- LC-1B is based within Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1, the world’s first private orbital launch site, located in Mahia, New Zealand. The new pad is Rocket Lab’s third for the Company’s Electron launch vehicle and joins the existing Pad A at Launch Complex 1 and a third launch pad at Rocket Lab Launch Complex 2 in Virginia, USA.
Congratulations Rocket Lab, hopefully your launch cadence can now increase from >10 a year to somewhere near your potential 100+ launches a year
The launch complex has always been one of my favorite things about rocket lab. Just look at the view! It's majestic!
We live here; one road in and one road out.
Mahia East Coast rd has been destroyed by Rl building of the facility.
We are not against Rl but we are livid they do not look after the fragile road that feeds their launchpads.
My taxes just doubled here on the peninsula and I bet Rl pays even less from these latest increases to residents.
Absolutely majestic Devin
@@5455jm That's disappointing to hear
You guys should come out with more content like this. It's really great to watch your company grow!
Almost impossible to pick a more beautiful spot for a launch facility.
Cool to see two rockets beside each other
It's amazing that they can launch rockets from Middle Earth.
Never trust them nasty hobbits
Aragon: You have my sword.
Legolas: And you have my bow.
Gimli: And my axe
Rocketlab: And our LC-1B
@@leonmusk1040 what's that you say? Musk? A servant to the lord in the void and dark forces.
@@olorin1710 Musk is Smaug.
....its the fourth age
I remember seeing the 2nd launch of the electron rocket back in 2018 it’s amazing to think how far you guys progressed
Now I want to see them do a double launch. I think that would be awesome to see Rocket Lab achieve this. I wish Rocket Lab the best of luck in their adventures and wish them all the success that they have coming.
Oh my, robotic towers are cool but a little janky right now. However the mahi peninsula, GORGEOUS! No wonder it has such a proud place in Maori tradition, and only got more cooler with the addition of two of the sexiest sleekest most efficient spaceports I have ever seen. And I keep up to date with all the pads in the world. From China, to Russia, the United States, to Britain, heck did you know that Spain is thinking about launching rockets off of its Coast! Even Brazil is thinking about the same thing, The future is bright! Thank you rocket lab and good luck with Neutron. Keep up the good work up there, for all of us down here!
Congrats to you Peter and the people working at Rocket Lab! Y'all are doing great work and pushing the bar forward!
Rocket Lab has impressed me so much, I bought some of your stock earlier this year. This is coming from someone who has never had any interest in the stock market, but I have confidence in all of you.
Through "Hatch" ?
What a thing of Beauty! Rocket Lab is always striving for greatness! 🚀🚀
Congratulations all..! Be fun to see a simultaneous launch, if that's something you're aiming for.
Can't wait for 1C, 1D & 1E 😁
Yeah I don't think simultaneous is possible. The vibrations alone would make it incredibly dangerous to the rockets. Unless they were willing to lose both rockets.
They need to get other time constraints down before adding another pad
Congratulations Rocket Lab! Looking forward to the upcoming mission!
I love this company so much. Amazing tech and attitude.
You are doing so much progress. A couple of years ago i was not as convinced but I'm glad to stand corrected! Good job guys!
Well done Rocket Lab, indeed you have the most beautiful launch pad in the world.
The thing that I like the most about rocket lab is that they have that black themed rockets that looks cool
I love Rocket Lab so much. I'm so excited what else 2022 has in store for them! LC-1 is stunning to say the least. Absolutely beautiful spot to host a rocket launch from.
Looking good. I look forward to seeing the first launch from the new pad!
Hands down, the coolest launch location there is
Glad pad b is ready I was always wondering where that concrete road was gonna go for the longest time
What a great bunch you have Peter. It must be a pleasure to work with such a dedicated team. Best of luck on the next launch guys!
Gotcha!...@1:25 looks like that sheep is keen to go lol
This guy seems so calm and competent. I am glad that Rocket lab is under his leadership
And, if you launch your payload from there you get a sweet trip to New Zealand - my favorite place!
Huge space nerd here guys!!! Wish you all the best and will promise to watch all the launches!
Beautiful! There's always something exciting happening at Rocketlab! Can't wait to see the helicopter catching rockets out of the sky!
The new launch complex looks so sick
Amazing work, Rocket Lab!!! Can't wait for LC-1B's debut!
Can either pad be modified to launch Neutron or will you need a new pad for that? I'm guessing the second option.
Best of luck!!!! Reach for the stars!
It will need a new pad, but it won't need as much infrastructure, at least as I understand it per current design. The pad itself will be basically a flat concrete area which will also serve as a landing pad. There won't be an erector system as that infrastructure will be built into the rocket itself will have the piping necessary to fill the upper stage, so the upper stage will essentially be dropped into the first stage, the fairing closed, and it'll be ready to fly again.
It also won't fly out of New Zealand, as from what Peter said during one of the many interviews he gave after the Neutron update was that the Liquid Oxygen production in New Zealand is such that there's not enough capacity to fill a Neutron for a single launch.
The launch site hasn't been announced at the moment. I think it was originally going to be Wallops, but that was long before the update and Peter mentioned that several were under consideration but that it's not going to be announced any time soon.
@@firefly4f4 Thanks for the very complete answer!!!! That was super informative :D
Amazing to see that Rocket Lab is expanding they're launch capability.
These guys are seriously kicking goals!
Thanks for the update Peter! Keep up all the hard work!
I've been very hyped with the economical potential of the upcoming Neutron rocket. Many SpaceX fanboys forget that big part of the launching costs, comes from maintaining a launching infrastructure, Staff, and propellant. Not only the costs of the rocket by it self. And retrieving it by naval means and refurbishment requirements, also increases the costs by a big margin.
Indeed.
@@HanSolo__ for a reason Falcon 9 launching values charged to NASA to LEO, aren't getting substantially lower.
Bla Bla bla
Well done to the team at Rocket Lab, a wonderful addition to the best looking launch location in the world 🚀
Congrats, Peter Beck! Ever expanding launch capacity. On to Venus!
Congratulations Rock Lab , what a great time to be alive
Looks great. Looking forward to 2022 launches with "Rocket Cams".
Excellent presentation and from a business perspective then it really, really looks like you guys know what you are doing. In addition it’s great to hear that it sounds like you have plenty of orders but most importantly: the Rockets look cool! 😎🚀🙏 Nice one and I look forward to following your adventures in the future! Ciao!
My favourite company in the world. Keep making us dream!
You guys are awesome! So glad I'm invested in your company. Keep it up...
Most impressive shot for me is the 4 people rolling the rocket to the pad. I mean how lightweight is this thing (without fuel)?
I was thinking the same thing... no complicated crawler, just some framing and wheels that look like they came from the local hardware store (or would, if "local" and "Mahia" belonged in the same sentence).
As to the question, I believe the booster is about one tonne dry... I remember looking it up during one of the discussions about helicopter catching. So presumably under two tonnes with the dry upper stage and payload.
Thanks for the tour.
This launch site is what dreams are made of. Literally need more pics.videos of it
Looking forward to seeing many live rocket 🚀 launches. Congratulations 👏
well, one can only congratulate and wish you all the success!
CANT WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT LAUNCH!
If the FAA has it's way you will continue to have the only privately owned launch complex. All joking aside, great work on all aspects.
hahahaha
Congratulations Rocket Lab! 🙌🚀🙌
That was quick, lovely
Looking forward to all of these pads getting a lot of use. Will love to see the one Electron pad at Wallops get some action later this year after the AFTS there can get approval by NASA. Good luck! And don't forget the Neutron pad "coming soon"... ;-)
Awesome job Rocket Lab! I wonder what kind of time intervals we can expect between the launches on pad LC-1A and LC-1B. 🚀🚀
Cannot wait to visit one day, only a short hop away from Welly so must get up there soon. Good luck with Neutron Dev. love the idea of full and rapid re-usability
Ain’t no party like a Pad B party. Great aerials!! 🎸 🙌🏼 🍺. 🚀
Rocket Lab and SpaceX tie on the badassery scale, like damn guys.
You guys get a 👍 from me for having the most beautiful launch site in the world. But don't get me wrong... your rockets are seriously impressive, too! 😁
I can't wait to see Neutron become an operational reality! 🚀
Congrats Rocket Lab!!
Thanks, these videos are awesome keep them coming!
Way to go, rocket lab really knows how to get to job done
Awesome Congratulations on the second Pad On Wards and Up Wards Go Rocket Lab Thanks
Nice! Love to see the progress
Those are some good looking rockets
0:31 BALLISTIC MATE !
Rocketlab and Astra have the launchsites with the best views
Can wait to see 2 electrons launch at once and dock together in flight, becoming Electron Heavy.
Amazing stuff beck!
Great News guys. Thanks for Sharing & Good Luck
One step closer to the corpo wars!
Seriously though this is pretty cool
nice update! Thanks Peter and team. Are these two launch pads a bit too close to each other?
Amazing!!!! Congrats Rocket Lab!!!
I'm pretty sure there is another privately owned launch facility somwhere in south Texas...
Not orbital. (Yet)
There's not one that has launched to orbit, Yet :) Go Starship.
Not sure Blue Origin counts as New Shepard cannot reach anywhere close to orbital velocities.
No - there's a construction site in South Texas which will be a launch facility at some point in the (hopefully) near future.
@@simongeard4824 Blue Origin have a Lunch site in Mid Texas, fairly close to South Texas.
@@favesongslist Nobody cares about suborbital. Yes, technically it could be called a launch site, but pedants aside, it's not necessary to specify "orbital" every time... the point of a launch site is to send things to orbit.
Beautiful!!
Well done guys.... Great to see...
Oh I so want to see this place and a rocket taking off. Its on the 'to do' list. Exciting
I love you RocketLab!!!!
Yes! Great job Rocket Lab!
Great work guys 🙌
Beautiful location, but I'm very curious about the logistics of placing the facility out there. All they have to worry about are disturbing a few sheep, and even those don't look to be too startled during a launch. It looks like the nearest ports for shipping are in Gisborne or Napier, and I'm thinking everything is brought in by truck to the site, except for some smaller loads, which could be flown in from Wellington or Auckland? It's good to see Rocket Lab successful!
this is so compact! amazing! go team 🎉🚀💯
Awesome music. I'm pumped!
Good on you and good luck!
Hi RocketLabs, Being born in HB and spending a lot of my holidays in Mahia, I was wondering where at the staff live? I guess you have accommodation close to the pad as Mahia town is still quite a drive away.
1:24 photobombing sheep. Continued great work on vertical integration!
Fantastic RL ⚛️ 🚀🚀 absolutely love this site and a beauty sight it is 👏🏽
Exciting. You'll need that extra launch capacity once you reuse some boosters
As always, amazing work
Will the road, air and ship infrastructure be able to bring anything larger there, any time soon?
Looks like it's remote, at the end of a long dirt road.
Love you guys!!!! ❤️🚀❤️
Looks like a James Bond villain facility!!! Awesome
Been there, was not allowed to enter. no tour. had to watch the launch on the west-coast. got my car stuck. was a nice day. anyway, keep it going. and perhaps consider adding a tour on your site
I hope to watch a launch one day at Mahia
As a kiwi (New Zealander) im EXTREMELY happy that there is a launch site in this small country
NZ is bigger than average thanks ;p
@@lewtscott3346 it can do a surprising lot of things I live there!
@@NoahOfNewZealand Yes, even with such handicaps
Outstanding!
Look at the nice clean rooms and the weather in NZ! Don't look at the stock price.
Go Rocket Labs!
i hope soon to be able to travel to new zealand and see a launch....it was always something i thought about ...a space program in new zealand....
Congratulations looking forward to see the 1b's maiden launch 🤩
PS Is Neutron also launching from Mahia?
Not enough LOX in NZ for Neutron
Nga mihi Rocket Lab...I have seen you grow strength to strength within Aotearoa New Zealand and the USA...
Can someone explain this to me… I’m very confused by this.
They currently have the capability to launch every 72 hours?
They don’t use this capability.
They built a 3rd pad to continue to be constrained by their ability to build rockets?
It's not about launching EVERY 72 hours. It's about Launching 2 rockets within 72 hours if need be.
Also, they don't use this capability "yet". But they have plans in action to step up their ability to build rockets faster. And that would be dumb if you don't have the site to launch it from, wouldn't it?
They have the required legal approvals in place to launch every 72 hours, that's what they mean by 'capability'. That's way more complex and time-consuming to achieve than building more pads.
You could have all the pads you wanted in the USA but still not be allowed to launch that often due to FAA regulations (the same thing that's currently holding up Starship).
It likely also provides some redundancy if there is an issue on one of the pads (that doesn't necessitate a full grounding of all vehicles).
@@slithery9291 Well that doesn't appear to be true (the part about launches that often due to FAA). SpaceX has launched a couple of times within 72 hours. They were just different pads, Launch 133 on 12/19/21 was on pad SLC-40 and 12/21/21 was on LC-39A. They are adjacent launch facilities. if we include the California Launch site, they did 3 launches in 4 days recently.
The FAA review is for the new Texas site, If they get approval they can go ahead and continue to launch there as they like. If not, SpaceX already said they already have the approval to launch Starship in Florida.
Space is hard, congratulations!
I like how Peter Beck is like Elon Musk, but much more normal. No tweeting nasty stuff, no fighting with the SEC, just plain rocket science competence. I like that.
Rocket Lab is badass.
