    I was diagnosed with disc bulge and annular tear .. I had sciatica .. the conventional exercises taught by physical therapists aggravated my issue which caused me even more distress. Your videos are really informative and helpful. I am a medical doctor myself and I appreciate and thank you for the videos .

    Doc you spit straight facts. I watched your video on 13 things that make your herniated disk wrong and not surprised I was doing just that. No wonder I wasn’t going anywhere.
    It’s all about the lower abs. You know your stuff doc.

      I love your videos, great practical advice as I have back, neck and hip arthritis, one thing I’m concerned about is that I bought a good quality rebounder(€340) after hearing how good and gentle it is for joints, low impact too, and great for lymphatic system, so I’ve been using it just for gentle walking, but now I’m worried that it might not be good for my hip because the surface of the rebounder may not be stable enough for my hip joints, it was fine when I started using it as I’d had a hip injection that gave me relief for over 3 months but since the injection wore off, I notice my hip pain has got worse, I’d really appreciate your advice, I’m hoping I don’t need to sell my rebounder😬

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  10 месяцев назад

      Great question Isobel! To put your fears to rest, you do not need to sell your rebounder. Almost everything we do with our hips can be done with proper stability. If you can use your glutes effectively, you can provide the necessary stability to the hip to make sure that your hip starts to improve. It may be a good idea to stop the rebounder in the meantime, at least until you get to the point where your hip symptoms have decreased and your glutes are activating properly. Hope this helps!

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  10 месяцев назад

      Hey Isobel! We first want to commend you for your efforts on wanting to improve your pain issues, we think it's great that you are being active in your recovery! We are sorry to hear that you deal with back, neck, and hip arthritis. We can only imagine how all these problems have affected your quality of life.
      Generally speaking, we would suggest that if the rebounder is increasing your pain then that is a good enough indicator that you should avoid using it for the moment. We would suggest focusing on exercises and stretches that help with loosening the hips and strengthening the glutes, like the ones in the following videos:
      "Top 4 Exercises You Absolutely Should Start Now For Bone On Bone Hip Arthritis"
      ruclips.net/video/4sgoIwsAC6s/видео.htmlfeature=shared
      "Top 4 Exercises & Stretches That Actually Give You Hip Pain Relief"
      ruclips.net/video/VkYW3GBTmac/видео.htmlfeature=shared
      Now when it comes to injections, it is important to know that they are sometimes great for providing temporary relief for a few weeks or months but it is common that the pain returns because the root problem was never addressed. The videos shared with you above, do a way better job at addressing the root problem over the long term. If you're looking for more information on injections check the following video:

    Thank you for strengthening abdominal exercises. I wasn't aware you needed to do them throughout the day. I am 77 years old and working on this faithfully to try to avoid disc surgery!

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  9 месяцев назад

      Hey Ineke! You're very welcome, Yes doing these exercises multiple times throughout the day is our general suggestion. What's important to understand here is to prioritize a few times (3-4x) throughout the day to do these exercises, along with the glute exercises to give yourself the best chance of getting better and getting further from considering surgeries, injections, or medications. Consistency is key!
      Here are some additional exercises that could help with your situation:

    If a person with with herniated disc is already in a posterior pelvic tilt wouldn't those exercises further increase it? Does this work for those with anterior pelvic tilt only?

      Hey Angela! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. We're really passionate about teaching and educating our viewers, which is why we often explain the reasons behind the movements and exercises we demonstrate in our videos. We believe understanding what's happening in your body is key to getting the most out of the exercises.
      However, we totally understand that some people prefer straightforward exercise videos without explanations. If that's what you're looking for, our channel might not be the best fit for you, and that's totally okay! We want you to have the content that suits your preferences.
      We appreciate your feedback. Take care and stay healthy

    Hi I am beside myself with worry about my elderly mother who just got out of hospital on Thu admitted with severe sciatica due to degeneration. She had a cortisone injection which seem to work initially but gradually wore off and she is now on a lot of painkillers including Lyrica and tapendalol that don't seem to be helping much. She was discharged from rehab worse than she entered rehab she is an excruciating pain when she ambulates and we have had to get her a wheelchair to get around the house and my 12-year-old has been staying with her because we're too scared today's her home alone. She has a painful ulcer on her lower leg which had caused a lot of limping prior to her admission and is still an issue but it is her opposite hip she feels the the sciatica that she scribes as a hot poker stabbing her.
    She sits in her reclined chair most of the day and is unable to do a lot of her exercises because she can't weight bare. They are talking about sending her to a pain clinic and potentially having back surgery.
    Which of course we want to avoid especially as she also has emphysema but she's in so much pain she just wants an operation to fix but I can't see her doing well because her muscles are so weak.
    She doesn't trust the hospital system because it has failed her but I think she'll probably need to go back after Easter because she's just not safe to stay at home. But we feel that she was kicked out so they could close one of the rehab wards and Payless staff over Easter.
    I just want to know if you have any suggestions of exercises she can be doing in her condition. I know sitting in the recliner most of the time is far from ideal could she take advantage of it and lay it down flat to try and do some sort of mild exercise. Would it be useful if nothing else just to lay it down flatter anyway so she's not always in the seated position?
    I have lost faith in the medical system especially since the doctors being gagged since covid they some of them have proven that they are not there for the patients best interest any more!

    I would add that you want to give a disc bulge or disc herniation a few weeks to settle before you start doing this stuff or you could risk further damage pay attention to your body. Believe me you’re not gonna feel like doing any of this stuff the first couple weeks.

    Really appreciate these... I'm 12 weeks post hip replacement and spinal fusion in 2017. Always had a strong core but lost a lot due to inactivity. .. Been following you for a while and so grateful . You have been more instrumental in my hip recovery than the inexperienced physio I have been assigned, who is focused on the hip and caused me a lot of unnecessary pain (leg raises,etc)
    Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to educate people like myself who can't afford someone like you 🙏💕☘️

    Hello! Thank you for your videos. I am actually a young one that got disc prolapse last year on january. They told me that normally they'd have done a surgery but since im young they said pain and discomfort might go away with Physiotherapies. So till June i did my Physiotherapies. But now i feel again a little bit discomfort.. i feel it being there. I have probably done something wrong i suppose. Any extra tips you could please give? I know that the disc wont ever go back to how it was. But i dont want that from stopping me from anything either. Exercising regularly is a must i guess and i will be doing that. But now that i feel it again.. what should i do?
