- The process of growing elderberry plants from cuttings is not difficult, because elderberries are known to root well in both soil and water. In this video, I run you through the process of taking elderberry cuttings for propagation. I am able to achieve a large root system in my elderberries by starting them in both soil and water.
Let us know which medium works best for your cuttings in the comments below!

Very informative, would like to see more of your greenhouse.
I also propogate grapes the same way.
I don't have grapes on my farm yet. But it's good to know that I can propagate them the same way.
Will cuttings root this early in spring? Weather is pretty crazy right now. We had a few really warm days 74°-76° then it snowed again, and now it’s warming back up. I know of an elderberry bush down in town, if I get cuttings do you think they’ll grow? (I’m in California, in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, if that matters 😊) All the info I can find talks about doing it in the fall. I did that but they all became hallow and died.
We took our last cuttings just before Easter. I prefer to get them before they leaf out. Elderberry is basically a weed, and will practically root anytime if the conditions are right.
@@nuttygnomehomestead Awesome! Thanks for that info. I’ll give it a shot and see if it works. 🤗
