Excellent job there Johan! I have a purple plum tree in my yard that I wanted to air layer, but I never get to it. I probably need to this summer. Thanks for the video!
Great video! This was a way more straight forward guide then most others, which I liked :) Did my first airlayering on a maple this year. Today opened a small hole to see if any roots had developed and they had :D Thanks for video and hopefully many more in the future. Would be cool with a video of your own collection.
i tried putting moss on the same way you did my first time. hard innit?! now I get a mass of moss, place it on the trunk and use a natural fibre gardening twine/string to tie it roughly in place, not too tight, then apply the plastic over it.
Hey Johan, you didn't say how long this airlayering will take - do you keep the bag and the moss just for the growing seasong or overwinter it too? Just curious; I lost my apple sapling grown from seed during the long autumn, would love an apple tree to my small collection. Also, could you give an update on the last years collected trees? I'm interested how they survived through the wintertime (long autumn). Great video, very easy to follow the instructions. Thanks a million! Cheers from Finland!
Thanks bonsai friend.. If have very little experience with evergreen trees (like pines) when it comes to air-layering, but i do think it might work. Decidious trees is much easier.. atleast in our experience and knowledge.
I believe some pines such as Scots pine can be very difficult to near impossible. supposedly yew trees will air layer but I've had no joy. black pine will also allegedly take an air layer.
Hi . aim living in New Zealand and its summer hear now and wants to do some airlaerings now can u tell me from how young branches can i use to airlaer from thanks for all the help and time to come back to us
I chose to comment on this video as it is your newest. Hi, I'm from England and I want to grow a bonsai tree. Do you know of any easy bonsai that can be grown preferably indoors? I have a reasonably large window with a desk in front and the sun rises north-west from when you are looking out. Any recommendations? I'm saying inside just because England's weather can be very unpredictable (very wet in most months, however this year we did have a longer summer) and I'm not sure if the climate would properly suit a bonsai tree. But I may be wrong?
It was all the way down to the XYLEM (white yellowish tissue). The Xylem sends fluids and minerals up and down, so thats what you want to get down to.. If we woulda only hit CAMBIUM (greenish stuff) - It would fail, and the tree would just reproduce that lost tissue and eventually make bark there again..
Whats up Rikard..You know what, apple trees I think is actually one of the easiest varieties to even make air layers on, as we speak. Atleast i know the commercial fruit industry uses this method *alot* on apple trees...
Can we talk about care of specific trees? Your always saying you need to know your trees, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to narrow down care specifics, and getting a lot of general Bonsai Care. I am picking up on little details from videos in general, but it would be nice to have all the info in one place.
Nice video Johan, I always look forward to more Bonsai Talk!
Where is Bonsai Talk? I have been waiting on more great videos

You're removing too much xylem tissue....
