Watched video of George Saunders reading a short story. Was moving. Clicked the thumbs up button after appropriate time passed. Noticed loss of ability to use pronouns. Became paranoid. Check that the 'i' key was working. It was. Started questioning reality and life choices. Feeling of dread intense but fleeting. Got distracted and wandered off to another video.
hahaha. Seriously though if you haven't read his short story the semplica girl diaries I recommend it. It's free on the new yorker website. the diary writing style like this is pretty funny and puts you in the mindset of someone trying to jot down big ideas but not wanting to spend time with actually grammar or anything. Plus that story just plays with your head like crazy.
There's a real sadness in this mans work. When he sang the song to go with the children's book the audience laughed at many lines I thought were deliberately melancholy, "today is a beautiful day, but not for you".
I guess if you are having a happy time in your life it sounded down. But some children do not see if the family is in a tough time in there life. I have a son who has been out of work for a year. It touches the family on all sides. There was a lot of truth in his story. It is hard to tell a child he can't have a pony. Be thankful if you can get your son a pony.
what a beautiful story
George Saunders is a genius.

frustrated that his writing style purposefully misses words.
+meloche1syndrome It doesn't usually, it does right now because he's doing semi stream of consciousness.

can Anybody name the song George Saunders sang? it went like 'Oh today is a beautiful day...But not for you'
I don't think George has released any music, but it was something he wrote while writing the book.
And that's what it would sound like if you deleted all the is' s, are ' s and a ' s from a passage of text.
wat
He's clearly not a comedian, but he definitely nailed the "lull you to sleep" part.
+mariokarter13 pretty sure this isn't a comedy bit, genius.
+Joe Burns So the few attempts at humor fell so flat you didn't even notice them?
+mariokarter13 It's not a comedy bit. Doesn't mean it cant have humour...like most novels do.
EsquilaxM True, but the humor was met with dead silence in front of a live audience. If the humor isn't humorous then what is it?
Perhaps humour can be appreciated in silence.
Or perhaps it was the wrong audience.
Actually I think I heard some reaction. Might've been me,though :P
wth is this?
Read a book.
