This song is the reason I am alive today. I struggled with addiction to meth and heroine due to chronic pain and mental health disorders, I have attempted suicide three times, have been hospitalized countless times and never wanted to give up my drugs because they would numb pain so well. I am now a year clean as of November 2021 from everything. I was in a very dark time and honestly didn't think I would see my 30th birthday.. Anyways, I was forced into a rehab facility that was based in Christian faith, even though I wasn't a believer at the time. I would have left the facility if it wasn't for this song. It was played so many times. Every Sunday and Wednesday worship this was played and on Thursdays everyone was able to recommend songs and this was played every Thursday as well. Then I joined in on the kitchen crew and this was on their Playlist while we prepared food. The only reason I stayed was to keep hearing the song and the feeling in the room when everyone would scream this song at the top of their lungs, or we would all gather and pray. I seen so many grown men cry to this song, including myself. Thank you for this. I honestly don't know if I would be here today if this song wasn't produced.

Heard this for the first time coming home from a 2 a.m. run to Walmart (one of my insomnia nights). Immediately RUclipsd it after it went off the radio. Stopped to get gas and was jamming in my car with the door open when someone asked me what I was listening to. I didn't think about it (nor did I really care) but there was a small bar in the same strip mall as the convenience store and the young lady who asked about the song was leaving the bar. She said she had been waiting to get gas as well but was waiting to ask about what I was listening to. She said she had no idea there was Christian music like that. I jotted down a few of my favorites as well as the name and address of my church. She said she had to work 2 weekends to get one off and she knew she really needed to get back in church. Next weekend should be her off weekend so we will see. If nothing else, this song touched her at that moment and I always like to think that is a start!

I grew up with a father that would crush me mentally and physically if I did something wrong no matter how minor didn't matter. I have association of mistakes with punishment and pain. It is so hard for me to understand grace and forgiveness. The act of asking for forgiveness yes but understanding the freedom of forgiveness is so hard for me. Understanding grace is hard to for me. How can someone do something wrong and not have to experience punishment. Only through Jesus do I get to experience this. My wife noticed early in our relationship which started at 12 that I would freak out and apologize for spilling a glass of water. All I want to hear from Jesus lips is good and faith servant. I don't look to God to see what he can do for me but what I can do for him because he's my only chance to receive a grace I never have.

My brother…I so know how you are feeling at this moment. My earthly father also crushed me (mine was verbal, mental AND physical) - from age 2.5 to age 8 - then Jesus saved him and changed him. The physical and verbal part stopped immediately but the mental part continued for a LOT of years…even after I grew up, moved away and got married…He was an old school military man - and the damage had been done in this young girls heart and mind❤I never thought I would be free from the pain it caused me. I got saved at the same time as my Dad. I didn’t have a mother for 10 years. Just my Dad raising me on his own. However, he did remarry when I was age 12. I fell into drug addiction and was an addict for years trying to drown the pain that I felt deep inside. The Lord delivered me from that bondage back in 2007 but I still felt defeated on the inside for another 13 years…You see I had other issues that needed to be dealt with & the Lord knew that so when I turned 50!! - I’m 57 now. But when I turned 50, I was dealing with depression and had never dealt with true depression until 50 and it was one of the worst seasons of my life. I started (Christian therapy) counseling for the first time in my life at age 52! I wish I would have done that sooner but God’s timing is perfect!❤ My Dad will be 83 on May 25th and I have truly forgiven him for the past - I learned that he did the very best that a single father could do back in the late 60’s/early 70’s. You see, I learned that he did was he was taught by HIS father❤we have the BEST relationship now!❤My Heavenly Father who is the only true good, good Father healed my heart and when I look back on those 10 years when it was just he and I (before he married my Mom) now, I think of the fact that I’m truly grateful that my Heavenly Father saved my earthly father by His grace because he then raised ME to come to where I gave my heart to Jesus Yeshua and now I KNOW Jesus personally because I now have a daily RELATIONSHIP with the best Father in the whole universe!! ❤I will be praying for you Stephen!❤our Heavenly Father is no respecter of persons - he has no favorites with His children - what He does for one - He will do for another of His children! Don’t give up praying and asking Him for what you need - we have not because we ask not - and keep praying and asking - His timing is perfect!❤ Blessings & Hugs from NC❤

This was both beautiful and heartbreaking to read. I had a similar experience growing up also, striving to do everything "perfect" and it wasn't u til I got older and someone pointed out I say "I'm sorry " way too much did I notice it. My daily life still rotates around being perfect and ocd-like in many ways and always the hardest worker anywhere I go! I was raised as a JW and broke away once I was on my own, thought I had enough religion shoved down my throat, that is until my brother died and it took me to the deepest depths of hell and depression but at rock bottom I had no where else to turn except to Jesus and he gave me his love and mercy and saved me from myself! Forgiveness was something that I struggled with for a long time, especially forgiving my dad, but just like yours, my dad was raised that way, too, so that's all he knew was to be abusive. Now that I'm older, I'm glad I was raised so strict and it kept me out of a lot of trouble along the way! I'll be 40 next year and to this day, I'm STILL worried about what my day would think or say, the fear never seems to completely go away. My heart goes out to both of you and anyone else who went through this type of childhood reading this now! Jesus loves you and I love you, too! Healing your inner child takes lots of time and work but it's worth it❤😊
