is considered to be an XC bike I'm slowly converting it over to something more ideal for DH/DJ . Although I do like how the 29in wheels cover a lot of ground and are easier on the chunky or stuff as the wheels don't set into the dips and crevices as easy as a smaller wheel. I even like the geometry of the frame what I don't like is the chain retention I seem to drop chain way too often I brought it in the bike shops to see what I can do and until I upgrade my drivetrain all they would do is put a new chain on my bike. Since then when I go to stand up and go up a hill is Skips which means the chain has not worn out to the same wear as the rear cassette so I will have to replace the cassette now. But ultimately I would like to turn it into a 1 by 9 with a new set of forks as these ones are horrible I am currently writing Sr Suntour xcm 130 mm travel with lockout. And there's way too much play in the front end and I'm not sure if it's from Wheel rotation or if the forks or bushings or bearings are just garbage. I bought the bike used but it was in brand new condition from a bike shop as an older gentleman traded it in for something more his age

    sooooo cool !!! what the heck do you eat the night before a race like this ? how about that morning prior the race and during? any quick tip for a regular trail rider ?

    • @bengoyette
      @bengoyette  4 года назад

      Pablo D :) Good question, and the answer is actually simpler that what people might think. The most important nutrition tip, is to properly refuel workouts. Just making sure not to have a calorie deficit, and there’s no need to “load up” with excess food. If I burn 1000 calories on a workout, I’ll probably eat 200 extra calories before, then eat about 100 calories per hour during the workout, then prepare a smoothie to refill the missing calories right after the workout. I don’t bother tracking anything else than the macros, since I eat mostly fresh whole food, so it’s balanced naturally

      For sure it can! A hardtail is a good way to become a better technical rider while saving money. With lower end components, just keep them clean and avoid the extreme mud and the bike will last longer.

    Ben, does your neck ever get sore from having your helmet cam mounted so far forward? Last year when I wore mine, I had it mounted far up and my neck would get sore from the added weight. Moved it back and helped out some. Just curious. Great race for your first xc race of the year AND first pro category!

    • @bengoyette
      @bengoyette  7 лет назад

      I don't feel the extra weight anymore to be honest. Maybe I grew a strong RUclipsr's neck (hehe). The Session and HERO4 Black without the waterproof case are pretty light cameras. And now that I ride with a wired battery pack at the rear, it acts as a counter-weight. So it feels balanced. But I also tighten my helmet like crazy to keep it stable.

    How do you hydrate for races? I find myself getting headaches in the middle of the race on hot dry days. I try to get some hydration mix in me before the race with a little bit during the race? Any suggestions?

    • @bengoyette
      @bengoyette  7 лет назад

      I start a few days before the race and drink a little more than usual and keep eating a lot of fresh fruits. It takes a while to fully hydrate. I keep a bottle next to the bed and drink anytime I wake up. Then I'll drink a bottle on the way to the race, one during warmup and race with two. I put Hammer Endurolytes Fizz in my race bottles and Scratch Labs in my pre-race bottles. Sometime when it's really hot and dry, I'll just take the Camelbak with me to be able to drink anywhere on course.

    Nice ride. Congrats! I was thinking about buying a Trek superfly 5 or 7. It's been a year I've been into MTB with a Jamis Durango Comp. frame 19.5" and 26 wheels. I'll have to save half of my yearly income to buy it do you guys think it's worth it? Superfly 7 final price here is about 4000 USD. I'm 1,92m tall looks like I'm riding a kid bike lol.

    • @bengoyette
      @bengoyette  7 лет назад

      It's been a while since I tried an Epic, but I'm not very fond of the "brain" thing. I'd rather use my own brain as I know what's coming up on the race course. I find the brain to be unpredictable as it can only react -- it cannot anticipate. I really like how Scott's lock-out works; very ergonomic and I can step from any mode to any mode (ex: locked to trail mode is SUPER useful)

      Maybe, maybe not, it depends on your riding style. At that track, having good grip on the narrow bumpy corners is important. Most UCI pros were choosing their dual-suspension there.

      I use Final Cut Pro for editing and color grading. The GoPros have amazing HDR! I shoot with ProTune in the flat color profile
