Interesting. I sort of knew this but you put another perspective on it by sayng we have the power to change these patterns by affrmations. As a child I was often told I was melodramatic and exagerated things by my Mum who couldn't cope with any negativity. Now, I live with a man who I now realise is probably on the autistic spectrum. He is very passive and silent and I often feel I am being melodramatic if I swear at some quite small thing that goes wrong. I feel very uncool then! I can see very clearly how it applies to a friend's life too

thank you for sharing such an insightful reflection. It's fascinating how these patterns, often set in motion during childhood, shape our experiences and reactions later in life. Affirmations are indeed powerful-they help us rewrite the narratives we were given and reframe how we see ourselves. It’s as if we’re taking back authorship over our own story, transforming what was once a reaction into a conscious choice.
The situation you described about being called ‘melodramatic’ speaks to the core of this concept. Sometimes, society, or even our loved ones, give labels that don’t truly fit who we are; instead, they reflect others’ limitations or misunderstandings. Yet, as we become more aware of these labels, we can start to shed them, replacing them with beliefs that honor our true selves. I have been able to successfully recognize and replace some core beliefs and situations that I adopted earlier in life that don't serve me well. Some were easy to do and visit while some really took a toll on me as visiting them and correcting them was hard due to personal attachments and at times deep scaring. But I can say for certain that a single visit with mindfulness of recognizing and correcting has changed my life in some cases instantly. Just taking a brief moment of silence closing your eyes and allowing your self to go there and resolve it will change everything.
I’m curious, has affirming this newfound perspective helped you notice any shifts within? Or are there any affirmations that resonate especially with you on this journey? Sharing your journey might help others here, too!

@@RadiancebyAlyB Thanks so much for your reply. I do feel more at ease with the past than I did but it still rears its ugly head especially in my current situation
