i had a hairstylist like this once and let me tell you these are the worst kind of stylists! they push products on you, they leave you with an orange yellow uneven mess and through it all they try to make everyone feel better by saying "omg it looks so good!" or "wow the color is REALLY lightening its gonna look so pretty!" when in reality you leave with yellow hair and short $300

AAHH Yeah, I had a stylist like that.. Whenever she said stuff like, it looks so good! I got nervous.. She was good at cutting but her coloring was a mess. She was the first person to ever color my hair so I didn't realize how bad she was until I asked for something other than all over color and it was bad... Also was bad because I knew her outside of hair so I didn't want to drop her... I finally did though.

Princess Kaia this woman has had her hair colored and cut 3x now by this stylist. If you had your hair cut and colored 3x times by the same stylists and didn't figure out you were getting a poor job done that's on you. If you can't look at your own hair after leaving a salon and figure out the color is bad, you've got bigger problems then your hair, sweety. Schedule an eye exam STAT.

Monica Heartsgypsy you're right, personal relationships intertwined with a stylist, particularly family of any sort, I learned to stay clear of years ago. It's easy to forget past mistakes. I don't envy this woman's position at all, she's a bit locked into the situation since she chose to go on YT with her journey. Although, I do think people are being hypercritical of this stylist's work with her client. Actually, I find most comment sections on YT videos toxic af. xo

But... banding. The top 3-4 inches and the mid-shaft down didn’t lift evenly. Surely you noticed that when her hair was wet. 🤨 Love the personality of this channel but it seems like this poor client walks out of your salon with extremely uneven hair levels and tone every single time. I normally don’t post negative comments btw, there’s enough negativity in the world already, but you can’t continue to believe that your work is of professional quality. Growing in your profession, first requires accountability and acknowledgment. If you can’t acknowledge that every single time you’ve done a session on her it wasn’t done evenly, then you can’t fix this process for the next client if you don’t address the mistakes. I say that with the most love, but... warm roots on purpose? Ew. She just walked out with hot roots, level 9-10 at the top level 8 at the bottom and she’s still yellow AF. Not a pretty tone at all. 😔

I haven’t been to a salon in almost a decade because each time I gave someone a chance, they wrecked my hair and left me unhappy but unable to say anything because they pushed this “OMG U LOOK SO GREAT” attitude onto me. “Professional” hairdressers are truly few and far in between, but everyone who went to hair school thinks they’re above everyone else and that they are God’s gift to your hair.

I want you to really listen to me and take this all in. I have been dying hair for over 45 years. When this girl walked in, she looked absolutely stunning. Although she was using the box hair dye, she was still keeping her hair healthy and beautiful. I sit here watching you pushing products and making this girl look like a giant mess. You over processed her hair. You stuck your fancy conditioning formula to cover your mess is basically what you did. This girl needs to stand up to you and tell you what she really thinks. Just take a look before you started and now. Even after you wasted her hair you are razor cutting it when it needs to be conditioned treated, not butchered. In a nutshell you wasted her hair. She would have done much better with a box hair dye than having you get ahold of it. Learn to take criticism. You need more training. Anyone can buy a salon, but it doesn't make them a good hairdresser. Go back to spit curls and leave the dye to the professionals. I feel so bad for this customer. I hope all the hairdressers on this page will stand with me and let you know what you did to this poor girl. If you need to know how to give great treatments ask me what to use and how much to use. There's nothing wrong with not being a good hairdresser, you just need more training. You owe this girl a year of treatments. It's thin and dead. Sincerely yours, Hairdressers who care.

Mrs.bluebublegumdumddum _137 yes and look at all the money she’s making off of ruining hair? And it sometimes can take a few months before the damage starts. Bless this woman, her hair is going to need a rest

Why is Monat bad ladies? I’ve heard that it is bad and I even heard some people are suing because of damage. But I’m curious what is in it that is so bad and how does it ruin the hair? Is it damaging?

    • @cheriser9181

Malinda Smith i don’t sell Monat but I’ve been using it for 2 years and I’ll never use another product on my hair now. And I have used ALL the top rated brands. It’s hands down the best. Period. You have to know which products to use for your hair though and I think most people just assume the deep conditioning one is for everyone. It isn’t.

I’m never do this but oh my god. This is beyond cringe worthy, if she would focus more on her formulas and technique instead of pushing product she would realize that the end result is nothing to be happy about. Her mid shaft is definitely a different level/tone than her roots and ends. And she is NOT a level 10, this technique is so inefficient in so many ways.

Also- I do understand that camera’s aren’t always able to capture the color correctly, but if I go through an entire editing process and notice that the hair doesn’t translate well on camera I would EXPECT people to question it. This video is all we get to see of her hair. If you see that it isn’t looking the same as it did in person, maybe quickly add a clip explaining that. Don’t resort to bashing people in the comments because we see unevenness. Welcome to the public eye. No hairstylist is going to bullshit or lie to you. They are going to give you their professional opinion. I’m all about lifting up other stylists, but I’m also all about being able to accept (kind) critiques when they come my way. That’s how we learn and grow. I’m not about people being rude or hateful, but constructive criticism? You have to be able to handle that.

I’m not a huge fan of high lifts on anyone lower then a level 7. You got her super light which is awesome . I would have colored and lifted her base to 7AA. And just foil the whole head and then tone to make sure the blonde matched all around . Her ends prob won’t lift too much anymore and her roots lifted because their virgin . I would have toned her a 10A all over so the blonde matches and prob doing color instead of high lift wouldn’t have made her so brassy . It def lightened her more then color would but the color wouldn’t be as brassy

It's all about lighting. I can't tell you how many times I've taken pics of my clients hair and it just doesn't do it justice. Some people are just so harsh about every single detail. The application was great and the end result was beautiful and the client was so happy and at the end of the day if you as a stylist feel great about it and your client is over the moon about their hair then you have done your job! That's what it's all about!!

    • @yma0evelyn

It's a shame really as in the last video she was taken outside and you could see the colour better, but in this the lighting is sometimes ok and sometimes terrible.
I've bleached the absolute shit out of my hair and sometimes when I walk into the toilet at work (yellow light, mint green walls) I look at myself and think it looks dark and yellow when in natural light it looks very light and ashy. That is unfortunately the nature of bleached hair it is so transparent it depends on the colour of the light it is reflecting as to what colour you're going to see at that exact moment.

Loved the end result. A lot of people who are criticizing her wouldn’t be able to get this result. Of course there are gonna be some imperfections. Nobody is perfect, and she had years of box black hair color. It’s a huge process, and the next time will be even better, no doubt! Mandie could have easily went over with more lightener, or left the lightener on a bit longer to take out any yellow tones, but in return compromised the hair’s integrity. Better to have healthy hair with slight tonal diffences, than hair breaking off in clumps. Good job Mandie! I’ve learned so much from you over the years!

I just spit water all over my screen but it was worth it, thank you.
Before her trial started, Jodi's lawyers made her dye her bleached hair back to a more natural color. She is dark skin toned and had a mismatched blonde (likely did it herself) that was jarring on the eyes and also made her seem... inauthentic? They made her brunette, gave her a scrunchi from the 80's, and put grandma glasses on her, as part of her reverse makeover. They wanted her to look more homely and plain jane, because the blonde made her seem out of touch w reality. (Which she was.) She was found guilty of murdering her Mormon boyfriend and was eligible for the death penalty, last I checked..

I’ve been watching you for a while and love your work! In my opinion smudging at the bowl after highlights, and not before, gives you lots of spotting at the roots. The after roots looked so bad and didn’t match the rest. This isn’t a lighting issue, why didn’t your hair looked bad or her before? It’s a coloring issue. Next time try and smudge before, wash and blow dry then highlight over. HUGE DIFFERENCE 🙌🏼

When using hi light to bump the base anything for 4 or lower is tricking. A lot have Green in them you balance the NCP when lifting darker color. So once the hi-lift touches blonde the green is gonna show. The hi-lift shifted the blond highlights. Next time I would a base bump her then highlight.

Not going to say anything horrible because most stylists have their own methods and such. I’ve watched enough of your stuff to know that you do give some good tips. I don’t have a channel and wish I did because I do have a natural talent for hair color because I studied myself and educated myself beyond what I learned in school and in salons. the learning process still never stops. the very first thing I would’ve done is managed expectations by letting her know that I’d try to lift as much box color out as I possibly could. But if I couldn’t- we would not want to go platinum or level 9-10 unless we could truly erase the stain that black or dark brown box color leaves. It’s a totally different process for me when it comes to dark box dye. So with that being said- when it came to round three- you ended up with three different colors. The hi lift was left on much longer than five minutes it seemed. But anyway- I don’t want to focus on what you did but just a few things I would’ve tried differently from the start. First- I would have used a nice professional color remover- thoroughly removed that process with shampoo and also the most crucial thing I think would’ve made a nice change here for her would’ve been to use a product for evening porosity. Kenra makes a great spray on even porosity product. Then I would’ve gone in using very thin slices and done baby lights- not all over lightener. Because just like you said- you don’t know what a clients hair will do. You do need to get to know them. And you just don’t want to go crazy on round one. Olaplex is fine- I always use a bond multiplier. I really like some of the newer products like base breaker (joico) and also pulp riot clean slate is amazing for this process of removing color. Strand tests during color correction aren’t a bad idea. Especially if you’re going to invest six hours in a job. The uneven tones were due to years of crappy dye jobs and bad chemicals that weren’t applied professionally or evenly so there were different levels of staining. Box dye actually directly stains the hair - chemically completely different from a Demi permanent that adds molecules which can later be stripped or faded away with time much more easily. I tend to stick to Demi permanent unless someone is just die hard dark and has high percentage non pigmented hair/grey. Sorry- I know this is all over the place- but I also think a more even technique during application should’ve been the main focus- after removal of the box dye with one of the aforementioned things. Like a fine slice- application - I wouldn’t have jumped right in and bleached someone up to a 9-10 to tone them down to a 6. That’s a thing that should just kind of never be done - ever. You can use a gentle 20v formulation and fine slice/weave all over - not over processing - then tone with your 6. Next time repeat and aim for hair that wasn’t touched before. Redken shades is forgiving yes- but never would I use 3 neutral based toners on top of one another without adding some warmth because blonde goes green really quickly. The toner formulation was advantageous but not really executed in a way that made sense from a chemical standpoint. When we remove all tones from the hair- and we are left with a perfect pale yellow- then we only need that violet or blue violet depending on how ashy or platinum you want to go. Neutral should be used to counteract red tones. Three neutral toners combined with blue-not that it’s a no. But it wasn’t the best for what you needed to tone out of her hair. Also- using color or even toner on the hair when it’s wet- that’s something that will really improve your end evenness in tones and color when you start drying the hair before you tone and or glaze. Is it necessary? Not always. But usually- the vast majority of the time- it’s going to make a big difference. I’m a perfectionist. So I don’t do shit half way. If I’m here for a six hour job- what’s another 25 minutes to shampoo and dry again? I’m going to earn every penny of my clients hard earned dollars. The only clients I’ve had that end up truly disappointed are because they did not understand color theory- they didn’t understand the limitations of their hair. And they will find out when they go elsewhere and are overpromised- then overprocessed and underdelivered. I think with a few changes and formulation /technique improvements all three of those sessions could’ve been a knock out. But hey- is it awful? What actually matters is what your client liked. And she likes you and her hair. Nobody is perfect and hell yes we all make mistakes and it’s a learning process. But we gotta do our best to realize when we need to go back to the drawing board and consult with people who are better than you. Trust me no matter how good I am- no matter how good you are- there’s ALWAYS someone out there better than us. More experienced. More knowledgeable. But I agree- fuck negativity. Nobody wants to listen to advice from a mean spirited hater. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Do you feel me?! Yaaass. I’ve learned plenty of cool new things from you and I’ve only seen a handful of your videos. Keep your spirits up and energy up and be the happy person that you are. Do good for others and it will always come back to bless you- as I’m sure that you know. And at the end of the day- comments make you cash money. Good or bad! Cha Ching!!!!

I watched all three of your transformation sessions and I have to say the first session from black to medium blond was the best what you have done for your client. Although the back of your client's head looked pretty bad - kinda greenish - not cool at all, too much mixing of different toners perhaps?. Anyway, she looked much prettier after the first session with her long hair and brownish colour. Now, you made her look older and not natural with the super blonde hair.
