Platform attack, using one person to attract several monsters to jump and grab food, can simultaneously reduce the load capacity of the city wall defense, and also buy time to increase the number of monsters killed on the city wall.
That is the dumbest idea. Sacrificing women under the threat of mass extinction.
If they're only mode of attack is downward into a pile of meat, just put a little more weight on the spears and turn them into anti-monster lawn darts. No need to follow a thrown spear with bodyweight.

Their job is to distract the monsters so they don't start climbing the wall. They're supposed to die.

Think of Star Craft. Siege tanks are nice but when they go past the kill zone and get in close, firebat and marines are simply irreplaceable
@nguyengiathai well its more of a "i have a line of siege tanks but i give 5 minerals every few seconds to the zerg player rushing me". they have spear and shield infantry if any tao got up. crane corps should have been intercepting midway up the wall climbers not diving into a blob but they have saws and stuff for that too.

If you load the jumpers with poison inside their bodies, you get 10 beasts killed for each human you give them as food.
So, maybe this tactic makes sense after all😅

And people like you probably complained that there was to much monster brawling in the godzilla movies and not enough human drama. Movies like this are just for fun. If you delve deep into it you probably walk around hoping someone will nail you to a cross so you can be eternally victimized.
I like to imagine this is a more accurate show of how Miao Ying defends against a siege at the bastion gates. 😭

That's how fantasy battles should be like: impractical units, laws of phisycs... what are those?, impossible creatures doing impossible things and heroes doing stuff no one is supposed to do. I like it, wonderful movie.
The Crane corp thing would have made sense if they dropped gunpower down...like they'll jump down and throw a bomb like weapon...them just stabbing the lizard was this stupidest thing ever
At that close range to the wall may have caused structural damage. Better to have launched gunpowder bombs with the cranes instead and forget about the crane corps.

@bman3794 The part about structural damage to the wall with the bombs are my thoughts exactly…and while the crane corp was a pretty good idea, it would've been better if they gave all the members of the crane corp two spears each thus not leaving any openings for the monsters to jump up and grab them. But that's just my opinion, what do you think?

Nah probably owed the studio a favor or was given the promise of a huge payoff since this was one of the first movies to be shown in the Chinese market at the time. Of course gotta have at least to not alienate the Western market

This movie got a lot of crap bc it's (white) Matt Damon starring in a movie called "The Great Wall". ....I loved it. For entertainment value it was a great watch. Cool new aliens , good CGI , and nice character development as the film progresses. Plus , this film introduced me to Pedro Pascal.
PS. This film was Chinese directed , and a Chinese production (+ Universal) , so everybody was on board with Matt Damon starring in it.
