- This is a short video unboxing my latest purchase, the Arca Swiss D4 Geared Tripod Head Classic.
I mount it to my Benro TMA48XCL tripod and demonstrate how it works.
There is also a fliplock version available but I was recommended the traditional classic knob locking device system and it appears to be a good choice. If you have any questions, please let me know.

The close-up segment at the end can stand on its own. Wonderfully effective.
I WILL have one! Thanks for the rundown! Very well done.
the smaller dovetail is for the "mono ball fix" plates, AND arca-Swiss Monorails (the bar on the LF cameras, tech. name "optical bench"); the wide side is for standard fit or "classic" plates; CAN'T confuse these, the large classic plate is OFFSET i.e. 2/3 of the plate rest on the "loose jaw" of the clamp, the other 1/3 on the fixed jaw on the head (and very precise tolerances), so only their plates work!!- not like the sirui and Gitzo, etc. arca compatible plates! ( there is a silver thumb knob inside the QR plate base, this has LIMITED tension adjustment, can't fit this to EVERY plate manufacturer, choose one and set the knob and stick to this brand).
Excellent explanations!
Great video demo. Looks awesome.
Thanks for sharing! did you got the chance to use it compare to the arca cube?
great video and review super quality head. Impressive branded shirt aswell! you should sell some on your website
As a fan and user of geared heads this one looks amazing. So many nice little touches. Looks like and compact as well. But a £1000 (or near enough), I don't think I'll be getting one (but I can understand why you did). That's 10x what I just paid for my Benro (which I'm happy to say is just as good as my Manfrotto, but a lot lighter). However, price aside, thanks for sharing. It doesn't really matter that I can't afford (or is that justify) this head, I really appreciate you sharing this video. I just wish a few more companies did geared heads and there were more options on the market. Cheers.
What do you think about the D4 versus the P0 hybrid? It’s a ball head that also has gearing for fine tune
Nice piece of kit, but waaaaayyyy out of my price range. I'll be sticking with the Benro! Thanks for the review Melvin nonetheless.
Thank you, very useful.
HI Mel, is there a spirit level bubble on the head to help you set up for panorama shots?
Still seems mad to spend that amount of money on a ball head but I really hope it works out for you Melvin, it's an investment and a half for sure :) ! I definitely prefer that design over the manfrotto 410 geared head I've got though!
What plate(s) are you using with Arca Swiss D4? Have you had any trouble with an L-bracket plate interfering with tethering or movement of the rear LCD on your EOS-R?
Very very nice
Bonjour,
thanks a lot too.
What do you think of the head so far?
like it but then realised the knobs have rubber on .. i havnt had a tripod head that rubber lasts ,achilles heel was hoping they were knurled ,
