First of all sorry for your loss Ken.After cartridge shaving for about 30 years I discovered your channel a couple of months ago, very good, awesome channel!! As you advised I ordered a merkur 34C and G just for trying out and I got a sample package of blades with several brands in it.I choose the Gillette Platinum(black/white box) as my first DE blade with the proraso red soap, and Omega brush (synth.).I enjoyed my shave as never before, did a 3way pass,no nicks or blood, just a fantastic bbs shave. A totally zen moment :)).Thank you very much how you teached me and more viewers how to DE shave.I live in The Netherlands and here in our stores there are only cartridges, no DE blades. You order them in specialized online stores thankfully there are a lot of them.As far as aftershaves you can get the older ones here like old spice, fresh up,brut, tobac, also the brands you have in the States. I wish you a very nice weekend, looking forward to see your next video. Sincerely, Francois Jongmans.
I look at as a hobby/slash crutch too Ken, ,never looked forward to shaving before as now,,,,not been in the wet shaving game long. But now sold. specially in these harsh times.
The Blackbird is probably my favorite razor and especially when I have 2 or more days of growth. The head geometry really lends itself to an amazingly close yet comfortable shave. Without hyperbole, it helped me improve my overall technique to where my weepers have all but disappeared. I can get practically BBS in two passes. Oh...and the CK-6 takes copious amounts of water and my favorite vegan base by far.
Hi Ken- So very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend; sincere condolences. Great shave and fantastic product reviews; thank you! What a great range of shaving gear. The Blackbird brass razor is just beautiful- really nice! I just received a Blackland Vector razor today, and naturally I am looking forward to your review, as well. I’ll be using mine first thing tomorrow morning! I hope you have a peaceful weekend ahead and best regards!
That looks like a really nice razor Ken. My sincere condolences to you as your grief your friend's passing. What a blessing to have a friend for 30 years. Not many people can say that.
The SR-71 was a high altitude fast reconnaissance aircraft not a fighter or bomber developed by Kelly Johnson of the Skunk Works in California for the USAF.
Sorry about your friend. In a similar situation too. My great grandmother died this past Friday on the day that I had to move after one of the worst weeks I’ve ever had. I had to pull an all nighter on Friday getting ready to finish moving on Saturday so I didn’t really get to soak it in when it happened. Had her funeral yesterday and I needed some shaving videos
Great video Ken, sorry for your loss of a friend, I know how you must be feeling, my son passed away at the age of 32 in 2017 and will always feel the loss, but your videos my friend, bring me a bit of peace and a few chuckles so many thinks, see you in the next vid all the best.
For those that are interested in the scent: this is, to my nose, a woody oriental with a very slight powdery note. Comparable to Bois du Portugal by Creed. If you enjoy this or scents such as Heritage Eau de Parfum by Guerlain I think you will love this.
Learned to drive in a 1976 Volkswagen Bug. Learned to wet shave with my Panasonic. Arc5…at least the soap and brush, and then moved on to my Feather AS-D1. I still use the Arc5 on days with little time.
Just discovered your channel and have been binge watching your video’s daily !!! Keep up the awesome work...you’ve inspired me to ditch the cartridge and start wet shaving 👍🏻
Ken, you should give the Christopher Bradley razor a try. Also brass, very tightly machined, shaves beautifully. I've gotten great shaves with it on a D plate, like a Merkur 34C but some more aggression.
Another great video as usual Ken! I got the Blackland Vector for Christmas and love it. Looking forward to seeing your video on it. Wish I could make the Big Shave SW this year; I went to the one in Florida last year and had a great time. This will be my second year attending the Maggard Razors Meet Up in June. It’s a great get together, hopefully you’ll be able to come to one sometime. Rick
Sorry for your loss Ken. Beside that sad news another great video and a spectacular shave. I was holding my breath when I saw this monster gliding over your skin and heard the blade cutting the hair. The soap looked thick and creamy, can’t wait to sniff it at the Big Shave S’West 😉
Just ordered this Blackbird in Polished Brass, SB, and inkwell stand. Can’t wait to try it out! Will hopefully match up nicely with my Rex Ambassador, and Timeless Polished Titanium 0.95 SB 😊
My sincere condolences in regards to your friend, Ken. I am sure I speak for all of your fans around the world. I enjoyed seeing the Blackbird in action. I don't suspect I'll move on from my Aristocrats and Fatboy anytime soon, but it's nice to see one of these new heavy hitters! Looks like a great piece!
Sorry for your loss buddy. Great shave you really inspire me to try new soaps and product I love it you have helped me makes this task I do every other day a hobby and I enjoy it waiting for my crystal skull cant wait! Have a good one friend.
Sorry for your loss, Ken. Your friend's ghost knocked your camera down to let you know that he's alright. May he rest in peace. Great shave and love that razor.
I understand I'm a bit late but so sorry for the sad news. So the razor, I've seen their polished versions and oh boy are they shiny or what. Blackbird and Vector is on my list to buy, trying to choose one of the either just don't know which to choose.
On the topic of brush soaking. I found it made a bigger difference with boar brushes. If I don't soak my semogue boar brush for at least 10 mins it sheds like crazy.
Fantastic Shave Ken. Mind you those Products are all Awesome my friend. Tat Razor is SUPERB and I Love PAA Products and cannot wait for that one to hit the Website. Usually takes just over a week to get to the UK from Arizona..!!
Great video! I have been away from shaving for 5 months. I was thinking I wanted to grow a beard, but then I missed shaving so much, I couldn't take it anymore! Lol! I've been a longtime subscriber and love your vidoes. I'm glad to be back in the shaving world!
No apologies needed Ken, heck, when you're sick and personal things happen, you gotta do what is right👌 Nice shave💈💈 I had the Blackland Dart razor, they said it was less aggressive than the Blackbird🙄 yeah right, wound up giving it to my son and he says it's almost too aggressive for him. PAA soaps are a stellar performer and the scents are fantastic IMO, have way more than I need😉 I got one of the CC heavyweight copper bowls when they came out, really nice. Great video with added excitement😁 Enjoy!
Awesome shave brother liked it all.. sorry about your buddy, it’s hard to lose people you care about either friends or family. Unfortunately at our age they start going all to fast, you only have a couple years on me so I feel it too..
First of all, I send my condolences for the loss of your friend. That is a great looking razor, I prefer a bit of aggression in my razors. The soap looks to be a great performer as well. Thanks for sharing the video, Ken!
Great shave. Sorry to hear about your friend. I know how it feels. Great looking razor. I won't lie, brass or gold razors look beautiful. Have a great weekend
Good afternoon Ken. Solid video and a great shave. I like the look of the CK-6 formula soaps. I like musk, so I am eager to smell the John Frum scent. Blackland makes a great razor; it bit on the aggressive/efficient side. Sorry to hear of your loss. Take care.
Wow Ken nice Shave!, this razor looks like a Jet plane to me and the brass gives it a smooth and classic look, and musk is always good :), I would like to use the same in my videos soon.
Sorry for the loss of your long time friend, condolences. Doug really knows his stuff, great products from PAA👍 The Blackland Blackbird is a beautiful razor, just too aggressive for me..too bad😒 I have the Dart and it's aggressive as well. Great video as always. Enjoy!

Great job Ken! Thanks for your work.. I keep coming back to my favorite DE.. the Merkur 33c... I would enjoy this Rockwell.. and I think I would really gravitate to the 34HD gold version.. Best!Frank from Boulder,Colorado
Im interested in seeing how that razor looks once it starts to develop a patina. They are making the longer handles for the stainless blackbirds in spring. I cant decide if i want to wait till then or get the brass. I think patina looks really cool i just cant decide if i want it on a $200 razor or not ..lol.
Sorry for your loss Chief, long time since I watched your videos. Hey Ken, what do you think about the PAA CK6 formula vs the Kokum butter formula? Also, what's you favorite 5 soaps from PAA? Greetings from Puerto Rico and be safe out there!
Everything changed ken but your enjoyable beautiful talks,, get better and better and yeah I have that 101 mm varient I think,, mild razor for me, nice and honest review... I also like that.☺

Great shave and video Ken. We've not seen that phone mount fall for months until now and Monty loves chasing and barking at the mail man. Blackland makes some great products but they are expensive though at $200 dollars. I would love to get their new SE Vector which uses Feather Artist Club style blades. Sorry to hear about your friend passing away. 30 years is a long time.
Stephen Davidson It was a fast weekend. I saw him last Tuesday in the hospital and got the phone call Saturday at lunch. Funeral was 10:00 Sunday. Was super fast
Another great video ken I really like that razor thinking about picking it up but not sure because I also want a adjustable and that’s the most you ever talked about a soap going to need to pick it up you should try aqua d/g from Douglas/paa I really like it
Sincere condolences for your loss. Gone, but not forgotten...living on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Sorry for the loss of your long time friend, condolences. Nice shave, nice razor Ken💈💈 I think you'll find if you start with a damp, not wet brush, you'll get better lather by adding a few drops of water at a time until you find the saturation/explosion point. Wazzup Ken!
Ran across this video a bit late, but as always, really enjoy your work.
I congratulated you on the Rockwell 6S pickup sometime back, and especially congratulate you on the Blackbird acquisition.
Added one of those late last year, and despite my longtime trepidation about getting one, I finally gave in. The guys on DFS kept raving about the shave from it, and so, I bit the bullet.
I've found the Blackbird only feels aggressive. It's not so easy to generate a weepah, but man, it is very efficient.
I've gotten some of the best ever BBS shaves with it, and even use Feathers in it without disaster.
This weekend, Shane at Blackland announced a new razor for the fall. Seems an outfit called Tradere made some of the early high-end razors of the current DE wet-shaving renaissance back about five years ago. They were considered pretty great tools at the time, but due to contracted producer issues, quit making them.
Blackland will start making them again, and you might be interested in one yourself.
Haven't tried their "Vector" yet...but might. Limited blade choice has me on the fence tho.
Anyway, glad you upped your game to modern high-end tools. The old stuff was probably good, but today's CNC machine work really takes things to new heights.
I dunno if you've tried Karve or Charcoal Goods yet...but they're pretty awesome gear too.

@@kensurfs that was fast.
Stephen Davidson very fast
Another great video ken I really like that razor thinking about picking it up but not sure because I also want a adjustable and that’s the most you ever talked about a soap going to need to pick it up you should try aqua d/g from Douglas/paa I really like it

Beautiful razor. Seems more steampunk than jet plane, though... On YOUR scale of 1-10 how aggressive would you rate it?
yojimbo21 it was probably a 7-8. Pure BBS shave though👍💈
