have been watching your videos for a good while. What amazes me is how one person can salvage a boat the way you do. Obviously it take years to learn how to do this and of course having the right equipment
Thanks 908! Having the right equipment definitely makes it easier as does having years of experience, but most of these jobs aren't that complicated, so if you can logically work through them, it's pretty easy!
This is about the third video I’ve watched and this young man is like the Pro from Dover. Super knowledgeable skipper and man, if you were screwed this would be the guy you would want to show up to help you! Another nice job sir…
"The Bilge Pump Works" 😂 Also, he didn't want to tell you how to do your job and then proceeded to tell you how to do your job. So funny and you're so patient. Another great job Ken.
Bill is obviously from New York, I would guess Long Island. He is just like one of my best friends from there. That constant banter is fun for a while but it soon gets old and you learn to tune it out.
Thanks Vancity! So are a lot of the people who own the boats. They're super surprised when I text them an hour or two later telling them their boat is refloated
I hate it when customers stand there and watch every move you make and especially when they give you advice on how to do your job. I admire your patience! If it were me, I'd have probably pushed him into the canal.
Yeah man, I feel your enthusiasm as you talk about having to get, "In there"...... lol, some days are like this, huh? This "Gent" has not seen the Quint 450Racing motors running out the Miami River outlet..... some fast boats but every time I've lived around the coast there's always this "dark group" of insurance scam types who are doing all sorts of stuff. I've been offered engines & stuff from these type of deals but I always said, "No thank you" ! It'd be my luck in buying a motor cheap that it would be stolen & I'd lose my motor & my money too. Did you say there were 2,200 boats damaged & waiting for work now? And the server went down? Wow wee, lots of business. Nasty business & I hope you have the same positive outlook for all of them. peace
I had a construction company in florida. Homeowners were the worst. I even put in my contracts that if the owner or a representative of the owner stopped work for any reason other than safety work would resume only apon receipt of a $1000 cashier's check. Customer preformance clause is what we called it. I never recieved a check.
Salvage in this case does not mean totaled. Its a legal term in maritime law and in the case of Tow Boat US it means it falls outside the contracted services (Assuming they are a member for Towing). Because of the peril involved to the boat, environment and crew it is considered a Salvage. Not knowing the rates for Capt. Ken my guess is that Tow Boat and the owner agreed on a price for salvage in advance and Tow Boat US, assuming the owner has proper insurance, will bill the insurance company. This type of salvage could be as little as 100-200 per foot or up to 1/3 the value of the boat.
Jim's pricing per foot is a bit low, but other than that he's spot on except depending on who the insurance company is, we deal directly with them instead of the customer
Damn wish I was skinny and agile like that again . Time I could run 5 miles and work conttruction all day sure miss those days. Being a Marine tech I would love to do this work. The reason the trim was slow is the battery was low the trim pump didnt have enough amps from the battery
It's a boat they get wet the motor is not flooded pull it out give her a rewire and pump the fuel tank and she's good to go especially if it's a newer boat that's wood free
That boat might be a surprise; all the important electrical stuff was above the waterline; it could be with a good wash and some new cushions, it's back to useable condition. It doesn't appear it was holed or anything.
Ken, do you ever make excuses not to get in slimy water? Tell your customer you have an open cut and you don't want to get an infection. That water looked stinky and rank 😮
I haven't yet. This water wasn't actually as bad as it looked on camera. Still something I'd rather not go swimming in, but not the worst I've gotten into either way. I did a job a few weeks ago where I'm pretty sure there was sewage in the water, and I was very carful to do everything possible to not touch that water as much as possible, even with my hands

Bill is the kind of man who seems to be one I would enjoy sipping coffee or sweet tea with in the afternoon.
Bill to Neighbor, "Thanks for your Help"! , Neighbor," I Didn't do Anything"! Lol!
Love this. Ken interviewed by a New Yorker. 😂

Hahaha! Thanks Doug! At least he kept me entertained throughout this one!
Love the people who stop by to tell you how to do your job that you've done for years.
You should make Bil your regular sidekick.
I'd never get anything done then 😂
Bill was killing me
You keep getting better Ken. Nice job on video too.
Thanks Jon!
Ken
You are a very kind person. Such a great asset.
Thanks Deb!

Yep. Pretty much... Or just run the gas pump and then I can't hear anything anyway
Bill definitely a wise guy
Nice work Cap. Amazed how you raise these boats...
Thanks Vancity! So are a lot of the people who own the boats. They're super surprised when I text them an hour or two later telling them their boat is refloated
OMG..you have the patience of a Saint........he needs to go take a nap....
Lol 😂
I would bet he did after all that excitement!
I hate it when customers stand there and watch every move you make and especially when they give you advice on how to do your job. I admire your patience! If it were me, I'd have probably pushed him into the canal.
Lol 😂 Thanks Ross!
Great job!!!
Thanks Jay!
#31:01 Looks like you caught a fish! (left front side of the boat)
Bill is 85!? He's doin good!
I wish the old timer would go back inside to his TV dinner. Let the man do his job

I DONT THINK YOU WOULD HAVE GOT THAT OUT WITHOUT THAT OLD GUY TELLING YOU WHAT TO DO! LOL
Lmao 🤣

Hi Ken, great videos, I’m a seatow captain in Charlotte harbor so what better to do on my days off than watch salvage and tow videos 😊
@@rolfie11 lol 😂Thanks capt!
So you work for my old bosses brother. Has captain Charlie "Chaz" started working for y'all down there yet?
@@CaptKenO Yes, Mike Degenaro is my boss and Charlie is working here. I just got back after taking summer off to flip houses in Michigan.
Why would this get salvaged? Is it the cost of cleanup or can there be other damage like wiring that exceeds the cost of the boat?

@@jimruder9133 Ah ok, makes more sense now. Thanks for the reply Jim!
That bilge pump did a great job in such a short time 👍
Jim's pricing per foot is a bit low, but other than that he's spot on except depending on who the insurance company is, we deal directly with them instead of the customer
Well put Jim!

This one would probably be fine, but I would bet the insurance company will total it anyway
👍
ANOTHER excellent episode Cap'n. Your Sunday posts make my week!
Thanks Del! I'm glad you look forward to my videos! 😁
Initially I thought it was “Roger Dangerfield” ( hey go figure ) 😅
Yeah, that guy is a character… Good man though…nice boat as well …long day w that guy ….
That boat might be a surprise; all the important electrical stuff was above the waterline; it could be with a good wash and some new cushions, it's back to useable condition. It doesn't appear it was holed or anything.
Maybe, but I'd guess insurance will total it anyway
Are there alligators you have to watch for?
No
Generally not. They don't like the salt water, but I have seen a few swimming around in the slightly more brackish water before
Did you get to salvage it again after Milton?
I don't know what happened to it after Milton, but my guess is it probably sunk again...🤦
May be should have got a bigger pump.
Why? The big pump quickly ran out of water to pump
Ken, do you ever make excuses not to get in slimy water? Tell your customer you have an open cut and you don't want to get an infection. That water looked stinky and rank 😮

See buddy I'm not the only one who thinks you have a cool job. Lol
I bet Bill "knows a guy"
i couldnt have delt with that old farts non stop yammering about everything
Boat full of water, no fun. Boat on the water, could be a lot fun. Just sayin
Boat on water is lots of fun and definitely better than boat full of water!
