Went to Eagle River several times in the 70's and still enjoy this racing. Miss the twin tracs, hated motocross. I'm 72 now, watching in my shorts and beach chair. I dont miss standing outside all day as a spectator in minus 30 weather but that separated the men from the boys as we used to say. Good gear and a large coffee laced with rye helped keep us warm.
@@billconnell9169 There are still some of the old races on RUclips with the Wahls, Decker, the Vessair brothers who dominated the twin track Formula races then.
In the 1980's my Dad raced 1/8th mile drags on his sled. The trick that he used was the clutch. You play around with the weights in the clutch, and you can get it to engage right around 8,000 rpm's. That gives you a holeshot everytime and he won most of the races we was entered in. His buddy had a twin track and he raced the ovals. They got his sled to engage somewhere around 7,000 rpm's and he'd get the holeshot most times too. I was off in the military so I didn't get to see them race too much. I did get to race my Dad's sled two times, and that was awesome.
Doug, thats an awesome story. And thank you for your Military service by the way! There are many tricks that we use to increase the engagement RPM. In this F500 class due to the style of track that is required, traction is somewhat limited. So if we engage too high you might just sit and spin.
@@billconnell9169 Dad also highly modified his rear suspension too. You probably can't modify those sleds like he did. It took off like a rocket. The other sleds spun their tracks too. They hadn't figured out the suspension trick. hahaha. There were lots of other things he had done. Too much to write in here. Thanks for the reply. I didn't do anything special in the military, but thanks.
I raced stock class on my 340 '78 Blizzard 6500+, made only one year under that moniker, that was a great sled, but tough to beat a Merc Sno Twister 340 though in that class. I sure miss that little sled.
BTW: Out of all my machines back then, one of the most fun was my twin track Raider. Great ride for poker runs & such! Did some local racing with a Scorpion.
This is cool . First time watching . I can guarantee I will never watch this live as I sit on my back porch in shorts and t-shirt and 70 degrees 12-28-21.
At the Derby Track and the Wausau 525 they have very nice indoor heated seating areas with catered food and drink. You don't have to sit in the cold to watch these races.
@@billconnell9169 thank you for info might just take you up on it. I met no disrespect to the track or style of racing. I am just a Georgian who doesn't hang out where it's cold very often. Happy New Year and thanks for Info

This is a class called F500. They are 500cc liquid cooled stock engine, exhaust, and carbs. It's not the fastest class but it's one of the most popular classes with a high sled count. That's awesome that you raced a 650 EXT back in the day. What a beast.
Now THIS is snowmobile racing! The snowcross is boring. Used to hit Traverse City & The SOO also for the triple crown in the seventies. No twin trackers anymore?
Twin trackers don't race anymore. One reason is that they are very valuable and most of them sit in collections. Another reason is that they had cleated tracks which are no longer legal and so someone would have to invest in manufacturing a rubber track for them.
@@billconnell9169 Thank you so much for the reply! Even my wife was excited to see your channel pop up. First thing she said was; Remember the twin track Skidoo's racing at Interlochen Michigan? ( We used to live there)

Its like a mix between NASCAR and speed skating! I must start watching this.
Do they have racing like this in Canada 😊🇨🇦🇺🇸
I don't follow this but that first guy sure looked like he has been taking lessons from a soccer player.
Was hoping to see Larry Enticer out there. He would absolutely "Send It" for the win! 🏁 🏆 🤣
Somebody should give him a celebrity ride on a race prepped Enticer!
"Send it" into the wall.
The ‘Denim Destroyer’
This should be on tv!
This sport could definitely benefit from more fans and exposure.

Nice. But it was better in 1973 when the late great Bob Eastman won on a 650 Polaris Starfire on SNOW.

I am trying to put a series together racing 1970's riding lawn mowers.
That sounds like fun. I hope that you are able to put together the series. What state are you in?
Eagle River needs to work on that Track, That is one rough track to race on. I see now why racers like the track in Beausejour Manitoba Canada.
With over 800 entries all running on one track and weather that wasn't best for ice making, I'd say they did/do the best that they can.
TV! Can almost smell them 2 strokes
Nothing better than the smell of two stroke race fuel in cold crisp air.
YESSS!!

I miss the days when I was just a wee lad in the pits for Ole Carl Swartz reminds me of those late nights hanging out with him and my old man
This looks like an absolute kick in the butt ! 😀
Vintage ain't got nothin' to do with speed with these sleds.

Where is 2024 race for Jan 21st
20 inches of carbide everything u could find to put on the track to hook up drag ur helmet hanging of to get it turned those were the days
In this F500 class you are allowed 6" carbide max per ski. Quite different from the 20" that was needed back in the Golden days.
Well done sir

To set the ice picks into the ice for more traction during takeoff.
