- From the Sam Houston Coliseum, September 4, 1981. Rare one-on-one matchup between Bruiser Brody and Ken Patera. BLOODY. Please comment if you like it & want to see more!
Patera has muscles bulging out of parts of his upper body where I didn’t think you could could build muscles. Truly a specimen. Respect to Brody as usual, always entertaining and a physical beast himself.
In the early 1970s, Patera weighed 340 pounds and did a standing broad jump (from a dead start, not running) and covered ten feet six inches. Try that weighing half as much, almost no one can do it. Then he held off a truck with his back against a brick wall, rubber smoke in the air, no fake.
Both these guys are legends. Main eventers
What an awesome match!! Yes, there was a time in pro-wrestling history when great matches like this were commonplace. They ruined it in the late 80's and 90's and it will probably never regain the greatness it once had. Glad I was a fan in this era. I was 10 yrs old at this time.
Thank Vince for that
You think theater 80s and 90s ruined it? Try watching the bullshit they try to promote these days.
Love it
@@r.thompson2190 what about Jim Herd
@@83reggieT that’s really a really similar conclusion to his point dude
I wish Bruiser Brody was still alive.
Great old school wrassling.
Thanks for the upload 👍🏼🤗
Brody's knee drop was underrated, I believe; it always looked like he was putting his opponent's head through the floor!
Philip Scott his knee drop was amazing!!!
Way better than Hogan's leg drop
Al Snow said you didn't even feel the knee drop
The wrestling territory system was a testament to cooperation. Talent exchanges, handshake deals, and decent notice could make a decent night's entertainment. By the way, Houston wrestling was run by a true gentleman named Paul Boesch.
Omg seeing Patera brings back child hood memories! Wow amazing how wrestling does that.
"Breakin' backs like Ken Patera" -Method Man 1994
That was the gza
I remember going to the Sam Houston Coliseum a many of Friday nights as a little boy to watch matches like these. Bruiser Brody, Dusty Rhodes, Snuka, and Rocky Johnson made me become a forever fan of pro wrestling. Please share more.
Two absolute beasts.
They'd probably did their morning workout together the day of this match, adding 45lbs plates on the benches, squats and deadlifts like they were feathers
Naw, Brody wouldn't get caught in a gym with a guy he was rasslin, he kept it kayfabe.
@@canedewey756
You didnt read the interview where he and Lewin went for lunch after doing squats together ?
They sat in thecsame stall and it caught the ear of either Bill Watts,Fritz nor another of those old promoters who was mad at them.
Told em not to be seen together in the town they were working against each other.
They both agreed. So next they they went to eat together in another town!!!🤣😅
Patera was in the best shape of his life here.
Ken Patera literally looks like He-Man here.
Literally the best comment I've seen on youtube
He literally was He-Man then.
This is awesome thanks for sharing. Brody 4 life!
This is wrestling. Best 2 out of 3 fall matches. Old school. Love it. Thank you for bringing it to video
Thanks for uploading this man!!Two behemoths
Never knew these 2 had wrestled. Great match.
Bruiser Brody is a legend for those of us over 50.
Boy Ken is sure big and in great shape...
Around 40 years old here too. Crazy
Pure classics thanks for posting
Watched both of these guys in Stl . Patera was a former Missouri state champion .
Brody was one of my favorites . He was just awesome for a bigger guy .
To bad that they didn't do more to help him when he was stabbed in Porto Rico .
I'd liked to have seen him as a World Champion .
invader1 deserves to be murdered
'Nobody messes with Ken Patera, and if you have a problem with that I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn, asshole!"
This was a great old school match
Temper Terra never disappoints. Brody looks good as well.
All four guys in the ring at the end were big bulky tough and mean looking.
Nothing to do with the acrobats, cheerleaders and gymnasts of today's sports entertainment.
I use to workout at pateras gym in Minnesota he is so nice very cool guy
This is an excellent match. Both men are incredibly fit and bad ass!
Thanks I didn't know I needed this match but I did
Hell yes. More please.
Brody was big but Ken patera man with a body on that dude
Two legit tough guys.
brody didnt care who you were or how big you were he would come after you
Yeah, it was his job.
I heard Houston was a popular spot for wrestling back then and that Paul Boesch was a great promoter who paid wrestlers very well
Brodie is my all-time favorite "wrassler" especially when he was a baby face in Dallas in the late '70's and early '80's. It was devastating when Brody was knifed in Puerto Rico.
And the son of b**** that done it is it still a free man and in the Hall of Fame what a crime
@@darrylnicholson1387 José Huertas González is not in the WWE Hall of Fame.
@@AngelMartinez-fl7vg Carlos Colon is. And he was in on it.
Speculation, I don't believe the owner of the promotion put a hit on a wrestler, specially a world renowned one. Invader #1 acted alone IMO.
@@AngelMartinez-fl7vg Colon used his influence in Puerto Rico to be sure that Jose Gonzalez never saw a day in jail. He was complicit in the brutal murder of an innocent man.
Brilliant upload mate,Bruiser & Doctor D are my all time favourites
9:58. Hilarious. This is what made old school wrestling so much fun.
Rare match thanks for uploading....
I never knew these two matched up. Thanks for posting.
Glad you're enjoying it. Never seen another match with them either.
Paul boesch had a lot of great match-ups in Houston
Brody. Such a great face, such a great heel
good stuff keep it coming!
Two of the best ever
Surreal matchup
Love this.
Ken Patera had super human strength, and at this point in his career, had a great physique to go with it.
Vasily Alekseyev, the legendary Russian weightlifting champ, said he thought Patera was stronger than he was. Had Ken been a little bit less unlucky, he might have held several world records, including the ones that Vasily would hold onto for years
@@DeeEllEff Very True!
Brody was bigger and muscular himself. Patera was ripped and huge .
Both definitely on the gas here.
Patera was also around 300 lbs at this point, and you can see Brody lift him for a body slam using only one arm! These two are truly superhuman monsters.
A 'Main Event' match in any arena in the country.
Brody in the ring with someone who has a big power advantage is rare .
Patera looks like he can bench press a dump truck. Fully loaded.
yeah, a Tonka truck , maybe even a Nylint
Dang. Patera was more jacked than I remember.
barbell plates and t-bone steaks
Patera's physique went through four phases of transformation in His Athletic career ...
And today , as an old man , he looks like a regular Grandpa.
@@stephenkinq5425 Old age takes your body from you . He put it to good use and got out of it everything it had .
@@pooddescrewch8718 still in good shape for his age.
Awesome! Thanks Rob !
The fact Ken Patera is not in the WWE/ Wrestling Observer Hall of Fames invalidates both of them
we never got to see the bruiser up here in new england but we knew the name. ken patera was in the wwf for a while. two really big guys.
Is it me or do all the videos of Houston matches on RUclips seem to stretched out vertically? It seems like the ring is 40 x 40 and the guys all look way bigger than normal.
Fun fact, Ken Pateras brother John ( or Jack) was an NFL head coach with the Seattle Seahawks.
Ken ..was at the.. Muddy Cow.. may
2023. North Branch.. Minnesota
Book signing. 🍺.
Ken Paterna should be in WWE HOF
Why? It's a joke. Vince McMahon is an individual of incredibly low moral character. Ken is better off not being in it.
The WWE HOF is a joke! For crying out loud, they have SD Jones in there!
Joe Paterno should be in there too. And Al Pacino
Why not?
GO BRODY!!
Oh Hell, another Brody video
Classic!!!
5 star matchup
Ken Patera was chiseled and very muscular here . Ripped
Hogan vs brody is box office.
BRODY wins!!!
Patera was a legit physical specimen. Great heel during his prime
The big bruiser from Waxahatchie, TX!!
No, he was from St. Fe New Mexico.
Imagine a real fight between these two.
Alwayus good to see Patera get a good working
Awesome match.
Every time I see. Bruiser Brody to this day or think about him, I think it's a damn fucking shame the way that man was murdered in Puerto Rico (for those that don't know) look it up and to think in the fucking shower and his fellow wrestlers did nothing about it....not even help the man get medical attention cold blooded business only Tony Atlas helped.
Patera and Kurt angle would have been awesome tagteam
Anybody else hear that lady screaming?
It seems like somebody is killing some of her family hahahha
Probably Jim Cornette 🤣
those blue collar fans or the 70s were great
Great match!
awesome !
you can see patera didnt care much for the top turn buckle lol
Patera looked “small” next to Brody. The good old days. They ain’t never coming back
Petra had muscles on muscles here. He was chiseled.
Wrestling at its best!!
more classic please.
1:16 what everyone says about batman vs superman
This was wrestling, not the crap we see today
Back when wrestlers looked like action figures
they still look like action figures, they look like 5'4'' the Fonz with his 33'' chest , eh ?
Ken was chiseled and ripped . In great shape . Muscles on top of muscles
Its funny to think Kenny in his prime could Military Press almost as much as Frank Could Deadlift..
Is that Bruce Pritchard at 6:12 picking up that chair?
What about a bruiser Brody on steroids 😳
Man handled him already
I'm a huge Brody fan but Patera could have literally snapped Brody in half if he wanted to without question. Frank was a tough guy and legend but people are kidding themselves thinking he could legitimately take Ken Patera in a shoot 💯
Both were tough guys but I'd go with Brody over Patera in a shoot.
Yes because the strongest guy always wins in a fight, every time, always.
ken patera should have had a run as a AWA CHAMPION
Bruiser is scarier than the Motorhead logo💪
Seems like Houston wrestling really emphasised wrestling. Fast becoming my favourite go to promotion to get my wrestling fix
Those chair shots
Lol
I had forgotten how jacked Patera was!
Brody makes Ken Patera look small, wow
At 6'8 300 lbs yeah Brody was a monster of a man.
Bother were absolutely huge and strong.
@@xhuntarianx Brody was 6'4
@@kevthegoat8774 no he wasn't, he was always listed at 6'8" and he claimed himself he was 6'6". Look at him next to 6'4" Stan Hansen and he is clearly a couple inches taller.
@@xhuntarianx Brody was listed at 6'4 in the NFL, Stan Hansen even stated Brody was 6'4 in a shoot interview, Brody wasn't a couple of inches taller at all. Jerry Oates also stated Brody was 6'4. He clearly doesn't even look 6'8 anyway. Remember wrestling is known for huge exaggerations.
So sad about Brody, imagine if he would have never gotten done what happened to him, what a coward the guy who stabbed hom
When WRESTLING was WRESTLING. Not this "ENTERTAINMENT" crap.
The TV graphics are new that I remember the match
Use to see Houston Wrestling every Saturday
Thank God and Cowboy Luttrall for Gordon Solie
No circus moves just plain smash mouth wrestling !!
When real men populated pro wrestling, not like todays fashion models.
i dont remember if i ever saw patera bleed in any match. thoughts
Haku vs brusier brody would have been some match. RIP brusier.😊
Ken Patera looks jacked !!! Ken looking his best !!!
