- ☕ Kofi, making paper from coffee husks.
Kofi is a project by Dihue Miguens created in response to the open call, Remix el Barrio, by SISCODE - El Barri Circular, to reimagine what is possible to make with locally produced food waste. Dihue used coffee waste from NOMAD coffee in Poblenou, Barcelona to create a new biomaterial paper. This recipe is easy to follow and with the right ingredients and equipment can be done in your home kitchen!
✍️Ingredients:
1L Glycerine
100g dry clay
50L water
100g soda carbonate
25g cellulose
30g alum
Coffee husks
✍️Equipment:
Pot
Electric Stove
Mixer
Wooden Frame
Weights

SISCODE is an EU research project consisting of 10 labs and makerspaces across Europe - ‘El Barri Circular’ being the pilot of Fab Lab Barcelona. Remix El Barrio, an initiative from El Barri Circular, looks to understand how we might reimagine food waste in our local neighbourhood of Poblenou. This highlighted recipe is one of nine featured during an exhibition of designers and makers transforming food waste into new biomaterials. At Fab Lab Barcelona, our research areas look to further explore the role of maker spaces in creating a more circular economy - thinking global, acting local.

Oh! Estaba buscando algo como esto desde hace tiempo!
please make more with coffee husks
thank you
Can it be dyed into colored paper?
Hey ! What exactly is the dry clay type or name?
When to apply glycerine?
just after you have applied the clay
@PRECIOUS MAE BARBOSA cause i mentored the projects and created the fabrication processes with the designers.
@PRECIOUS MAE BARBOSA yes
@PRECIOUS MAE BARBOSA yes. you can always adjust the recipe and add fibers to reinforce it
@preciousmaebarbosa6330hi kamusta yung project nyo?😊
Are the ingredients safe for human consumption ? For making filter for te or coffee?
yes , they are completely safe
Yes, all the biomaterial binders are safe for consumption.
too mucn ingredients and water to do it. It's better recycle old paper and let the coffee husk to nature to degrsde and use it
Yes, we are improving the processes in order to make ir more efficient. I will get anyway into organic decomposition, we just propose alternatives for an ecodesign solution before than that.
