Isn't the girl singing about how she's envious about that one girl girl who has everything that she wants? She wants to be 'the girl' who is with the guy she's in love with.

Love it. Everyone here should be able to relate that when you're in a relationship or a breakup you don't care what anyone says. You're at your weakest and stupidest point. You will be jealous, sad, heartbroken all in one day and then 3 months later ask yourself "Why was I jealous of her/him?" "Why was I heartbroken over that ass?" We all go through it. Even the smartest go through it. This song is addressing that. She's not saying she'll always be jealous of the other woman, or that she will always want him... But in this moment... In the now she does. And if you have never been at that point where you will do something so stupid and that you thought you'd never do with or for someone then you're either to young or you are lying to yourself. I love this song!

Def about a breakup and he left her for another woman. It tells how she is jealous of the woman that he is with now and wishes she was her. Totally agree... what a great twist to a breakup!
This song is about loving a guy so much but knowing that he will never love you back because he loves another girl. The girl who loves him is forced to see the other girl as beautiful because she loves everything the guy loves. She thinks that because he loves the other girl she must something very special. Now she's looking at the girl more and more and realizing it's no wonder why the guy prefers her. It's about the endless cycle of disappointment and self hate a girl goes through when she isn't loved back.

This chic's voice is friggin awesome and made me PULL OVER on the road, something I've always dreamed about~ thank you for writing this song (three moms?), singing it, and playing it whatever radio station I was scanning through. From a musicians standpoint, I hear lots of songs when I hear this (unchained melody, and Rod Stewart's Sailing to name a few) but that's just how music is, there's 12 notes, you're bound to hear familiarities from time to time, and it's hard to know where the threshold lies. I believe copyright infringement is totally bogus unless you're obviously copying something note for note word for word. think about how many 3 chord songs from the 50's that had the almost exact tempo, key, and chords written about the same topics like cars and women. fucking thousands! I seriously hate nothing more than modern country music, but this is certainly a gem...probly because it's not modern country, or any sort of country whatsoever. just an emotional pop song...and a nice one too.

But yea, Mark Ronson did a great Ted Talk based on the point that there is no such thing as true originality in music. You might say you hate this song but you know you cant help but find some type of attraction to it in a deep and painful way. I'm a 38 yr old white male who lives in Los Angeles. I was listening to this song one day and unbeknownst to me my phone can play on speaker phone and in the head phones at the same time. I was wandering why people were looking at me so funny. Its a cool song but its understandable why people could misinterpret it on many levels. Once I got home and took off my headphones and realized they could hear everything I was listening too, I have never felt so embarrassed. Hasn't stopped me from listening to this song on the subway. I just make sure the speaker phone is off.
